The (Black) 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack from Tamrac is a 600 denier PolyTek backpack with thick, closed-cell foam lining for shock and vibration protection. The Dual Access System allows fast access to the equipment through a side door; when the pack is worn over one shoulder or through the front panel when the pack is removed. For weather protection, the side door is equipped with a water-resistant zipper while the front panel has a weather flap.
The 3385 has a foam padded bottom photo compartment that holds and protects a digital SLR camera with a grip and lens attached (including most 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lenses), 2-3 additional lenses and accessories. The large top compartment can hold personal items, such as a lunch or a light jacket. There is also a separate, foam-padded laptop compartment that holds most 17" screen laptops. The side door accessory pockets hold memory cards and lens caps, and there is an elasticized mesh side pocket that provides convenient access to a water bottle. The backpack is carried by an EasyGrip padded carrying handle and a comfortable, foam-padded, contoured harness that spreads the weight of the camera gear across the shoulders.

As you can imagine it got heavy but it balanced the load well. It was easier to deal with when I stashed the non-essentials (laptop, flash, etc) in my hotel safe. It would have been nice to have the litle chest strap but it sill worked out ok.
In general the side flap was great, it made it very easy to get my camera in and out very quickly and I didn't have to give up the extra storage space. I had no problem even with the huge 29-300mm lens. The only drawback was that the zippers get very difficult to open and close if they get cold. It was about -5 (c) in Beijing and it took quite a bit of effort to open the side flap. The problem was the rubber they had embedded into the zipper (I assume it is to help keep out raid)
The only other thing I didn't like about it was the only option it had for carrying a mono pod. I was able to strap it to the bottom in a horizontal position. This was fine when I was walking around in wide open spaces but I ran into problems on the crowded subways. Probably won't be a problem for most people.

I've had the bag for less than an hour.
1. The laptop zipper within 10 minutes was already splitting apart, and won't stay zipped. All that I put in was a 14" gateway laptop.
2. Right after loading the bag for my trip, I put it on to get a feel. All of the weight is pushing right in on the front of the shoulders. I've backpacked all of my life, and this was the most uncomfortable back I've had on.
3. No waist belt support. This was a huge miss on my part. I should have checked for that. Fact is there isn't any waist support and the load is not at all properly balanced. I'll be 7 days, non stop hiking and working in Haiti. That won't do.
4. Supposed to fit a dslr camera. Okay. Somewhat true. My Mark III fits, but I have to practically force it. The hotshoe for the flash on top of the camera catches every time. And with the 5D Mark II, forget having the battery pack. Also, I have a Rapid Strap that screws into the bottom of the camera. Nope, gotta take that off. And no lense hoods. There's just not room. Bottom line. Nope. Not the right bag, and it's heading back tomorrow.

Fits all my gear and has plenty of room up top for extras. I use the laptop compartment for my collapsible reflectors. Just fits under the airline size limits for carry-on luggage, which is a plus.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):
I like the sturdiness of the pack and how well it rests on my back. I don't feel any pressure on the shoulders and the weight is distributed evenly on my back. It is too heavy however, and the top compartment is a bit small. Access to camera equipment is excellent.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):
Backpack is well-designed, but could use more organizing webs/pockets in the upper part of the pack. No place for a tripod without purchasing an additional strap.
Quite heavy when fully loaded with laptop and camera equipment, and larger than competitive backpacks.
Could do with a sternum strap due to its size and weight, I had to add one from an external supplier.
If I had to do this over, I would not purchase this pack, but rather would purchase the Click Elite.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):
With a little work, I'm able to fit a gripped 7D with attached 70-200 2.8 IS w/hood, 17-55 2.8 w/o hood, 50 1.4 w/hood, 28 1.8 w/hood, 2 PW Flex/1 PW Mini and RStrap in the bottom storage section. A 430 and 580 flash (in their cases), as well as the 17-55 hood goes in the top section. Extra CF cards and other misc stuff fit in all the small pockets. I put an iPad and clipboard in the laptop compartment. That's all I need to carry to a shoot other than the light stands and tripod that go in another bag.
I took this bag on a recent famliy vacation. Most of the camera gear was parred down to make room for baby stuff. The pack became uncomfortable after about 3 hours of carrying it around. I'm sure a chest and waist belt would've helped.
Overall, I like the bag for my type of shooting assignments where I just need to get the gear from my car to a location close by. But I wouldn't recommend it for someone that needs to constantly carry heavy gear for a long time.

Primarily used for travel I tried another brand that claimed to be designed for travel and sent it back. I settled with the Speed Pack 85 because this Photo/Laptop Backpack accommodates my 17" MacBook Pro, D90 w/battery grip and 3 lenses with plenty of extra room for peripheral equipment.

The zipper on the side pocket pulled off the track after less than year of occasional use. I sent it Tamrac for a warranty claim. It has been 3 weeks and despite their assurances to the contrary, it has not reappeared. I liked the bag but feel that this will be my first and last Tamrac product.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):
provides a nice balance of protected space to store photo gear with separate compartments for laptop and "other stuff".
Well thought out, flexible design.
While the construction quality is good, the materials are not the strongest (otherwise I would have given this a #5 rating). Also was surprised to see that there was no "safety stop" on the backstrap -- ie, if you let it out to the maximum length, then while in use, the strap could simple come undone (not a good idea for the sake of your gear).

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):
I plan on using this product for transporting gear from place to place now that I have received it. It is great that it can carry a laptop too. Plenty of storage for cameras and lenses, but not too great for accessories like filters and cards. The interior holds a pro camera with large lens attached but is then more awkward to use with a pro camera and smaller lens. The waterproof zippers are a nice feature, but make the photo compartment harder to open when you want to get to the camera. With this backpacks size I would have expected a chest strap and maybe a hip strap for stability. Both would be very useful for a bag this size. I probably will not carry this into the field because of its size and lack of stability straps. It is great for airplane travel.

This bad boy is big. Really really big. I think I found Jimmy Hoffa hiding in this bag its so big..
But seriously I have a Nikon D7000, Nikon 24-70 mm F 2.8 AF VR, Nikon 70-200 mm F 2.8 AF VR and Nikon 10.5 mm F 2.8 all in this bag along with 2 SB 600 flashes, all of the manuals and cables, charger and spare batteries and there is even some room left over!!
The straps are comfortable and well designed making it easy to carry around even with all of this gear in it.
The zippers are covered to keep rain and snow out and the construction quality is first rate.
A great bag for lots of gear!

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):
Great pack, very functional and well constructed. But it is also very big; a little too big for my day to day needs. [...]the smaller version which is more suited for my needs. This is a great pack if you need that much room. It was a little tight getting a Canon T1i with a battery grip in the side opening. It fits but requires some help getting the hot shoe past the opening. My only suggestion for both sizes of this pack is that Tamrac should add a detachable, padded belt to shift some of the weight to the hips. This is probably more important with this pack than it's smaller brother. Otherwise it's comfortable and well built.

I am a mom and amateur photographer and this bag completely fits my needs.
I can carry my 7D, 50mm, 100mm and 70-200mm plus the little stuff in the bottom compartment.
I carry diapers, wipes, sweaters, wallet, keys, etc. in the top.
Side water bottle pocket is large enough to fit a pack of wipes and a water bottle and is adjustable to fit just a sippy cup.
All this and the bag is still not bulky.
I LOVE the side access- it's easy access allows me to have the camera right there for quick shots without having to carry it around my neck and risk the inevitable bangs and bumps that come with keeping up with kids.

Comments about Tamrac 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):
I've had this pack for four months and on numerous airline trips.
Shoulder straps nicely cushioned, which is a real plus because this sucker is heavy when fully loaded with laptop and camera gear.
This IS a backpack. So don't expect to get more than one body with attached lens an extra lens or two with flash and misc into it. Zips have been fine contrary to some other reviews.
Getting my 50D with battery grip into and out of the pack is not easy. So if, like me, you like to leave the battery grip on at all times, you might want to do an experiment at the shop to see if it works for you. It's OK for me but if I needed quick access - forget it with the grip on.
This is a big pack. When fully loaded it does fit under the seat in front of you on the plane - barely. But it fits well in the overhead compartments - even the smaller ones if you shove it in top first. Padding seems very good.
Overall I am completely satisfied, but for my personal issue with the battery grip. My previous Tamrac lasted 20 years and several field trips abroad. I hope this lasts as long!
