The Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens is a compact and lightweight standard zoom lens that offers superior optical performance, plus a built-in Image Stabilizer. The IS system reduces the possibility of blurred photographs caused by camera shake, which allows for handheld photography in comparatively dim light without a flash or tripod. At the wideangle end of the zoom range, the equivalent shutter speed gain is approximately 1.5 stops while at the telephoto end, it is approximately 2 stops.
In addition, the lens has a USM drive mechanism for faster and quieter AF operation, and the pulse control diaphragm (EMD) ensures precise aperture control.
Note! White Box merchandise comes supplied in a plain white box, instead of the manufacturer's colorful packaging. It still includes all the manufacturer's accessories.

Dollar-for-dollar, this is the best consumer-grade Canon lens available. The focal-length makes it a great walk-around lens. The onboard Image Stabilization allow for crisp zoom shots without a tripod. If your hands shake a lot, this lens will help overcome that.
On the flip side, I found the Macro option provides a really startling level of detail up close. I also found the combination of the f3.5 and Image Stabilization to be of great use in low-light, indoor shooting where flash is prohibited. It's a fairly fast-focusing lens, too.
Considering it is 1/3 the price of an L-series lens, I cannot find a single fault with it. Anyone looking for a general-purpose lens for under $500 to compliment their Canon Digital Rebel, Rebel XSI, 30D or 40D has found it here.

I used this product as a starter lens when I fist bought my canon 7d. For the fist few weeks it was quite good however as time whent on more and more dust showed up on the internal lens elements . Also the clarity of images droped to where now most images are only fair.

Used this lens for inside and some outside shots at Christmas.
While I can't say it's as good as some more expensive lens. It's plenty good for my picts.

Can somewhat shoot decent pictures in poorly-lit areas, although I would still recommend a flash.

I needed a "walking around" lens to fill the gap between my kit and my 70-200 2.8L USM.
I was REALLY going to wait til I had the Cash for the 28-135 2.8 but I always seem to find something else to spend the money on. With my Speedlite 580EX II I am able to overcome the slower glass and saved. With the proper lighting any shot is doable.
I know that when I get a chnce to shoot outdoors with it I will need to take a longer exposure during the golden hours but I'm ok with that...for now.
Eventually, I'll buy the 2.8 but this is a good stepping stone.

I've enjoyed this lense so far. The pictures are very sharp. It is a great all purpose lense. With this lense, I don't have to change out lenses at all during a photo shoot or event.

Great product for the money. I can see that with time the lens will/can become loose and telescope out while walking, etc. But without $1000 laying around this is a great alternative to give you the range and quality you desire, for a reasonable cost.

I've only used this product for about a month now, but it's an amazing all purpose lens. I'm still up and coming, but shoot sports events, birthday parties, weddings and this lens was awesome for my tight budget. Gets great close up shots, super wide angle lens so you can fit way more in the frame than a standard lens. The telephoto on this is great too! I have no complaints about it thus far.

I have yet to discover any cons in regards to this lens. I have been in love with it from the first. I am a photography student and am new to all of this, but a friend recommended this lens so I got it. It arrived promptly and so I was able to use it for my first real 'photo shoot' and the pictures turned out great. The only other lens I have at present is an 18-55mm so this gave me a better zoom which helped greatly.

Comments about Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens (White Box):
Quality and construction are very good. I did notice that when the camera was pointed down, the lens ring slipped down too, but that didn't bother me. The colors and bokeh are very nice as well. I did return this len because I need more of a zoom for kids' sports but overall I was very happy with the quality, and would have kept it had it not been for the zoom.

Comments about Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens (White Box):
A decent lens that is a step up from the kit lens you get with the 550D. Nothing fancy, image quality is decent and it gets the job done. Macro is a gimmick.

Needed a zoom lens for when I travel or want to take photos without pushing in or pulling back.
Works great, feels great in the hands, takes solid and clear pictures on my 60D.
It's silent for the image stabilization. The auto-focus is quick to acquire.
My only gripe is when I have the camera on my shoulder and the lens points down the barrel extends from just walking. Otherwise I really like the lens.

Comments about Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Image Stabilizer USM Autofocus Lens (White Box):
I bought this lens as my everyday lens. It allows for great scenery as well as close ups for candid shots. I'm impressed with all of the photos I have taken so far, including one of a plane in flight in a beautiful blue sky with fluffy white clouds. As a relative amateur, the shots look professional! It is a little heavier than my others, but worth it.

This is a nice everyday kind of lens. It is great during daylight, but is not the nicest in low light. Overall great for the outdoors.

When I purchased this lense for my canon 5D mark 11 [...] it was light and inexpensive and since I mainly use primes for work I thought this would serve the occasional situation where a zoom was required. I took the lense out for a spin and was disappointed with the results - not sharp enough. I tested for table top - even stopped down it was not up to par - and at 28mm there was noticeable bowing at the edges. Try as I might to convince myself that the lense was serviceable - I could not hold my head high as a professional photographer. [...]

Nice upgrade to the lens that came with my 60D. Very sharp images. Don't have a problem with the weight. Maybe it's because my camera isn't as heavy as the more professional cameras in the first place, or maybe it's because I prefer a hefty feel for my equipment.
