Exclusively designed for EOS Digital Rebel and other cameras using the "APS-C" size sensor.
The Canon 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 EF-S IS II Lens is a standard zoom lens that features the smaller size image circle, exclusively designed for EOS Digital Rebel and other cameras using the "APS-C" size sensor. The focal length is equivalent to approx. 28-90mm in 35mm format. This makes it ideal as a basic everyday lens.
This lens features Canon's optical Image Stabilizer technology, which provides up to 3-4 stop compensation for image blur caused by camera shake and slow shutter speeds. This ensures clear, crisp images, even in dim light.
Designed specifically for digital photography, the lens has specially shaped lens elements and Super Spectra coatings to suppress ghosting and flare, which can be caused by reflections of digital camera sensors. An exclusive optional lens hood can further reduce the incidence of flare.
Note! White Box merchandise comes supplied in a plain white box, instead of the manufacturer's colorful packaging. It is not a returned or refurbished item. It still includes all the manufacturer's accessories.

I heard so many good things about this lens that I decided to give it a try, since the price is so cheap.
This lens was the biggest surprise to me of all lenses I have ever purchased. It is razor sharp even wide open at every focal length and in the corresponding focal length range it is as sharp as my 24-105L lens on the 5D MK II body.
It is a cheaply built plastic mount lens, but you can not expect a "L" lens built quality in a cheap lens like this one. I keep it on my 3rd body a Canon 50D all the time and it is with me in the car everywhere I go. Many times it came very handy and the picture quality is amazing.
The bottom line is that you can not loose on this lens and I highly recommend it if you need a small and light walk around lens for your crop field Canon body.

Using DSLR for Video function not stills.
Good:
Cheap for a DSLR lens
Image Stabilization with an on/off switch
Light weight, doesn't destabilize the camera
Bad:
Variable aperture challenging indoors
Focus ring is on the lip not the body
Only for APS-C cameras
Its less than half the price of any decent Canon prime. Aside from this the 50mm 1.8 II (~$99) would be a good starting lens for experimenting which focal lengths are useful to you. When you've saved up your pennies you can buy the 'serious' lenses which go from hundreds to thousands. To put it in perspective, this lens is about the price of a good CPL filter on a 72/77mm lens. It works in daylight or in very good lighting with high ISO indoors. It gives you time to think about what you really want rather than sinking a lot of money immediately.

I needed to replace my 55mm lens. This lens was perfect. Compared to other on-line catalogs I looked at, the price was better, the easy of ordering was better and the product arrived within a couple of days. I was able to use it this weekend for a family event and the photos look great.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Autofocus Lens (White Box):
First, this is a very inexpensive lens, under $200. Because of that there are some drawbacks... the lens feels a bit flimsy, the fit and finish leave something to be desired and it basically lacks manual focus with a very tiny ring that's non-functional in AF mode.
However... optically it's a different story. This thing may feel cheap and flimsy but there's nothing wrong with the pictures that come out of it. Yes, it's no "L" lens but it does give very good results provided you accept it's limitations. For the price I can't fault it at all; it needs a fair amount of light but it's surprisingly capable.

I've only used the lens on the camera for a few weeks, but it seems to work well and produce acceptible quality pictures. The White Box is good, because you get a Canon quality lens at a discount price.

I bought this lens to replace my old 18-55 mm lens that came with my Canon xsi.Since the original lens had been so useful and versatile , I decided not to upgrade to a different lens when it started to malfunction. For an all around lens you can't beat this lens. The picture quality is consistently great...even in low light situations.

This lens is basic but so much more elevated than the lens that came with the rebel I bought 7 years ago. The image stabilization is wonderful. I take a lot of photos in low light on manual and it's helped to make them so much clearer than before!

This lens is versatile and reliable. It is fast and produces great results. While there are times I want a more specialized lens, this lens will give me consistent results when I just want to snap away pictures of my kids playing soccer or participating in other events. I also like its weight - makes my camera not too heavy while chasing kids around.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Autofocus Lens (White Box):
I use the original Canon Digital Rebel to shoot landscape and nature photos with a focus on sunrises and sunsets. I don't use a tripod and it takes beautiful shots, capturing the magnificent colors in the California skies. I can enlarge my photos to big sizes without any color correction and the images are crystal clear. I have little in the way of technical skills but have the eye to know where to go to capture nature's spectacular beauty. The camera does that rest, and that is a credit to the people from Canon for making this incredible and easy to use product.

Perfect connection with camera and IS is indeed very helpful. Standard box is as needed.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II Autofocus Lens (White Box):
This is a major improvement over the original kit lens. I purchased it because I needed an inexpensive wide-angle lens with little warning - normally I wouldn't have looked at this lens, but circumstances forced the issue. I've been surprised - it's a solid performer optically and for nature/landscape work it seems trustworthy. Both the optics and the IS are good; the build quality, however, is lacking. The lens is all plastic (even the mount) and feels like one good impact would break it apart. Manual focusing, especially, is almost impossible; there is very little range and the front element/focus ring wobbles so much that as soon as I let go of it, the focus shifts. Overall I can only give it 3 stars and say that it's a slightly below average lens than still manages to give slightly above average results.
