The Epoque EHD-800Ai is really a kit that includes the Epoque housing rated to a depth of 150' (45 m) combined with the Epoque inner camera. The fine 1/2.5" CMOS chip has an effective image quality of 8 mega-pixels, producing files for large detailed prints. The camera is equipped with a large, bright 2.4" LCD monitor. This makes composition, replay, and adjustment easy on the eyes.
The optical zoom lens has a 35mm equivalent of 36mm to 108mm. The port has a 55mm thread; 55mm wide-angle and close-up lenses can be used. The use of a wide-angle lens allows you to get closer to your subject. This eliminates water between you and your subject, increasing contrast and improving color. The wide angle conversion lens can be attached and removed when underwater.
For optimum lighting underwater an optional external strobe is recommended. Epoque strobes are brighter, recycle faster and offer wider coverage than the camera's flash. Being farther from the camera lens, the strobe reduces the illumination of particles in the water which helps eliminate backscatter.
The Epoque EHD-800Ai housing allows access to all camera functions underwater. The camera is easy to use even for the novice. The camera is part of a system that will nurture your creativity and allow expansion of your underwater photo skills.

Comments about Epoque EHD-800Ai UW Digital Camera:
I bought this camera at the last minute before our first scuba diving vacation. [...] We went up to 50+ feet deep and the camera remained completely dry and and was easy to operate. I read and followed care instructions completely. The only complaint was the manual print was very small and hard to read. I could tell it was written by someone who was not fluent in English.I am looking forward to taking an underwater photography class. It was very easy to use inside the housing and out.CherieSpringfield, OH

Comments about Epoque EHD-800Ai UW Digital Camera:
Got this camera at the last minute for a dive trip. (The SeaLife camera we wanted was out of stock).
The camera is a generic cheapie that is not well adapted for underwater use. It has no specialized W/B, or scene settings to work underwater, just the usual sort of dry land settings you would expect from a no-name camera. (portrait, auto, landscape, etc.). For the size of the camera, the housing is rather heavy & cumbersome. It is functional in that it is watertight, and the buttons push through correctly.
It's unfortunate that the manufacturer chose to build what is a reasonably robust housing specifically around a forgettable camera.
