This drive replaces my first NAS drive that I was using as backup. I wanted a fast drive that I could easily unplug and place in a fireproof safe in case disaster struck. This drive meets my needs to a T. I can back up 225 GB of applications and data including all my photos and my itunes library in just over an hour. With my NAS drive, backing up my itunes library alone took 9 hours. This is revolutionary. No more excuses not to make regular backups.
The drive is silent and not at all warm to the touch. I'm glad I did the extra investigating and purchased an eSATA drive. It makes a huge difference.

Great price. Great drive.
A breeze to set up on my Mac. I'm no power-user, so I have nothing good/bad to say about the speed of the drive, but it's been simple to use and that's what matters to me most. And it's so quiet.
Sleek appearance w/ small footprint.

The esata connection didn't seem much faster when backing up my computer. It was the initial backup using the iomega software, so that could be why.

I use this product to backup my C Drive. I use Windows 7 and it has the capability to create an image of your entire C Drive. I also use it to backup all of my images.
It's great and I have no cpmplaints.

Comments about Iomega 1TB Professional Desktop External Hard Drive:
Is just about as fast as my previous 1TB external with USB 2.0, firewire 499/800 and eSATA. I use eSATA, haven't tried running two drives at once, but I imagine that works and is dependent on the host motherboard anyway.
Does what you buy it for, store data and carry it with you. Not extremely durable like most externals, if you want that you need to shell out for portables with rugged exterior casing.

Comments about Iomega 1TB Professional Desktop External Hard Drive:
I bought this so I could store all my large file photos for my business. It works like a charm, lightning fast in displaying thumbnails. Easy to set up and install.
The only con about this is that the eSATA cable that comes with it isn't very long, so I bought a 6' eSATA cable so I am able to place the drive anyplace on my desk.

It is a great device. Exactly what I wanted and met all my expectations. It is quiet and pretty cool. I haven't really used it to transfer more than 100gb at once, but it performed well. The light is pretty bright, but it has a great look and doesn't bother me. it could annoy a gamer who likes the dark. I love it so far. It is fast too.

Comments about Iomega 1TB Professional Desktop External Hard Drive:
I bought 2 of these drives for recording home videos from my old 8mm and new HD camcorders. I use one as the primary drive and one as the back up.
The video capture device is connected via FireWire 400 and the hard drive via USB 2.0. I have had no problem recording this way. To back up, I connect the other hard drive to another USB port and copy files using SyncBack. The speed seems fine either way, but I don't have anything similar to compare.
So far they have worked fine. They don't run hot or show any signs of failure, although I've only had them less than a month. The drive that I use for the primary has run over night with out getting more than warm.
I like the fact that there is an on/off switch, although it would be nice if the drives went "to sleep" when the computer powers off, as well.
Overall, I've been happy with these drives in the short time I've had them.
I gave the drives 4 stars because I don't have anything to compare to, so there might be something better....

I use this drive for image back ups of my system as well as bulk storage of media files. It is small, quiet, and versatile. Firewire, eSata, or USB makes it easy to haul around and connect to different computers. In addition, a built-in power switch is helpful when using eSata only when you need to.

Comments about Iomega 1TB Professional Desktop External Hard Drive:
So far the drive has been running smoothly with no problems. The eSata is a nice addition to the USB 2 for faster transfer speeds. The drive runs quietly with little noise. My only wish is that you could place the hard drive flat on a surface instead of vertical, but there is no indication on the drive for correct horizontal orientation.

Comments about Iomega 1TB Professional Desktop External Hard Drive:
I use this as a plug and play storage drive between several computers. This unit is 100 percent better than the Seagate external drive I had previously purchased. The Seagate corrupts half of the files and renders them useless. The Omega handle all files of any type and size pefectly. It comes already formated NTFS which saves hours wasted reformatting. I also own 5 Western Digital drives which work perfectly but I just wasn't in the mood to reformat another drive.
