The Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs is part of the 055CX series, which was designed to meet the needs of demanding professionals and photography enthusiasts who want the best in terms of performance and quality. It has been improved with the use of carbon fiber tubing for its legs. Thanks to innovative production techniques - which allow for high quality 100% carbon tube structures - the 055CX series guarantees a higher load capacity and an increased height with a lighter overall weight (-20%) thanks to a completely new design, which allowed to lighten the components.
The 055CXPRO4 is a 4-leg section tripod, with a center column design that allows it to be used in either vertical or horizontal position. By extending the column to its highest vertical position, the column can be swung over to horizontal without removing the head or disassembling the column itself.
The 055CXPRO4 also features several other improvements, such as an improved leg locking system, redesigned angle adjustment levers, and a leveling bubble that is incorporated into the head plate.

I do lots of hiking and I needed a reliable, lightweight, affordable, easy to use, tripod. I was looking at the Gitzo Basalt and CF but was unsure how well the twist locks would hold up to the dirt, snow, and ice we have here in Wisconsin. I also didn't like that if something hit the basalt then it would make a loud clang. I don't want the wildlife to know I'm there.
I wanted light weight design so carbon fiber was my only option. I couldn't afford the Gitzo models that compared to the 055cxpro 4. It is loaded with features that are practical and work. Manfrotto did an incredible job at making this tripod easy to use. The leg angles adjust easier that my previous model by leaps and bounds. I really like the quick horizontal feature, I have a similar feature on my 3001BPro but I never used it because it just took to long to do.
The only complaint I have is that it is a little jerky when adjusting the length of the legs. Not so much that I get irritated but I notice it once in a while. I would guess it comes from the carbon fiber friction. Really a small observation than a deciding factor.
For those who are unsure about the leg lock design. I had them covered in snow and ice and with gloves on, I could easily unlock it, break the ice and adjust it.
I get obsessive when researching something and I'm glad I did because this is one of the best purchases I've made. Together with the Acratech GV2 ballhead this is the perfect tripod for me. I asked a pro photographer what he uses and said I wouldn't be unhappy with the Manfrotto 055cxpro 4, he's used Manfrotto for years.

This tripod is definitely light weight, but some features could be improved. The leg release buttons are hard to press, and once pressed, the legs are not very easy to adjust. This should be a more fluid process, in my humble opinion. Also, the ability to make the center column swing out horizontally seems pointless. This is not proper substitution to ground level shots. [...] I returned this tripod for a better model.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I bought this tripod to replace an inferior aluminum tripod. Wish I had done that two years ago. This tripod is very well constructed and lightweight. I bought a joystick head to use with it, another excellent choice. Manfrotto makes very high quality gear.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
This is not heavy, but good stability.
For nikon D7000 with 16-85mm lenses, 055cxpro4 may be too tough.
But I can take a photo without worry.
And I like the design too.
I think the cost effective is very high.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I was apprehensive to spend this much money on a tripod but it has proved worthy of the cost. I have the Manfrotto Pro190 and it is too short and too unstable. The 055CXPRO4 weighs less and is taller and more stable. I was always worried that the 190 would tip over and distroy my equipment. I don't have that concern with the 055CXPRO4. I haven't had it out in the field yet, but for table top and portrait it works nicely. It is very compact when folded which makes traveling with it easy.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
After a lot of study and research, I picked the 055CXPRO4 because of both its height and short length when folded.
While I was concerned about the stability of a four section leg system, it is very stable and meets all of my expectations.
It matches up very well with the Manfrotto 498RC2 ball head and provides a quick release system that can't be beat.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I have both the aluminum ProB and the CXPro4. The CF legs with the hydrostatic ballhead weigh less than the aluminum legs alone, which is one of the reasons I picked up the CF. The other being that it is compact in length to not hang out when using my Think Tank urban disguise bag, I can attach the tripod to the bag.
All the vibration damping of the CF is one of the other reasons for the purchase and going for the heavier 055 vs 190 wind resistance is the other.
For wide angle shots, macro and even standard lenses the lighter 190 should suffice but I tend to take 300-420mm shots at great distances, so I went with the stiffer tripod.
I have the aluminum short stem for the 055ProB but it feels heavier than the longer CF one from the CX. It fits in the CX model fine if I have to shoot at ground level without going horizontal.
I will add some grip tape to the leg below the head, the CF is smooth and if it is damp or dusty I bet it will be slippery.
Gitzo may be better and I have never used one, for those who don't get paid and do this as a hobby the extra few hundred saved can go to filters.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
Excellent stability with no visible motion artifact in time exposures and with a zoom telephoto, even with the center post extended. Easily supports the camera body and a heavy long lens. Quick locks have positive feel, allowing the tripod to be set up very quickly. The center post quickly converts from vertical to horizontal.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I bought this tripod because I wanted one that collapsed to less than 24" long. I really like the ability to switch the center poll to horizontal mode without having to take anything apart. The tripod does not seem to vibrate at all under my d700 with 18-300 zoom. It is not too heavy for short hikes either.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
After buying a used Bogen/Manfrotto 410 head over half a year ago, I was in search of some tripod legs. I knew I'd be going with Gitzo or Manfrotto, but I finally decided to go with the 055CXPRO4. I travel a lot for work and almost always take my DSLR kit with me (lenses, flash, body and grip), so I wanted a tripod that is compact. I am okay sacrificing some weight gain for its compactness.
Overall, I'm very happy with this product. Its lightweight (though not the lightest, so I've read), the stability is good, and the quick release center column gives you a lot of options and flexibility.
Plus, I got this while their rebate was going on, so the price was also good.
Definitely recommend this to anybody.

I use this tripod for my canon eos 7d. I love it. It is extremely stable, lightweight and well built. The legs and locks work great and are easy to change and adjust on the fly. I am 5ft tall and I weigh 100lbs. I needed to find a tripod that is stable enough to support my camera with battery grip and my heaviest 100-400mm lens while being LIGHTWEIGHT. This tripod does the job!!!

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
This tripod is lightweight to carry compared to aluminum tripods. So it saves your arm from the weight of a regular tripod. It is easy to use and easy to get the middle leg up and over to use. Nothing to take loss or stick back in with that section. Love it.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
Don't think I ever bought a product from Manfrotto that was a disappointment. Newest Carbon tripod series are great value. I especially like the pivoting center column and trying to work out a few neat ways to use it with a counterweight for a limited but useful 'jib' when shooting video.
Well made and worth the price. Have not found anything negative but wondering why they didn't fit retractable spikes into the feet.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I primarily bought this tripod for use with a very heavy spotting scope (and to a lesser degree SLR camera use). The weight (or lack of weight) is quite impressive, especially for packing/ hiking. The main legs are somewhat large (for stiffness and to hold the additional leg segments). Although the tripod folds quite compact in length, is slightly bulky in transverse diameter due to the upper leg sections. However, the legs are very very stiff, even when fully extended, and it is very sturdy. Plus, the carbon fiber dampens vibrations much better than aluminum. I chose the 4-section over the 3-section for the shorter folded length and feel I made the best decision (for me). One negative or minor annoyance is that the button on the bottom of center column rattles some when the tripod is bumped during transport. However, since it's so stable when set up, a bump hard enough to produce the rattle would probably markedly upset the tripod.

New camera was too heavy for previous tripod, so bought this as replacement, along with trigger grip ball head. Took some getting used to, but works very well. As experiment, tried it with old 500mm reflex lens and added a tele-extender, to reach out to 1000mm. Entire lash up weighed close to 10 lbs. From my roof in Northern Virginia, was able to get clear shots across DC into Maryland - including Fed-Ex Field, about 20 miles away. 'pod held everything steady.

I'm using this tripod for a Nikon D90 DSLR with 496RC2 ball head. It's very versatile, folds up small. I was looking at the 055CXPRO3 tripod but got the 055CXPRO4 because it folded up into a smaller package. I use for outdoor photography. It's very light weight, yet stable.

Comments about Manfrotto 055CXPRO4 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black):
I looked into tripods quite thoroughly. My main criteria was Carbon Fiber, weight, folded length (<21"), extended Height, max supported weight and obviously Cost. I feel that I have landed on the correct pick. This tripod is probably has all these parameters optimized.
