This follow focus unit is excellent. But so are many others. And they are much cheaper. I've used the Shoot35 a lot and at a 1/3 of the price, I should have gotten that one. That said, I wanted maximum compatibility and fell in love with some other Zacuto products, so I felt like sticking to tbe brand. They are expensive, yes. But their products are very well thought through, built in excellent quality and their customer service is awesome.

I bought the Z-FF-1Z for use on a PMW-EX1 camera fitted with a Chroziel matte-box. There is little space for a FF in this setup and the Zacuto is ideal. However I would recommend buying it with the bigger gear (11/8 inch instead of the standard 1 inch) to give a little more clearance on the matte box and more suitable ratio with the lens gear.
The FF is very smooth and recommended.

I use the Z-Focus with my Canon 7D package, works great! I also use it with the Red One or the Arri Alexa as a lightweight option when working handheld. Great craftsmanship, it looks like it will withstand the abuse of a film set over time. I would recommend purchasing additional gear ratio sizes in order to have different lens (focus) barrel rotation speeds. The only downside is the small knob diameter when compared to Arri FF's or Chrosziel.
