Exclusively designed for EOS Digital Rebel and other cameras using the "APS-C" size sensor.
A distância focal é equivalente a aproximadamente 28-90mm no formato 35mm.

I heard so many good things about this lens that I decided to give it a try, since the price is so cheap.
This lens was the biggest surprise to me of all lenses I have ever purchased. It is razor sharp even wide open at every focal length and in the corresponding focal length range it is as sharp as my 24-105L lens on the 5D MK II body.
It is a cheaply built plastic mount lens, but you can not expect a "L" lens built quality in a cheap lens like this one. I keep it on my 3rd body a Canon 50D all the time and it is with me in the car everywhere I go. Many times it came very handy and the picture quality is amazing.
The bottom line is that you can not loose on this lens and I highly recommend it if you need a small and light walk around lens for your crop field Canon body.

Good:
Cheap for a DSLR lens
Image Stabilization with an on/off switch

Bad:

Focus ring is on the lip not the body
Only for APS-C cameras
Its less than half the price of any decent Canon prime. Aside from this the 50mm 1.8 II (~$99) would be a good starting lens for experimenting which focal lengths are useful to you. When you've saved up your pennies you can buy the 'serious' lenses which go from hundreds to thousands. To put it in perspective, this lens is about the price of a good CPL filter on a 72/77mm lens. It works in daylight or in very good lighting with high ISO indoors. It gives you time to think about what you really want rather than sinking a lot of money immediately.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Autofocus Lens (White Box):
I use the original Canon Digital Rebel to shoot landscape and nature photos with a focus on sunrises and sunsets. I don't use a tripod and it takes beautiful shots, capturing the magnificent colors in the California skies. I can enlarge my photos to big sizes without any color correction and the images are crystal clear. I have little in the way of technical skills but have the eye to know where to go to capture nature's spectacular beauty. The camera does that rest, and that is a credit to the people from Canon for making this incredible and easy to use product.
Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Autofocus Lens (White Box):
Perfect connection with camera and IS is indeed very helpful. Standard box is as needed.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Autofocus Lens (White Box):
This is a major improvement over the original kit lens. I purchased it because I needed an inexpensive wide-angle lens with little warning - normally I wouldn't have looked at this lens, but circumstances forced the issue. I've been surprised - it's a solid performer optically and for nature/landscape work it seems trustworthy. Both the optics and the IS are good; the build quality, however, is lacking. The lens is all plastic (even the mount) and feels like one good impact would break it apart. Manual focusing, especially, is almost impossible; there is very little range and the front element/focus ring wobbles so much that as soon as I let go of it, the focus shifts. Overall I can only give it 3 stars and say that it's a slightly below average lens than still manages to give slightly above average results.

We bought this lens as a replacement to our original. The original was bought at a large chain 2 years ago and the autofocus quit working out of the blue.
This lens is exactly like the other, only cheaper than buying at a chain.
I hope the autofocus doesn't go out on this one.

Read a bunch of reviews on this, they are mostly true. Good price, quality is just good enough to get the job done. Mine feels a little stiff when trying to turn the zoom to 18.

This is my everyday lens. My other lens that came with my camera broke and this one is a replacement of that one. This one is a slight step up from the stock lens. It has the "Image Stabilization" feature and my other one did not. All in all a great lens for the price.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Autofocus Lens (White Box):
I bought this as a present for someone who was new to the video/photo options of the DSLR. He's already been creating good images with it. If you're looking for the best stock lens, I would still go with the canon 50mm 1.8. It's cheaper and has a greater depth. The plus to this lens is the image stabalizer which is good for when shooting handheld.

I thought this would be a good cheapo to have on hand if I needed it and/or good for practicing my 7D while I waited for the funding to come in to buy better lenses. I was pleasantly surprised that it was a pretty decent lens. I'd still recommend saving up for something a bit more powerful for video.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Autofocus Lens (White Box):
I owned an 18-55 years ago (it was the first lens I ever bought) and I remembered it was always excellent to have in my bag. Recently, while lens hunting I decided to invest in a new 18-55 (my old one I sold years ago but I missed that nice, easy wide angle). This new 18-55 (updated with IS) does not disappoint. Though it is a lower-end lens, it focuses quickly, has great depth of field, and the focus distance is amazing. The construction is a bit weak but nothing terrible and it is what you'd expect from a lens this price. That being said, it is compact and a very good choice for all around shooting.

Comments about Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Autofocus Lens (White Box):
Canon gives you a choice of kit lenses that are 18mm at the wide end. This is the only one you should consider. The 18-135mm and 18-200mm cost a lot more, and cover larger focal length ranges, but what you gain in reach you lose in design compromises and image quality *bigtime*.
The 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is the lens to get unless you can afford the big price jump to either the 17-55mm f/2.8 (best in class APS-C standard zoom) or the 15-85mm f/3.5-5.6 which is a superb travel/walkaround zoom.
I bought the 18-55 IS with my 60D, while waiting for the 17-55mm to have an instant rebate. I don't love the build quality of the 18-55, or the rotating sorry excuse for a manual focus ring, but these annoyances aside, the lens delivers image quality that is unprecedented for its price point. It's like the nifty-fifty of standard zooms.
I did some comparison shots with the 17-55 when I finally got it, and at the same apertures the 18-55 actually holds its own against the 6-times-as-expensive lens! The upgrade was still worth it, for the constant f/2.8 alone, but while using the 18-55 I never felt like I was compromised on image quality, as has always been the case with previous kit lenses I've used.
