Applied Magic DVD Shop Express

DVD Shop Express from Applied Magic is a complete, easy-to use hardware and software solution for creating, authoring and finalizing DVDs. The Express is a perfect companion to any videographer, educator
or coach with a ScreenPlay.
The DVD Shop Express has an intuitive interface that prompts the user to select a background, type in the date, name of DVD, select one of several chaptering features and bring in the video source through DV or S-video. DVD Shop Express does the rest by encoding the video, creating the authored DVD and burning the DVD. It will even create a label and a wrap without any additional effort. Simply plug in a USB printer, load the media and DVD Shop Express will do the rest.
- Smaller Enclosure
- By making the enclosure smaller and lighter (12 lbs.), DVD Shop Express is easier than ever to take on location for live productions. Create DVDs at a school play, wedding, corporate lecture or court deposition and hand a professional DVD to the customer on the spot.
- Archive Video
- The hard drives are 160GB and 300GB. Now a user can save dozens of DVD projects on the 300GB drive while the 160GB is used for working with active projects.
- Live Chapter Selection
- Select and title a chapter point as the video is being captured without having to review the encoded video. This saves time and production costs to any video production.
- Make a DVD From Any Source
- Author a DVD from any DV/Analog source including Video Mixer, Camera, VHS Player, ScreenPlay/NLE or live capture feed.
- Point & Click User Interface
- Applied Magic has designed their intuitive user interface with the look and feel of standard video deck controls making it easy to master the use of DVD Shop Express in a matter of minutes.
- Dolby AC3 Audio Encoding
- From the Encoding menu you can select either Stereo AC3 (Dolby) or MPEG Audio for the audio encoding format.
- Segment Encoding
- You have the ability to pause and restart the video capture as necessary. Each time you do, the system will automatically place a chapter marker at the beginning of the next video segment and this marker will show up as a scene selection on your DVD menu.
- Auto Play/Continuous Playback Option
- You can choose to create a DVD that stops after one play through or you can choose a continuous or looped DVD format.
- Main Menus
- Most of the main menus come with buttons which direct the viewer to "play video", "scene selection", and "about this DVD". With Menu maker one can open a template and move/change the buttons to their desired look.
- Scene Selection Menu
- This is where the thumbnails of the chapterpoints are displayed. If there are more than 12 thumbnails, an additional page will be automatically created.
- About this DVD
- This gives the author a chance to enter information about the DVD, copyright info, etc.

As a professional video service provider to the retail consumer market, we evaluated this unit to replace our Panasonic DVD recorders. After exhaustive testing with analog & DV tapes, this unit just could not produce a finished DVD with any kind of acceptable picture quality. Never produced a clear enough picture without graininess. It's lacking a TBC card, and/or a higher quality video capture system. Our $400 standalone Panasonic units make a superior DVD recording compared to this unit, without a great menu, but a way better DVD.
