Comments about Domke F-2 Backpack (Black):
i've been using a small over the shoulder domke camera bag for my mamiya 7II for 6 years and loved it. i have never before purchased a camera backpack because i don't like the ripstop nylon+other synthetic material used on most. So when i saw this in the store the other day i thought it was a dream come true.
it looks a lot like a military surplus backpack but has enough pockets and compartments for batteries, film, my polaroid, compact 35 mm,+mamiya. i was hoping it would have enough room for my canon 5D as well, but it doesn't. i bought the big size first but it was too roomy (the cameras were jostling around too much) and the size smaller is too small (for any additional lenses or the 5D). i suppose i really need an in between size-which either they do not make or do not have in the store.
overall i would say it is a great looking bag with one big fault: there is very little padding on the bottom-so i had to pack both my cameras in a domke wrap+put padding on the bottom of the bag. for the price i would think they could have put more of their great inserts on the bottom+on the sides but they didn't. the other less than desirable fact is that the straps are scratchy and the backpack isn't weighted particularly well-i think the straps should sit higher or something? i went for a hike in california last week and even with the chest strap+waist strap tightened all the way-my back was rather sore after only 20 minutes.
so, i am not exactly dissatisfied but not completely happy either. i think domke is a great company but i think they really should have considered these safety and comfort factors further while designing the bag, as it's not wholly practical without other accessories. i have been SO happy with my F-5XB Shoulder/Belt Bag that this backpack has honestly this has been a disappointment.
