The LCD cover can be removed when using the camera, and can be easily placed back as an extra protection or as a shade on a sunny day. It also comes with a clear LCD protector below the shade, so it's always protected. I gave it 4 stars just because now I have to press the buttons a little harder for the camera to respond, but otherwise it's an excellent add-on.

Pop Up Shade really doesn't assist me while shooting. The Shade is flimsy and lightweight and really won't stay on the camera. The pop-up feature didn't work well. Purchased about 1 month ago. Easy to attache to camera. Control buttons have a delayed response. The door of the shade kept popping off.

I added this to my Canon Rebel XSi, but it seems to be in the way more than anything else. You shot pics through the view finder, not the LCD. So, you have to close it every time before you take a pic. When it is closed, you can't see the camera's menus. If it opened downward, I might reconsider. But then, it might not really block the ambient lighting on the LCD like it was supposed to.

Not only does it give better visibility to the screen for outdoor use but gives good protection for the camera screen which is the main reason that I purchased it. Only a few dollars more than the Canon product but a much better product.
