I needed an external monitor for my aluminum Apple Macbook (MB467LL/A). This cable allowed me to connect to a Dell 19 inch monitor. Both the monitor and laptop recognized the connection. I did need to click the System Preference menu, choose the Display icon, and then click the Mirror option. This simultaneously displayed the image on my laptop and the external monitor.

Third-party suppliers will likely sell this simple piece of hardware for less than ½ Apple's price once production is ramped up. But I needed it now and it works OK.

Simply removed it from packaging, connected HDMI cable from monitor to one end and the other went in my iMac, then go to System Preferences/Displays and in absolutely no time, it was working like a charm! Possibly easier on an iMac than a PC; I can't say, but I strongly recommend it to anyone with an iMac who wants to expand viewing area.
A very inexpensive way to increase display area and make use of an extra monitor.

Use to add a Dell Ultra Sharp monitor as a second monitor for my iMac. Works . . . as expected.
By the way, if anyone is interested, I have the Dell Ultra Sharp in portrait mode and it all works just fine. Very useful with long layer windows, et al., in Photoshop.

Not fully compatible with Macbook Air: WiFi disappears if external monitor is connected. According to apple support forums this problem is quite common. I've solved the problem by moving access point.
