Nikon HB-47 Bayonet Lens Hood for AF-S 50mm f/1.4G
The dedicated Nikon HB-47 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with the AF-S 50mm f/1.4G lens.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

it's a sturdy hood that will do it's job of protecting your lens (which is why i bought it). i have had some trouble with the hood coming off when i pull it in and out of my bag, but overall- it's a durable little hood.

I purchased this after having a tripod fail on me and fall with the camera on it. The old Hood shattered into several pieces but protected the camera and the lens. A small price to replace the hood compared to the lens! Fits perfectly and works just as good as the one that came with the lens. This isn't the best hood, and honestly I looked for an aftermarket one with a different shape because I'm not impressed with this one and it's lack of lens flare reduction. However it functions just as the original and I wouldn't even think of shooting without it.
