A little dissapointed with its slightly larger size than the other SD models, but it is so minor its ok. The manual features are great although you virtually have only 2 aperature adjustments in manuel mode, but the ability to adjust the flash output, TV, etc. is great. The IS is fantastic and works great for video or stills.
The face detection is surprizingly accurate and quick. ISO could be better as there is some noise at ISO 400 and very noticeable noise at ISO 800. Wish the thumb wheel was more solid like the SD880's; it is a little fumbly.
The optical viewfinder is useless and I wish Canon had opted for a larger LCD rather than implementing this "disposable camera-like" viewfinder.
The camera does take great photos with accurrate color, accurate focus and vivid detail. The instant startup is great. Of all the compacts out there this is still my favorite because of the manual functions and IS. I see myself upgrading in a few years for a smaller design with a larger LCD and better high ISO results. Until then I am happy with this purchase

Great camera with many customizable features. Pictures are sharp for the most part and camera is fast. However, don't count on all those megapixels to improve your pictures. Use medium instead of large file size. The sensor is too small to really improve the picture past about 9 megapixel quality and noise reduction, even at low ISO's smears parts of the image. When blowing up to full large size you see both patches of relatively sharp areas and smeared areas where focus is not so good. Generally sharp in middle and soft on the edges especially at wide angle. If you want even sharpness consider a DSLR.

I use my new camera almost daily. It's easy to use, has a long battery life, takes fantastic pictures, and was reasonably priced. I'm only sorry I didn't purchase it sooner. We are off to Europe in a week and it will be an absolute joy to take pictures. I can't wait!!!!

If you're looking for a point and shoot with some sort of feel of an SLR, then this camera is perfect. Really solidly built and take superb quality pictures. The manual mode lets you set the shutter speed and apeture which is nice to play around with and there is all the functions you would expect from a camera of this price range.
Although not as slim as others, it is a feature packed camera that is very user friendly.Highly recommended.

Bought this camera a week before my trip to Europe and wow, am I happy that I did. As with other Canon's I've owned the picture is incredible. I have used some of the scene modes and they seem to offer a good amount of versatility. The program/manual mode was great for night photography. Battery life is solid as well. So far, no complaints!

This is great for a wide variety of uses. From casual candid shots to artistic masterpieces, this easily mastered camera provides excellent quality photographs. It is compact, light weight, sleek and chic. The features are phenominal. I especially like the Color Accent feature which takes a black and white shot with one accent color.

Excellent and vesatile point and shoot. Better than average low light response for this type of camera. Blows away our (former) Nikon 5100.
Very satisfied.

very nice "do it all" type camera, digital macro was surprisingly good, movie functions worked well, still photos are excellent. I wanted more than a simple point and shoot and this does it all. KRockwell doesn't like the high megapixels, but what if I want a very large poster? I would opt for a larger LCD screen eliminating the viewfinder.. I haven't used the viewfinder yet because the LCD screen is bright and easy to see.

Tough little camera. Actually drove over mine with an ATV and it didn't even have a scratch. If you sit the camera up, not on the LCD and not on the lens side, it tends to tip easily. Make the four 'feet' wider apart. Nice color, easy to use.

I bought this camera so I could take pictures while I travel. I also wanted a small camera with a manual mode so I could do more than point and shoot. I haven't learned all there is, but it's been easy working with the settings to get great pictures. Everyone that has looked at my pictures has complimented on the quality (I am not a photographer). The only cons I can think of are due to not reading the manual and trying to figure everything out by pushing buttons. I can't wait to see what this camera is capable of...!

Use it for a variety of shots. Nice size, zoom a bit cumbersome. Nice saturated color. Closeups of white flowers tend to wash out. Easy to use. Optical viewfinder only good for basic composition. Fine camera, not a perfect camera but is there one? I considered a similarly priced Lumix and may try one of those. Fine pocket camera

I’m definitely a photography novice, I take pictures of family, special events and travel and that’s about it. This camera replaces my Canon IS 500 5 megapixel camera (may it rest in peace). I utilize the basics of my new camera primarily using the auto and the self-timer feature and adjust the contrast now and then if I want to use the picture as my PC desktop picture or make an 8 X 10 print. As a true novice I find the manual fairly easy to read and comprehend as well as the camera’s function buttons and on screen icons. I do find the on/off button slightly challenging to press even with my small fingers.

I got this camera as a everyday companion to take everywhere, it works great. (My other camera shoots at 21Megapixels and is a bit bulky to drag around everyday). Great camera love the manual mode, it would have been great if Canon could have thrown in L series grade optics.

I just got this camera two weeks ago and love it. This is my second digital camera I have purchased. I own NIKON coolpixel 800 and needed a smaller one to keep in my purse for the daily shots of my kids. I purchased the black one hoping it would take more abuse than the silver one.
Just took it on our ski trip and I kept it in my pocket the entire week and it worked great. The shots on the snow came out great, so the scenes option is helpfull to me. I took pictures and videos and the battery is stil on full. I purchased the cover for LCD to protect it and that helped a lot.
I am not a profesional but love taking pictures and this camera is great for the money.
Easy to operate and would recomend it to anyone who likes to cary it around all the time. The size is just right.
Love it!

I have a Nikon D300 & D200. I wanted something little to carry in my purse for everyday use. I tried several and this camera has everything I wanted - eye piece, high MP, easy to use, small and compact. The lag time is long, but I can adapt for a point & shoot.

Simple to use, good battery life, durable. I bought two of these - one for my wife and one for myself. We both really have enjoyed them - images are crisp, sharp and with a 2 year old, we needed FAST! Does all of this - we are very pleased.

I use the SD990 for casual photography. I got this becasue I wanted more control over f/stop etc. The SD990 features a lovely balance between being able to control the settings and relying on the presets. So far, I have found the SD990 easy to use and comfortable to hold. Canon has put many dials on the back of the SD990, some need to be pushed and others turned. The screen will direct you how to use the dials, but it took a little time to get used to the various functions. All in all, I am satisfied with my purchase and would reccommend it to others looking for a more sophisticated point and shoot camera.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH Digital Camera (Black):
I've used this camera for about one month, mostly for snapshots, as I use a Fuji Fine Pix S-3 Pro with Nikkor lenses for my more serious nature and landscape photographs.
Image quality is very good. Flexibility and the ability to manually control scene settings is a real plus. There are so many feautures on this camera, that it will probably take me months to learn and use them all, but in the meantime, the Auto or Program mode lets you shoot excellent snapshots without the learning curve.
The owner's manual is very well organized, allowing you to learn as little or as much as you want, or need, to know to use the camera.
The 32 meg memory card shipped with the camera is all but worthless. Anything less that 4 gig is probably a waste of money and with the low price of memory, 8 gig is probably the best choice.
The AV cable is not the same as most cameras. It has a mini usb connector for the camera side, so if you need an extra cable, you will have to buy one separately.
All in all, this is a very capable camera. I replaced my Canon SD850 IS with this camera, and I am happy with the decision.
