I am sending this to India to my parents, who always receive paper mails for me and they always have to read them for me. So this scanner would help them just scan it and send the paper mail in email format :D. My most important criteria was that it should work on Indian voltage. But wow, this does not require a power plug at all. This scanner is happy with all the power it can fetch thru the USB connection. And then the Z-lid is also helpful if you wish to scan medium sized books. Its very lightweight. I reduced one star out of 5 star rating because the construction is little cheap or delicate and could have been a bit more sturdy and robust, but its OK for me. I am anyway not going to use it as a portable device. And for the bucks I spent, I should not be asking for more. The color quality is nice for this type and family of scanners. I also wish it could support at least legal size paper, but even that's ok. I can scan the big papers in parts and join all those parts easily with Photoshop's panorama (merge) function. So, overall I am pretty satisfied with the scanner.
Pros: USB powered, Very lightweight, Z-Lid, good picture quality for price
Cons: Delicate construction, should have supported legal size paper.

I intend to use the CanoScan to scan photos and text documents. On my few trial runs, it has worked as I imagined. Not the fastest but you get what you pay for. I'd recommend this for anyone on a budget.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE 100 Flatbed Scanner:
This is a fantastic scanner that takes up minimal space and is very user friendly. It was a simple set-up and has minimal cords. The USB connects to your computer or laptop and also serves as the power source, so you don't need to find an extra outlet for it. I could not be happier with this scanner.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE 100 Flatbed Scanner:
I love that it doesn't require a large power adapter to run it. Instead it's powered by the USB drive. One single cord. It't not as portable as a laptop but it's not a huge burden to bring with you.
Over all, it works great. I'm not in love with the included software but it does the job.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE 100 Flatbed Scanner:
I had to upgrade to this scanner so it worked with Windows 7. I am very pleased - very low price, and does everything I need, and more. I use it mainly for scanning documents, not photos. Quality is excellent, and there are numerous settings to ensure that whether you are scanning a newspaper, magazine, or other, the text comes out clear. Very easy to use as well, and has various image enhancers within the software. Great value!

The scanner is portable, lightweight, and only use one cable. The bad part is the speed because could be faster, and the software is not great.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE 100 Flatbed Scanner:
As a teacher in a city where the education budget has been slashed, I've found that having a scanner has become a necessity in order to compensate for the cuts. I have no photocopying budget, so the scanner helps me get materials to students, and it's a vital tool for me to help students who can't afford all of the materials. This scanner is extremely easy to use and set up, and it's pretty fast for a small personal scanner. The image quality is super, even for tiny text. I feel like I got a whole lot of scanner for a relatively small amount of money.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE 100 Flatbed Scanner:
I am a graphic artist who works in web design (rarely in print) so for my needs this is the perfect scanner -- inexpensive, fast, good color and resolution. Like the LiDE80, the USB provides the power which is a huge convenience since it doesn't have to be plugged into the wall. Super portable/convenient!
Only downside of the scanner itself is the plastic body. It feels much cheaper/flimsier than the LiDE80 which I previously owned and was a lot sturdier.
Minus a star for the software. There is no plug-in for Photoshop (like there was on the LiDE80 with the old Adobe versions), and the Canon software is built to be dummy-proof which actually creates a heck of a lot more steps for someone like myself who just wants to scan to a file -- it takes many clicks to get to the actual scanner driver interface, and once you scan, there is a whole "Browser" for your scanned files that is exceedingly annoying to use.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE 100 Flatbed Scanner:
Not the best for scanning watercolor paintings, but it's a powerful little scanner. I scanned a drawing I had done on the back of my notes and it picked up the writing on the other side of the paper!
It is also very lightweight and quiet compared to the huge old scanner I replaced with this one.
The software that comes with it is a bit annoying to me, but I can deal with it.

I use this all the time. It is small and can be taken with a laptop anywhere.
It doesn't have a power supply which is also great, no extra cables.
I don't use it for photos I have another scanner for them, but I probaly could use this one too.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE 100 Flatbed Scanner:
This scanner is nothing fancy. It gets the job done, although it does scan quite slowly. I replaced my 10 year old Epson Perfection that failed with this & I like this one a little better because it is somewhat smaller, however no huge improvement over the old Epson. Software is acceptable not great.

Comments about Canon CanoScan LiDE 100 Flatbed Scanner:
I purchased this scanner to replace an older model because it was not compatible with Windows 7. The incompatibility issue is not the fault of this unit, so it did not influence my rating.
I do a lot of research, and having a scanner that does not have to have a power supply is great. It scans quickly and with good quality. I had no problem installing it, and it readily interfaced with Paint Shop Pro X2. I would recommend this scanner to anyone who uses a laptop for research and needs to copy photos and documents at remote locations.
