I bought this camera while back in the States for the holidays. Living abroad, there are many things I see every day that stick out and I want to capture. It was about time to stop using the cheap camera on my cellphone and get a little camera I could take everywhere with me. After 3-4 weeks, I am very, very satisfied with my purchase. The camera is extremely intuitive to use (disclosure: i am not a novice with gadgets) -- I've hardly needed to look at the manual. In most situations I get great photos: the anti-shake seems to work most of the time and the pictures and colors are good to great (more on that in a minute). The start-up time and focus lag is MUCH improved from the digital point-and-shoot I bought several years ago (for almost twice the price). And it's small and light. It also has a couple features I discovered after buying it that I really like. It's been a while since I bought a digital camera, maybe this is common now, but I love the setting that allows me to see the photo I just took AND (at the same time) a zoom-in so I immediately know if the shot was in focus (on my other two digital cameras I was constantly manually zooming in, yuck). Also, it has a voice recorder in addition to the video features. One note - the camera "lies" - it noticeable enhances/brightens the colors on virtually every shot. As a snapshot camera this is usually good/pleasing to the eye, but for taking serious photos it would not always be so desired. I haven't bothered to play with the settings & modes to find out if this is always the case. But if I want to take serious shots, I'll be using my DSLR anyway; the beauty of this thing is its size and price. A couple other things I like -- the big LCD screen on the back is great, and I like that fact I can take somewhat wide-angle shots with it (at least compared to some other similar cameras). One thing negative - although I'm pretty happy with the quality of the video itself (i didn't really buy it to shoot video, afterall, so this feature is a bonus) -- if you shoot a video vertically, the software will rotate it for you when you watch it using said included software, BUT it won't let you export it rotated. Ie, you're chained to using Canon's software for viewing it, not nice if you want to upload it somewhere or share it in any other way. There probably are other solutions to this, though they may involve degrading the quality of the video. In a few reviews I read before buying it, it sounded like the battery life was an issue with this camera. I charged it right after I got it and 325 photos and a few short videos and audio recordings later it finally died yesterday. So so far so good in that department. Two things that are important to me but I have not really had much of a chance to evaluate yet -- the macro feature and its performance in low-light situations. So far they seem promising, but I can't say that for sure yet. Overall, I am amazed by this product -- it more than meets my needs as my "carry everywhere" snapshot camera, and at[$] at B&H was a steal. I was worried that I'd be sacrificing picture quality or would have to pay a lot of money, but so far, not so at all. Amazing value.

I bought this for my son who uses it at college for posting to [...] and the web. It is perfect for him, tough, large LCD screen, easy to use, fast recycle time for a P&S, great battery life, pocket-able, and not too expensive to replace if his friends drop it in their beer. The video is very good also not HD but not bad.You MUST learn to ALWAYS use the wrist strap every time you pick up this camera. My daughter dropped her 2 month old SD880 in a lake when it slipped out of her suntan lotioned hands! The strap would have saved her first SD880!

I bought this camera for a Europe cruise. It shoots just a little wider then most cameras which was helpful. The colors from my pictures seemed more brilliant than the pictures my mom and sister took with their camera of the same subject. Some pictures I cropped down to just a fourth of the original size. They still had nice picture quality. (I could take a picture of a building with my family in the picture and turn it into a shot of my family with a picture of a building in the background using Photoshop.)
I tried out other Canon camera's that were 12 mp and the quality and noise level was much better with this camera. (If you are looking for great quality pictures with a high MP, you need to shot in RAW which is offered in none compact cameras.)
This Camera doesn't do well with taking a pictures quickly after another. It does have the continues shutting mode but that doesn't help when you want to quickly compose one shot after another. I got more open eye shots and smiles of a 9 month old baby once I put her in a room with good light and turned off the flash.
The life of the battery is good for me. (I bought an extra battery for this camera. We camp for 9 days with no electricity and don't have a change to recharge a battery.)
I bought this camera to replace my Power shot SD 600. (It would video when I wanted to take a picture. My daughter is using it now.) My husband has a Canon G9 (that shots in RAW) and loves it.

The wide angle lens on this camera makes a huge difference compared to other cameras without it. Also, it's so nice to have a large LCD screen on the back for viewing pictures. The special modes (like sunset and foliage) work great. Video quality is very good. The battery seems to last forever.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH Digital Camera (Silver):
After losing my Canon A610 in a rock fissure (funny story, but not for here), I spent a fair amount of time considering a replacement. Having owned a Canon digital camera before with excellent results, and with Canons still at the top of many reviews, I was inclined to stick with the brand.
My uncertainty boiled down to size and feature set. When I bought the A610, it was partly for the full manual control option. But I found that I rarely (if ever) used the manual due to canon's excellent automatic settings, and I found the camera to be a bit bulky and uncomfortable in the pocket. So for this purchase, I focused on the pocket sized sub-compact category, but I didn't make full manual a mandatory requirement.
The pocket size of the SD880 is excellent, and I therefore find that I carry the camera a lot more (and use it more). I also find that the controls are significantly more accessible and easier to use than my A610. The program setting is excellent, easy to use, and so I use it more. Oddly enough, I find that since the controls are so easy to use, I wish now that it had the full manual. And frankly, I'm not sure why it doesn't.
I haven't had a chance to test the durabilty, though I splurged for the 2 year service contract. Hopefully I won't have any need for it, and I'll never find out how durable the camera really is...
4-1/2 stars (but I'll give it five, since no halves)

After doing a BUNCH of research and talking to lots of folks, I decided on the PowerShot SD880. It had been getting great reviews on [@] etc. Plus I talked to people who said it functions better that the newer model.I've only ever had Kodak cameras prior to this one, and now that I have a Cannon, I will NEVER go back to anything else. This camera is beyond amazing. SO easy to use, amazing features (I love the color accent feature), starts up really fast, and the list goes on. I cannot say enough good things about this camera!I just took it on vacation to Mexico and had a blast with in. One thing to note - make sure you have a backup memory card if you use the one they include with the camera. The one included is only 32MB, so good for like 15 shots only. I made the mistake of not checking and had to buy a new memory card while in Mexico. The battery also seems way better than any camera I've had before. It lasted my entire 5 day vacation without a single charge! It's a bit hard to figure out the controls at first (how to select shooting modes, making adjustments, etc), but once you get used to them it's okay. I did have to read the manual to figure it out. You probably couldn't figure out the camera by intuition alone.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH Digital Camera (Silver):
I'm a digital SLR user that needed a small camera for times when I don't want the bulk of my EOS. I've had several Canon point and shoots and this one is the by far the best.
High points:
1. Quality photos. I've printed a few already, and they look very good. I always marvel at cameras with really cool form factors, but average (or worse) image quality. This may not be the smallest camera, or the slickest, but it takes good photos.
2. Ease of use/setup. Point and shoots are for people looking for a small camera that gets the job done. The setup is simple, the menus are easy to understand and the large screen is easy to view.
3. Flexibility/features. The good thing about this model is that it offers a variety of styles of shooting, which does allow for some creativity for those who like to take photos that aren't just for their Facebook page.
4. Reshoot times, start up times. These are excellent. Not much to say, but if you want to capture a moment, milliseconds count and this camera gives you some extra ones.
Low Points:
1. The strap doesn't have a "tightener" that keeps it on your wrist. All my other point and shoots have it.
2. Price. Although I believe this camera has better images than others, if you are just looking to take snapshots of friends (especially if they are mostly in bars at night...we know who you are!!!), then you can get a smaller, trendier and cheaper camera from another manufacturer. I'm not saying this camera is a bad value, but there is no reason to buy this one if you are just taking snapshots.
OVERALL:
Another solid hit for Canon.

I use a Canon 40D, so when my wife asked for a camera I thought of getting her a DSLR (or passing her our older Rebel XT). Well, she wanted something more compact that she could "throw in her purse" and the 40D is not that. We picked the Canon from other reviews and, overall, it is a good camera. There is some shutter lag making it more difficult to catch our 3 year old son in motion. The picture quality is no where near the DSLR's but neither is the price. The controls are well laid out, and the buttons are relatively easy to figure out. It does not take RAW pictures if that is important. The files size is about 4.1mb to 4.9mb. I took off a star for the shutter lag. If you have little kids or "moving targets" that you take pictures of I would recommend a DSLR. Otherwise this is a good "throw in the purse" camera.

This is one of the finest camera ive ever had/seen. My previous camera was a Casio and though i loved my casio, the canon SD880is blows its away. The pictures are so clear and crisp, the videos are fantastic, and once you get a hang of all the functions, you'll never be able to use another camera.

Bought this camera for an easy to pack camera when traveling. Just returned from a trip to Washington DC. Camera was easy to carry and store. Basically you can put it in your pants or jacket pocket with ease. Takes awesome pictures both of the sites and of the family. Closeups, low light, scenic view pictures, you name it, they all came out great. Took 300+ pictures over 5 days and the battery never needed recharging.
Does well what it advertises to do. Great camera.

I have not found anything I dislike about the camera. It has all the features I hoped for in a new camera. I was looking for a small compact camera with a large display screen. This camera was perfect! I also wanted zoom and sound while taking video recordings and this camera also does that! Finally I wanted to be able to crop, fix red eye, and change colors of my pictures to sepia or black and white right on the camera and resaving an extra copy of the altered photo. This camera did it all! I was also surprised to find an option in the scene settings where I can choose to accent one color in a photo while everything else is black and white! It looks so cool! I highly recommend this camera.
