Comments about Coby DTV102 ATSC Standard-Definition TV Converter Box:
I agree with the first 3 reviews about the box. The bad and the worst thing is the remote control needs to be pointed closely directly at the box in order for it to work. But I read a review somewhere online ( I forgot the name of it), where there are one review gave a very good advice on how to make the remote control work at longer range. Use a sharp razor, carefully cut the edge of the round window sensor on the box, locaTE to the left of the negative sign channel button on the converter box. carefully cut the edge, and peel it out. [$] It is the cheapest and got one of the best reviews I can find in my area. I am very happy with the purchase. I would recommend to friends.

This discontinued product has many flaws. It has almost daily issue with locking up (unit must be unplugged and plugged in again to work, buttons on front and remote do nothing when locked up). Also, the menu seems to lose information when you do have to recover from the regular lockups - channels locked out or non existent show up (i get 51..1,51.2,51.3 etc and nothing is in that range). You have to go into menu and delete these bogus channels but NEXT TIME YOU PLUG IN, they are back. Also intermittently, they appear in the channel selections. Could be any numbers, these show up most often. Obviously they discontinued because of returns (my local [...] stopped selling them after a mountain of boxes were returned.)Only good thing? Its incredibly cheap - I paid [$] but with the $40 coupon that was only $9. Not worth it of course, since it doesn't work for beans. Even at free I would not bother with this unless for a paperweight or book end.Do yourself a favor and skip over this poorly-engineered, landfill-destined converter.

The box does the job but the remote sensor has to be directly pointed at the convertor box.

Comments about Coby DTV102 ATSC Standard-Definition TV Converter Box:
Digital TV led me to leave cable tv and all those monthly fees behind. I get about 40 channels, with an amazing sharp picture and I'm just using rabbit ears. It comes with a remote which has its own channel guide, a signal strength feature which lets you see how to set your antenna for the best reception. The only drawback was the remote needs to be pointed right at the box or it doesn't get the signal.
There isn't much from cable that I miss that I cannot find for free between this and Hulu TV. Glad I dropped cable.
