The Genus Shooter Backpack (Black) is a German designed 1680 denier ballistic nylon backpack with 5 additional layers of protection designed to carry and protect a camcorder, batteries, lens, small lights, tapes and other accessories. It has detachable padded dividers, removable interiors. There are four extra long dome feet on the bottom of the bag to reduce drag and friction, and the bottom is made from heavy-duty 1800 denier nylon. A waterproof raincover protects the bag against bad weather conditions and can be stored in its own zipper pocket on the underside of the bag.
The Shooter has three compartments. The main compartment comes with 9 detachable padded dividers in 4 different sizes and 2 long straps. It can be expanded by another 2.75" (7.0cm). The middle compartment is designed to hold a laptop computer with a screen up to 15", paperwork and books. The front compartment is made to hold personal items such as: wallet, credit cards, passport, pens, keys, etc. The three compartments have lockable zip tabs. There are side pockets with clasp straps to hold lightweight tripods or stands. The backpack also has partial elasticized mesh pockets on each side and coin/card pockets on the waist belt. There is a detachable phone pouch large enough to fit wide phones.
The backpack can be carried by a wide soft handle or a backpack harness with adjustable shoulder straps. There are carabiner hooks that clip onto the shoulder straps to give better support and balance. They have been rigorously tested to hold up to 150 lbs (68kg) per hook. It has a comfortable waist belt with durable clasps and an expandable chest strap has built-in elasticized strap to ease chest constriction.

After an exhaustive search for a backpack to store my Canon XH-A1, tripod, mics, wires, batteries, tapes and other assorted gear, making my entire taping kit available on a moments notice, I found the Shooter Backpack by Genus.I should start my review with this warning: This backpack system is HUGE. At it's minimum depth, the pack will extend nearly a foot behind you, and completely unloaded the bag alone weighs eleven pounds. The means the bag I am carrying my camcorder in weights more then twice the camera itself. With batteries. Add my gear and my Manfroto tripod with it's absurdly heavy Gitzo fluid head and I end up with almost thirty pounds on my shoulders.Fortunately, the Shooter has an excellent system of straps, clips and pulls that evenly distribute it's bulk across your back and shoulders. I find I can wear a fully loaded pack for an hour without too much discomfort, even with the unbalancing weight of a tripod in the side holster. Without the tripod, I can shoulder it for as long as my legs will last.Every part of the bag, from the solid, padded handle to the zippers and fabric is quality. Every pair of zippers has a button clasp that latches them together to ensure they won't slip open. Four large, round feet keep the bag up off the ground and give it excellent stability when standing upright. The included rain cover is attached to the bottom of he bag with a thick elastic panel, and is easy to refold and repack. The interiors compartments are roomy and easy to arrange, aside from the three center columns. Here you are limited to evenly spaced sections or removing a divider all together, leaving one large, empty space and one narrow one. With the side strap mounted on my camera, it is a tight squeeze into the middle of the bag, bowing out the dividers on either side. But it also means my camera won't bounce around, which is a plus. The two smaller compartments on the front of the bag are equally well proportioned. The one designed to house your laptop is heavily padded and roomy enough to fit my 3rd Generation Macbook Pro in a very snug embrace. The smallest of the compartments holds the usual snaps, hooks and pockets to organize pens, keys, business cards and the like, and is made from a light gray fabric that feels both smooth and durable.Every other bag I saw that was comparable with the Shooter was at least $70 more expensive,[...] perfect bag for my needs.

It is a large bag to carry or transport significant photo and video essential. A bit heavy especially as you load it up with gear!

I was really unsure if it would be better to have a bag or backpack and I'm SO happy that I went with this. It's large and has pockets for everything. There is plenty of padding to keep everything safe, too. I love all of the pockets for stashing everything you can think of. There's also a built in waterproof cover which I didn't remember reading about but is a nice feature. All of the zippers lock (snap) together as well. I would 100% buy this again--love it!

It holds:
- 1 medium size camcorder
- 1 shotgun mic
- 1 shoulder mount
- 3 chargers + cables
- duct tapes
- overhead headphones
It has: rain cover, tons of separators
Look and feel of the bag scream quality.
Might be a bit bulky for some. However, with the amount of protection it can give you, I'm not complaining.
Remove the back cover and it becomes a back pack.
It looks small enough you can bring it on the plan.

Comments about Genus Shooter Backpack:
So I've read in other reviews that this bag is big, bulky and heavy...it's true it is. But you know what? It holds everything I need and more! I have my Sony AX-2000,17" laptop, batteries, battery charger, 50' of xlr cable, a clapboard, shotgun mic, and boom pole and tripod on either side! The camera is safe in a little compartment I was able to customize with the removable inserts, and the bag is built like a well made tank. The zippers all have waterproof linings, and there is even a rain poncho for the bag, tucked away in a little compartment on the bottom. It can be used as a bagpack, or you can zip a cover over the shoulder straps that neatly hide all loose ends and it becomes a piece of luggage. I like this bag, it's well built and feels like it will last. The quality is great. If you work by yourself and need to fit a lot of gear in a space you can make mobile, and feel peace of mind that it will all be safe and sound when you open it up, this is the bag for you.

Others say the bag is big or bulky, but I really don't see it as cumbersome. I wear it as a backpack and it only feels heavy than say a normal bookbag, but that is do to all the equipment you can fit in it. I put my Sony FX7 and my Sony a55 inside, and still had room for my light, cables, fisheye lens for the FX7, filters, tapes, extra batteries, and there is still more room in this bag.

I purchased this bag to use with my Sony FX-1000 camcorder for day shoots in New York.
Things that are great about it:
Plenty of room and pockets for all that you need.
Ample computer section
Lots of padding, will definitely keep camera safe.
Things that aren't so great abou it:
As other reviewers have mentioned, this bag is big. To put it in perspective it feel about the size of a roller carry on. To wear it as a backpack will be a little cumbersome but possible.
Despite that, I would definitely buy it again.

I use this pack to store all of my video equipment while traveling and shooting documentaries. I can store nearly all of my gear into this one backpack. It's many compartments all come in handy. The makers have really thought of everything when designing this pack. For those one-man-band filmmakers, this pack is a must have.

i use it carry my sony hvr z5p camera along with my nikon slr camera gear. there is enough place to also carry both chargers, tapes and an additional lenses too.
the great thing about this product is that its spacious and well built. cameras are safe inside, no chances of getting damaged incase the bag knocks against something hard (like a rock especially if you are going on trek).
i have to still carry it in a domestic flight only then will know whether it comfortably fits into my cabin box above my seat. if no then that's a sure drawback.

Comments about Genus Shooter Backpack:
I'm very impressed with this backpack.
The build quality is excellent, it feels solid in your hand, like it's built to last.
It's design and features come across as very well thought out.
It's comfortable to wear and there are adjustable straps.
There is a lot of room for storage so most likely this will hold all the gear you would need on any trip. It also has a place for a 15" laptop as well, which helps to review and edit your shots that day.
There are TONS of features on this bag just waiting to be discovered.
The one downside to all this is that this bag is a bit on the heavy side and is fairly bulky, but it's still comfortable enough to use. For all this space you can't really expect it to be small. This backpack was designed to be big.
I'd definitely recommend this to a friend to buy, I'm very happy with it!

I do video and photogrpahy and I can fit EVERYTHING into this bag: memory cards, lights, video camera, SLR camera, two lenses, shotgun mic, chargers, cables, laptop, and all the extras. It really well made and very sturdy. It does have some weight to it but for as long as I have had it, they seem to have distributed the weight pretty well and its not very taxing on the back especially considering how much it holds. I would HIGHLY recommend this backpack.

This bag is amazing! YES you can check it onto a flight , and YES it will hold a whoooole lotta gear.
I had carried an entire glideCam4000 , a full RedRock Micro Soulder Mount kit, 7D Body, 5 Lenses, 4 Batteries, a 15 Inch MacBook, Charger, Memory Cards, Filters. . . You get the idea. Virtually EVERYTHING I needed for a full days shoot fit in the bag.
Its SUPER durable, I believe its ballistic nylon, and built tough. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the price point, if you need something with an enormous payload!

I shoot wedding videos and needed something I could fit my pro cam and DSLR camera in. This bag, while a bit bulky/clunky, has a lot of space and meets my needs well. It's very sturdy and has a lot of flexibility in adjustments to shoulder, waist and chest straps, as well as the internal dividers.

Comments about Genus Shooter Backpack:
As a young videographer, I was looking for a budget camera bag for my stuff. I bought this looking to transport my PMW-EX1r (among other things) and I'm glad I bought this! I've recently used this to transport gear while walking all day in a foot and a half of snow recording hunting & nature footage. Although it was tiring work, (between the weight of the gear and the snow) there were no strains on my back or body at the end of the day. This bag is well padded, and has a series of straps that (when used properly) keeps my posture in line. It also has enough compartments/zippers/straps that kept me entertained for hours! This bag easily holds everything I need for documentary-style shooting.
When I first got this, I was surprised to find that a handy, cover-all rain slicker was included. I was not aware of this when I bought it, but I'm glad it's there. It's every independent videogrpher's worst nightmare: you're out in the middle of the field (with the car miles away) and the rain starts pouring down on your 1000s of $$$ of gear. Not only is the rain slicker included, but it's designed to roll up and go in a compartment where it provides lombar support. What a great little (well, not THAT little) bag!
The bag fits my mid-sized camera great, with plenty of room for accessories. The main compartment has plenty of customizeable configurations that will keep your gear in line. The velcro is strong, so the compartments won't break apart or change positions on you.
Bottom line: GREAT camera bag, even better BUDGET camera bag!
