LaCie 320GB Rugged Triple Interface Portable Hard Drive
The 320GB Rugged Triple Interface Portable Hard Drive from LaCie allows you to take your data on the road and off-road. It features a durable, rubberized bumper and scratch-proof exterior. Built to military specifications, you can be sure that the drive is protected from damage that can occur during daily use.
The drive connects to your computer via USB 2.0, FireWire-400, or FireWire-800. Backup software for Mac and Windows is included, as well as 1 year of access to LaCie's online service.

I am invovlved in a group project using Final Cut Pro. I was easily able to transfer all my files that were scattered over a number of drives onto this one and take my project with me on the drive to show on someone elses Final Cut system. Only one wire--runs on the computer's power source and feels safer to be carting around. No complaints

I purchased the hard drive to use with my laptop, and carry the photo and video footage I shoot. It has to travel with me everywhere. The high speed version (7200 rpm ) is good for interactive work, avoiding loading and unloading images. Works wonderful so far. Nice to have so many connection options (USB2, Firewire 400 and 800) Only complaint is that the wires are so short it is hard to connect to the desktop.

I use LaCie Rugged drives for troubleshooting and maintenance. This one in particular ended up with a maintenance partition and three (OS X 10.4, 10.5 & 10.6) OS installer partitions. I'm constantly moving the drive to connect it to different machines; sometimes it gets knocked off a shelf or dropped, which is not a problem for this model. Opening the case voids the warranty, but when I opened an out-of warranty Rugged I saw that the drive is also cushioned inside in addition to the rubber outer skin. I wish they could find a way to add a second FireWire 800 port or, barring that, an eSATA port to the same style of drive; those are the only improvement I can think of.

I didn't expect nothing less from LaCie. Buy it if you need an affordable, portable, fast and reliable drive. Only one thing made me give it 4 starts - it has to be more durable for people on the go. I don't think a rubber bumper is a great protection.

I use this for the storage of professional video files, taken from more expensive data cards in the field.
These drives are well built, reasonably priced, and have a combination of types of connections to get in and out i.e. Firewire 400 and 800 as well as USB II.
I also like that it is available in 7200 RPM- as well as in several sizes, that I can choose depending on the size of the job.
Nothing bad to say so far- they work very well for field video applications.

The drive Is awesome, and really seems like it could take a beating. I really enjoy everthing about it. The only flaw, which some may see as a pro is that the drive makes you format a percentage of the drive towards mac or windows. When did this I was unsure of what to do because I use both pc and mac. I formatted all 320gb to mac, but I sometime regret not putting 5 or 10 gb towards pc to use for quickly moving files.
