Pros: plays any DVD, yes, even PAL. I don't know why other reviewers had trouble (setup problems?), but I have played Region 0/2/4 PAL without issue on my NTSC set. The front panel USB port allows you to play downloaded videos. It is easy to set-up and use, and everything is upscaled beautifully to 1080p (over HDMI), much better than my TV can do itself.Cons: it will not play .m4v video files, and the 4:3 "pillarbox" mode has to be set before you play a 4:3 disc, then you have to change it back again for 16:9 discs. It would be nicer if it auto-detected 4:3 content and acted accordingly.[...]

Comments about Pioneer DV-610AVS Multi-System DVD Player (110 - 220V):
I use this device for both NTSC an PAL dvds. So far so good, no issues to report, no skipping in either format. No manual setting required when switching from NTSC to PAL, everything is automatic. This is my first Pioneer product, and with disc players I think it's wise to take out a 2-year warranty just to be sure.

Comments about Pioneer DV-610AVS Multi-System DVD Player (110 - 220V):
I use this product in my home theater system for both movies and music. The upscaling through HDMI is excellent, the picture is very sharp. The sound is fine too and the ability to output multi-channel high resolution audio (DVD-Audio and SACD) through HDMI (as opposed to analog outputs on my old DVD player) results in a major improvement in sound quality because it allows me to use all the digital processing functions on my receiver. The USB input is a nice bonus too since my receiver doesn't have one.

Comments about Pioneer DV-610AVS Multi-System DVD Player (110 - 220V):
I am not the most tech savvy person by any means, and therefore was bit nervous about how this product would work out. I simply took it out of the box, connected the cables, and it was up and running within 10 minutes. I am a big fan of British shows, but many of them are not available in the U.S. DVD Region 1 format, so this was a godsend. I am now able to view any DVDs I purchase from the UK., as well as my U.S. DVDs. The picture quality is excellent and as it also plays CDs and can be used for slideshows with your computer or camera, I can look forward to that. I have had it for less than a week, and haven't tried the other functions, so I hesitate to give it an unqualified recommendation just yet, but for my main purpose, it is just great.

We have a lot of British sitcom DVD's and needed a PAL and NTSC player. So far it works great on French, British and USA DVD's. As usual B&H had great price and shipped it quickly.

Arrived in fine condition. Took it out of the box, hooked it to my HDMI cable, popped in a disc and watched. While it may not play .mov format, so far it has played everything else I've tried. The USB port is conveniently located and also works well. The best overall non-blu-ray player I've ever had! Strongly recommend this to anyone that plays multi-format DVD files.

Nice unit at a decent price. Works well... no problems at all. Plays my SACD Multichannel, 5.1 Dolby Surround discs and movies. I wanted a unit with RCA audio outputs and this had it... not too common these days.

We moved to usa from uk, and have a huge collection of dvds,
particularly the bbc science stuff in boxed sets, and all the kids
cartoons and movies. This unit was just plug and play, the kids
could watch all their favourite stuff great. Also bought one
for my father in law who served in Japan, he has Japanese dvds
that he's now able to watch, Brilliant!

I bought this specifically for high resolution music. It can play both DVD-A and SACD. You haven't lived until you've heard Dark Side of the Moon in high rez. It's a great player, and for the price you can't go wrong.

Comments about Pioneer DV-610AVS Multi-System DVD Player (110 - 220V):
I bought this player to play DVD-A and SACD. The Alan Parsons Dark Side of the Moon Mix, to be specific. The DV-610AVS Multi-System DVD Player by Pioneer is great. It was easy to set up and doesn't disappoint. There's nothing fancy about it...it just does what it's advertised to do. For this price, it was an easy decision. I've already added Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road in DVD-A, and I'm loving the format. Just be sure to get an HDMI cable to go with it.

Comments about Pioneer DV-610AVS Multi-System DVD Player (110 - 220V):
Further to my review below, I found that you can get the desired 4:3 behaviour if you choose the TV screen as "16:9 Compressed" instead of "16:9 Widescreen". It will then switch between 4:3 and 16:9 as appropriate to the content. The manual was not clear, but experience shows this to be true. This makes it better than ever! I would not be parted from this machine.

Comments about Pioneer DV-610AVS Multi-System DVD Player (110 - 220V):
So far very pleased with the quality and the ease of use! Sends and plays Dolby Digital 5.1 through my BOSE Lifestyle 28 unit flawlessly! DVDs from the 1990s play in much more detail on my Sony 52" now! However I'm still waiting for the region 2 british detective DVDs discs I have ordered, and if they play as Pioneer advertised, then my satisfaction will be complete. My only disapointment was when I phoned and e-mailed Pioneer tech support to ask about the best digital sound conections they refused to help because they said "this unit was not made for sale in the USA"?

Played U.S. DVDs fine. Did not want to play PAL DVDs, even with 0 region. The PAL movies would be grey, with white bars and no sound. Returned it and very disappointed.
