The 58mm Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Filter from Tiffen has several uses and offer the possibility to achieve otherwise unachievable results. It enables the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. ND filters appear gray and reduce the amount of light reaching the either the sensor of a digital camera or the film plane of a traditional film camera. Neutral Density filters are used to create some unusual special effects such as capturing the "blur" of the rippling water of a waterfall or the swirling effect of city traffic.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings. Determining which neutral density filter yields ideal results for any given lighting situation takes knowledge, experience and a collection of such filters.

Got this for my 50 mm 1.4 lens so I can shoot wide open when there is just too much light, whether outdoors or in studio. Can be hard to focus indoor if not enough available light (when using studio strobes, otherwise you wouldnt need the filter)

Tiffen filters have always worked well for me and this is another winner. The .9 is just right for my DSLR but this one I use on a GoPro camera to slow down the shutter.

I used the ND filter to take a slow shutter shot at Times Square. Worked great at dimming the bright lights.

Comments about Tiffen 58mm Neutral Density (ND) 0.9 Filter:
I used the neutral density filter for blurring water motion of waterfalls while on a vacation in California and Oregon. I didn't have bright sunlight too often, so I didn't get to know the full potential of the product, but it worked well when I did use it. I didn't have any issues with color hue changes as some articles on neutral density filters indicate can occur. Be aware of vignetting if using with other filters and of loosing too much light as with any neutral density filter.

I bought this specifically for use at the beach if my planned trip at low tide turned out to be a battle with high noon sun. And it did just that! So I was very happy to have this with me. I have always been happy with Tiffen glass.

I purchased this filter to shoot Fourth of July fireworks. It enabled me to leave the shutter open longer without over exposing - exactly what I wanted to do with it.

This works as advertised. It lowers the shutter speed by about three stops and doesn't reduce image quality. It is a must-have for water shots. The only problem I have had is that is cross-threads a little to easily, although that might be just me.

I use this with my kit lens and am very happy with the performance it provides. I intend to eventually upgrade to an l lens or two and didn't want to spend too much on a filter that I would only use for a couple months. It's a great optic and works as well as I expected it to.

Great to use on bright days to bring detail out of your subjects and landscapes. Very nice for the price but not as precise as a combination or Hoya.
