The 52mm Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Filter from Tiffen has several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. It enables the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the either the sensor of a digital camera or the film plane of a traditional film camera. Neutral Density filters are used to create some unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of the rippling water of a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings. Determining which neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters.

I'm really sorry to give a poor review on a super simple project but something doesn't seem right.
I own a videocamera with a 1/4" sensor, not friendly on getting nice shallow DOF shots. I purchased two of these so that I could stack them and use them on really bright days and to open up my iris without changing the shuter speed. (My cam is a HMC40)
For some reason, even though you cannot see it, when I stacked two of them together, my greens from the trees, became ORANGE. Yes there was a SLIGHT change in whites, but why are my greens... orange???
Since I cannot post a link to proove I'm not crazy, go to a site called pinkbike (it's a online community for mountain bikers like myself), after reaching the homepage, in the url add /photo/5414815/ to the end of it. That is my frame grabs with these filters. I don't know why this is like this at all.

This is my third Tiffen ND filter and I am very happy with all of them. They are well made, do their job and don't cost an arm and a leg.

Nothing fancy here, just a neutral filter. I'm sure there are more expensive ones that have magical glare coating, but nobody really needs that.

I used the fliter for capturing waterfalls. I wanted that smooth misty water look, and needed to stop down the lens a little more. The Tiffen filter was perfect.

This is going on a Canon 50mm, 1.8, so... it's not being asked to do that much. Still, no complaints.

I used this filter, stacked with others, to create great effects with water. I put the filter to work within days of receiving it.
