The Tamrac Velocity 10x Pro Sling Pack (Black) is designed to carry and protect 1-2 pro-sized digital SLR camera bodies with lenses attached, additional lenses, a flash and accessories. The bag is made from 600 denier PolyTek exterior with a thick, closed-cell foam lining. The bag is versatile so it can be carried like a backpack, but can also be easily accessed by sliding the pack around to the front. The zippered Quick Flip Top opens away from the body for fast and convenient access to camera gear.

The Velocity 10x front pocket has organizer pockets inside to keep a mobile phone, PDA or photo accessories within easy reach. It also has a Memory & Battery Management System that uses red flags to identify available memory cards from ones that are used up. A pocket inside the lid stores filters and lens caps. Use the attachment slots of the M.A.S. (Modular Accessory System) to customize the sling pack. There is a carry handle, a padded sling strap and a Tuck-A-Way waist belt that comfortably distributes the weight, but need not be removed to quickly access photo equipment.

    Pro's:

Unique Design - tried many slings but this one stands out because the top opens away from your body and the wide-mouth gives you full access to all your gear while protecting it from spilling out or being stolen.

Fits Comfortably - Can be slung across one shoulder to carry it, or carried as intended across your back. Handle on top is very useful.

Large Compartments - Holds my "kit" consisting of Nikon D3, 70-200mm lens, 14-24mm lens, 24-70mm lens, and SB900 Speedlight. Any of the lenses can remain attached to the camera body. Front pocket accommodates remote control, blower, lens cloth, keys, wallet, etc.

    Cons:

Small zipper - The zipper on the main compartment should be beefier. Although it open smoothly, it isn't as "high-quality" as the rest of the bag.

Carry Handle is Nylon - Should have a beefy rubber carrying handle.

Construction is Value not Premium - Clearly this case is a value for the price but my individual preference would be to beef-up construction by adding more padding (I've inserted other pads at bottom of bag), thickening the denier of the nylon, and addressing the 2 points above.

    Bottom-line:

Despite my criticisms, I really really like this bag and would buy it again. I believe it is a great value for the price. I would however, be willing to pay more if the above suggested improvements were made. This may not be Tamrac's marketing approach as they seem to appeal to the mass market in the value-stream.

As a photojournalist, I need a bag that allows me to carry multiple bodies and lenses while still providing quick access. This bag fails on both counts.
The Tamrac diagrams that show how two bodies can fit inside with several lenses are completely deceptive. The bag looks big, but it's deceptively small on the inside. Inside, the bags dividers are flimsy and don't support the weight of the camera body. The bottom of the bag is curved, causing the contents to slide to the center. I had to remove one of the center dividers to fit my lenses. All I wanted to carry was a body with lens attached, two lenses, a flash, and either a netbook or another body. They're not even close to fitting as shown in the advertising.

The video that shows a photographer in action with his sling bag is deceptive as well. To get the bag to swing around to your hip requires you to wear the bag uncomfortably lower on your back than is shown in the video. Coupled with the poor design of the strap, this will lead to back problems.

The bag itself is sturdy and well-made, but it better be for this price. I'm also surprised there aren't more auxiliary compartments as with other bags. This essentially has a main storage area, an area for filters and lens caps in the flap, and one outside storage area big enough for media and slim objects, but not for something bigger like a battery charger.

As far as access, the zipper for the top is hard to get hold of in a hurry.

All in all, this is not much storage for a lot of money. I like my other Tamrac bag, but this is a huge disappointment.

Comments about Tamrac 5770 Velocity10x Pro Sling Bag:

GREAT BAG!! I bought the 10x and the 8x. I use the 10x almost exclusively to carry two cameras, a medium tele, wide angle, and converter. I shoot sports and nature and this bag fits the bill for both. The sling design allows you to strap UP for the hike to the field and then DOWN to the hip to easily access the gear. I shoot a tele on a monopod with the 2nd camera and wide angle ready to go in the bag for when the sports action comes close.
For how I use this bag, it's perfect. My only warning to others is the one strap design can be painful when it's heavily loaded and on longer hikes. The waist strap helps a great deal to distribute the weight for longer hikes, but is sort of a pain to put away once on site. I get compliments on this bag all the time on it's design.
I also bought the 8x for those times when I simply want a single camera/lens with some accessories. The 8x also works great to store EXTRA equipment when also using the 10x.
In certain situations I've actually had both the 10x and 8x on each a hip when shooting with 3 camera/lens combinations.

Comments about Tamrac 5770 Velocity10x Pro Sling Bag:

Although I only have one SLR body camera, two standard lens, a 2x converter and a 100-400 canon telezoom, I chose the bigger bag in this model in order to have additional room for personal accesories like a sunblock, a t-shirt , a cap, granola bars, etc. for one-day trip photography. I am extremely satisfied with this purchase. I can walk one full without major fatigue. The strong and comfortable waist-belt helps a lot in order to reduce the pressure on your shoulders, no matter if you have a big belly. For lack of time, usually I do not use to write all reviews for my online purchases, but I always spent lot of time reading what other costumers write before a final decision. You can use this bag for non-photo related travels. One more thing, this bag is very discret photo-accesory in order to avoid be seen carryng photo equipment specially in areas/countries with high criminality. It seems that the quality is high. Let's see what happen after one year of use. I got it only 2 weeks ago.

I put 2 of my DSLR's in the bag with lenses on (a wide angle and a 70-300 zoom) along with extra lenses for both, filters, cleaner, release forms, etc.....everything I could possibly need on an assignment. I don't have to think about the extras; I just grab the bag and go! It's a little heavy but that's not the bag's fault!! It's strong, well built and convenient for my work. Thanks Tamrac!! Thanks B&H!

I am a pro nature/outdoor photographer. This bag allows me the freedom to move along with the comfort to carry the gear that I need. My only nit is that it would seem beneficial to have a more padded strap. The one supplied tends to get painful after wearing it for awhile.

bought this as a surprise gift for my husband from our brand new baby. my husband is an amateur phhotographer but he loves photographing and has complained that his old bag was not large enough for all his equipment. He says the new bag is Very spacious providing ample room for a variety of equipment. He also loves the convenience of the sling. Since he is 6'4, the large bag fits his body perfectly although I can see it may be big for a smaller frame.

I carry one linhof 617sIII with 180mm lens, five 72mm filters, one trip cable, one changing bag (large), one light meter (spot), film (120). Ripped out all the compartment dividers, and used other stuff to protect the camera. Easy access to inside compartment, and also easy access to zippered front pocket. Sling the whole thing over your shoulder and you go AND, when it sets down on the ground, its top is up. Ding! No, I don't wear it around my neck like the model does in the picture, but then, he's a model and I'm the real deal. I would like the whole bag in black, including the name brand patch.

When this equipment is not in this bag, it all goes into a big Pelican watertightcrushproofheavywithwheels case. No fooling around.

The inside pocket holds all of my filters in their cases, the front pocket holds all my CF Cards and battery charger plus extra batteries. The look is sleek and not bulky like some backpacks. The only con that I have is when I am loaded down with my camera and L lenses it can get pretty heavy on just one shoulder, but all in all this is the bag that I have been looking for for a long time....

I do a lot of on the run photography in my travels and find the Velocity10x Sling Bag a great way to protect and have easy access to my Nikon D300S with the Nikkor 70-200 f/2.8 lens. I had been using the Velocity 8x for a long time with the Nikon d40dx and 300mm lens and found it to be a very functional combination. Upgrading to the D300S and a much more robust lens made the 8x bag too cramped. The Velocity 10x Sling Bag is a great product and much more functional than the old back pack bag I use to carry.

Comments about Tamrac 5770 Velocity10x Pro Sling Bag:

I tried several sling type bags before deciding on this one. I would have preferred one a little smaller but the smaller ones didn't accommodate my 70-200mm 2.8 lens. This bag will make it easier to change lens, etc while touring sights in Europe. It allows you to have both hands free and there is room for additional cameras or camcorders. I also like that you can carry it as a shoulder bag if needed.

I found the Kata bags shape awkward to carry.

I am very happy with this bag. I wanted something that allowed easy access to my gear while shooting outdoors. I shoot wedddings and conservation photos and easy access for both is a must! I'm happy to be able to fit two pro bodies in the bag and my beast of a 70-200 2.8 lens on the camera. I haven't completely loaded it up yet, so I'm wondering what the weight will be like with more of a load and the sling strap. I love the pockets - the front pouch is big enough to hold my water bottle and a sandwich!

Comments about Tamrac 5770 Velocity10x Pro Sling Bag:

I bought this bag in preparation for an overseas vacation. I was looking for something more comfortable and flexible than a traditional camera bag; and be able to carry a small netbook pc. It did all of that for me, so I have no major complaints; but a few criticisims.

The bag is large, although I don't think that the rated 2 pro size DSLR rating is realistic. I was using my D300 (with battery grip); while I could have squeezed my D100 backup body in without a lens just to have a backup camera, I chose not to, in order to recuce weight.

Here is what I packed in this bag:
                          - D300 w/battery grip; usually with 28-105 f/2.8 mounted.
                          - 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 lens
                          - 14mm f/2.8 lens
                          - 50mm f/1.4 lens
                          - medium size JOBY gorrilapod with head
                          - Canon G7 pocket camera
                          - Metz 54MZ-4 strobe
                          - Gateway 10.2" netbook pc
                          - Blackberry cell phone
                          - I-pod and headphones

The case held it all, but it got quite heavy. The shoulder strap needs better padding, and the padding cut out just where I started to need it unless you wear it real high or don't sling it across from one side or the other.

I would like to see the internal dividers & pads be able to turn vertical and still velcro in place to be able to better compartmentalize for lenses etc. The main zipper should be a double zip as others have noted.

My biggest complaint however is with the shoulder strap. the padding section ends just where you start to need it, and after the end of the 2nd say of a walking tour my right shoulder was killing me. I ended up shortening the strap signficantly and just carrying teh bag over one shoulder, but for securtiy and safety I would prefer more padding and carry the strap on the opposte side as the bag. If I keep the bag I'll have to fix this.

For anyone who has dragged a regular camera bag around on a tour or hike can appreciate the convenience of this bag. Room enough for all my needs--at least two other lenses; sometimes carry extra camera body. I particularly like this bag because my camera (a Mark III) is no fly-weight to be hanging around my neck for hours at a time. The shoulder design saves me from considerable discomfort. Being able to swing the bag around and pull out my camera as needed is great.

Comments about Tamrac 5770 Velocity10x Pro Sling Bag:

I had an earlier Velocity which I replaced long ago for two reasons: the flap opening toward me, and the strap being too thin in places that it became uncomfortable.

Now I use different bags for different reason and I was looking for something to carry My D700 with battery grip + the 70-200 2.8 or sigma 150-500 attached to the camera - something not many bags will do. It looked much improved from my early version.

This bag fits everything pretty well. It boasts the ability to carry 2 slr's with grips - I imagine that would be possible but a very tight fit. With one slr, it fits all my gear well and it seems made study enough to carry it all.

When the bag is in backpack position, it is really only comfortable when pulled high up onto the back, and being a sling, it isn't that easy to keep it there. The waist strap helps but it still tends to ride down.

When I pull it around to my side to access it, it gets a little uncomfortable. First, it's hard for me to pull the buckle high enough to let the bag hang down to my waist. Second, the unpadded part of the strap, while thicker than previous versions, is still not wide enough not to dig in. They either need to figure out a way to make the strap wider, or pad it all the way around.

Everyone is different, so this bag might be more comfortable for others than for me. It's still a good bag and I like the design in general, they mostly just need to improve the shoulder strap a bit.

This is my second Velocity bag, I have a 9X also.
The design of these bags is first rate as is the build quality. They are FAST, QUICK AND EASY to use. Riding a bike with the 9x is tricky because the bag will slide around on you. The 10x has a waist band you can use to prevent that. Tamrac also has a 5 yr warranty.
My advice would be to simply buy the bag, you will wonder why you waited so long. I would also advise getting the next bigger bag than you think you need, give yourself the luxury of room.

Comments about Tamrac 5770 Velocity10x Pro Sling Bag:

                                    Basically I love this bag.
Whether it's nature, landscape, or cityscape, I'm basically a walk'n shoot guy, and the ability to take my camera out in seconds is a essential part of my shooting.
The camera compartment section is really excellent. It allows me to carry my Canon 5DII with a 24-70mm F2.8 and a Olympus with a 50-200mm zoom both with the hood attached in the shooting position (not reversed!).
This is so essential because a reversed large hood on a zoom lens is one of the worst things that can happen in a immediate-shoot situation. Also, another good thing about having the lens hood on is that you don't have to use the lens cap, which is another obstacle in a immediate shoot situation. The hood prevents the lens from ever touching the bottom or the sides of the bag.
No other bag can do this, and this bag has become a indispensable part of my shooting.
The bag is well constructed, and no worries here.
                                    Now for the cons:
The sling design is far from comfortable. The padded part of the sling should be at least 5 inches longer, and the unpadded part of the strap should be much wider.
I have taken 3-4 hour treks with two cameras and several lenses in this bag, and I can take the shoulder strain, but it's not something I look forward to. It's much comfortable when you have the bag on one shoulder or sling the bag in front of you.
I would rather prefer a backpack type strap or a shoulder bag with wide padded shoulder strap with this bag.
A shoulder bag worn diagonally is much more easy to sling in front of you when needed then this sling design.
Also, the top lid zipper is so hard to find. It's like it is camouflaged. Please give it a vivid color or a large ring type handle so you can pull open with a single finger.
The front pocket is not well designed for a two-camera bag. I would like to see at least 4 CF card pockets and 2 battery pockets. Currently I have to put the battery in the cell phone pocket and they are too deep for batteries.
