The technology inside the headphones listens to your environment, and then reduces it by over 85%, making jet engines and other constant noises fade away.
A passive listening mode is available, allowing you to listen to music without the noise cancellation feature if the battery runs out. The headphones feature swivel earcups and a foldable design, allowing you to carry them easily for travel. A dual-plug airplane adapter is included for connecting to in-flight entertainment systems.

My wife and I each purchased these earphones prior to a trip to Germany after they were recommended by friends. The earphones functioned well for use with the airline movies using the twin jack plug as well as with iPods using the single jack plug. The earphones provide good noise canceling. The single drawback is the uncomfortable connecting piece that goes across the top of your head. I have a pair of Sony MDR-7506 studio monitor earphones that have a well padded connector that is very comfortable. Overall, the earphones are an excellent alternative to pricier noise canceling earphones.

The sound quality is pretty low (in both quality and sound) without the noise cancellation. When on, the sound and quality improves but you hear a hissing sound. My guess it's the noise cancellation that makes that hissing. As for the actual cancellation, I was expecting better. However, I'm not using this in an airplane. I use them at home every day so I don't have to hear teenagers and their stupidities. And I must say, I don't have to increase the volume to an unhealthy level to block voices, which is great. But they're so bulky. It gets pretty uncomfortable in the beginning (for 20 minutes), then you get used to them for a while, but then, after a few hours, you just want to take them off!By the way, about the volume, these seem to need more power to get to a good level. On my old, normal headphones, I only needed 33% volume for normal hearing level. On these, it needs to need 50%+ and with the noise cancellation on, to get to normal level of sound.Still, the price here at B&H is the best. I've never bought here before, but thanks to Google, I found the best price. [...]

I can't complain about the sound, these are realy nice. These H.Phones are two parts held together by a screw in the center of the strap which sits on the top of my head and digs into my skull, and as I'm adjusting them the space opens and closes catching what lttle hair I have left.I got these as a gift and not on B&H web site but I did go to the NC7's and enlarge them and I can see where the plastic head phone strap was put together in the center.

Comments about Sony MDR-NC7 Noise-Cancelling Stereo Headphones (Black):
These sound awful. Really. If you want decent quality sound, get something else. My over ear headphones for about the same price are more comfortable and reduce noise BETTER than these, and sould a lot better. I think I will throw these away or give them to my dog for a chew toy. Yes, they're that bad.

We use these headphones in the sound booth at a church. They are comfortable, clear, and have a decent dynamic range. They're not as good as some of the super-expensive models I've listened to, but they are definitely a great product for the price.

Bought these to use while traveling with my Ipad. Really good sound and function for the money. I thought about buying the Bose or the Dr. Dre Beats but could not see parting with that type of money. The noise canceling feature works well. The price was right and they are very comfortable for long trips to ware. I would recommend.

these won't block all of the backround sounds, but do the job well enough that I can hear every note it plays.

I use my new (3 days) 'phones for listening at my laptop (mostly radio). Don't really care about the NC feature, but do care about comfort and decent reproduction, which are good selling points for this set. Base reproduction is good but other curmudgeons like me will be glad to hear it's kept in its place, and midrange comes through very nicely. These are WAY more comfortable than other over-the-ear 'phones I've used for casual listening in the past.
Not high end but if you need that better plan on spending five times as much!

To listen to books on tape and music.
Very good sound proofing capability even without use of noise cancelling feature.
Uncomfortable due to earphones being a bit too tight. There is no way to adjust.

I bought them to help my fiancee through what will be a long flight to Hawaii coming very soon. We did a quick test and plugged the headset into the sony dvd player which I also purchased from b&h. We played the dvd and tested the noise cancelling ... all seemed to work.

When I got these I was expecting noise cancelling headphones, and this are really not. They do a regular job cancelling low frecuencies, but they are not noise cancelling at other frecuencies.
These are great regular phones anyway, so if you are looking for some nice sound these will do, but noise cancelling is not good at all.

Remarkable sound reduction at a great price. I wish these had hit the market before I paid much more for the same quality.

When these type of headphones first came out, they were expensive. Now, what a deal. I got these to wear while cutting grass on my loud riding mower. I am impressed. These really lower the loud low end rumble of my mower. When I tried regular headphones, I had to turn the volume up so loud it was painful. But these are great for my application.
