    • Unified Tabbed Interface
    Photoshop features a unified tabbed interface, complete with self-adjusting panels. This interface helps to reduce clutter, giving you a cleaner workspace. Each image is assigned its own tab, eliminating the need to arrange multiple windows. Of course, you'll still have the option to manually arrange floating windows and panels, allowing you compare multiple images in a side-by-side manner.
    • Layer-Based Editing
    Photoshop features a powerful layer-based approach to image editing. You'll be able to work on one layer of an image without modifying other layers, giving you a non-destructive way to make fine adjustments to images. You'll also be able to apply filters to specific layers. Photoshop features masking tools to help you create layers from "flat" still images, such as digital camera photos and scans.
    • Filters and Image Controls
    You'll be able to browse through Photoshop's filter gallery to see how different filters will change an image. Filters are applied as smart layers that are completely non-destructive, can be modified on the fly and can be stacked.
    • RAW File Support
    Photoshop features support for over 150 digital camera RAW file formats. RAW images can be saved in any file format, including PSD, JPG, TIFF, and DNG. There is even a dust busting tool to help you remove "green spots" that appear on your photos as a result of dust on your DSLR's CCD.
    • Quick Select Tool
    The quick select tool allows you to isolate objects in an image in order to create a mask or separate layer. The tool is a great way to separate a subject from the background in order to make changes to each separately.
    • Image Alignment and HDR Support
    Photoshop allows you to align a series of images to compensate for slight camera movement. It features tools that allow you to remove unwanted bystanders from a series of pictures. This can also be used to better create HDR images that are created from a series of exposures of different lengths.
    • Adjustments Panel
    The Adjustments panel gives you quick access to Photoshop's nondestructive correction tools. You'll be able to adjust curves, levels, hue/saturation, and other parameters from this panel. You'll be able to control each parameter independently, without the need to change tools or navigate through menus.
    • Enhanced Panorama Support

Stutter and preview lag are eliminated for smooth scrolling within an image. The Pixel Grid appears at magnifications of 600% or higher, allowing for extremely precise pixel editing.
    • Bridge CS4
    Bridge CS4 is included for image browsing. Bridge allows you to browse though images on a folder level, view image metadata, and search for images. I features a Carousel View for large image-group selections, and can even create contact sheets in PDF format. Bridge can also create web photo galleries and upload them to the Internet.
    • Lightroom 2 Integration
    Photographers will appreciate the enhanced integration with Lightroom 2. Images can be exported from Lightroom 2 to create HDR images, panoramas, or smart objects in Photoshop. Because both applications share the same RAW processing engine, images adjustments made in Lightroom are reflected in Photoshop and vice versa.

    The Photoshop Lightroom 2 Software for Windows and Mac from Adobe is an essential tool for digital photographers. The software features robust photo management capabilities, as well as non-destructive RAW editing, a printing module, and easy output to the web. Lightroom is compatible with both Windows and Mac OS X, and is fully compatible with 64-bit operating systems.

    • Photo Management
    Lightroom features a powerful interface for managing large numbers of photographs. You'll be able to filter images into folders and subfolders; "virtual copies" can exist in multiple folders, without the need to create another copy of the file in question. The software gives you the ability to store photos on multiple hard drives, and even view low-resolution previews of offline media.

    Robust rating, selection, keyword, and metadata tools are available to help you locate images quickly. Lightroom also allows you to create customizable "Smart Collections" that are automatically updated based on this data.
    • Non-Destructive RAW Editing
    The software uses a non-destructive approach to image editing. Original files are untouched by edits. Rather, Lightroom stores adjustments made to images in a central database, ensuring that the integrity of your original files remains intact. You can even write image changes to an XML "sidecar" file, which can be read by Adobe Camera RAW in Photoshop.

    Lightroom features a number of preset develop settings that can be applied to images; you are also able to create your own custom settings for future use. These can be applied on image import en masse, or on an image-by-image basis.

    Image editing controls include standard brightness, contrast, saturation, curve and sharpening adjustments. Lightroom also includes tools to remove chromatic aberration, crop and straighten images, remove dust spots, adjust fill light and black levels, remove red eye, and other common tasks. The local adjustment brush lets you apply changes to only a certain area of the image. Of course, Lightroom also features tight integration with Adobe Photoshop CS3, for those times when pixel editing is a necessity.
    • Image Sharing
    Lightroom allows you to export, print, or showcase images on the web. Adobe maintains a listing of free third-party export plugins are available to directly upload images to popular social networking web sites and gallery applications -- including Facebook, Flickr, and Gallery2 -- directly from within the software.

    You'll also be able to create custom web galleries, both in Flash and HTML formats. These galleries can be hosted on your personal web space, and feature customizable templates. You can even upload these galleries to an FTP server with a single click!

    Lightroom also lets you print images. You can arrange a photo for printing in multiple sizes, or as one of many on a single page. This helps you use paper and ink efficiently.
    • New in Lightroom 2
    Users of the original version of Lightroom will find plenty of reasons to upgrade. The local adjustment brush allows you to dodge, burn, and make other local adjustments. The software also sports 64-bit support, flexible printing packages, enhanced organizational tools, tighter integration with Photoshop CS3, robust volume management, and multiple monitor support.
