I use the 547B for videography in my studio and out in the field. The legs are versitile enough to set up and adjust on the most uneven stairs or in a muddy field (true stories). The spreader is useful for quick deployment and support, but easily detatchable for fine tuning leg placements if needed. Although its great to throw in the backseat of my car for location shoots, I'm not going to pack it for a backwoods nature shoot because it could get heavy fast.

I got this with the 501HDV head and I'm very happy with both the tripod and head. I'm using a Panasonic DVX100B and this tripod is perfect for cameras of this size. It is sturdy and absolutely stable and vibration free. I was kind of concerned because of the small tubing diameter, but the tripod legs are rock solid.
Also, having the head mount in the bowl makes leveling the head extremely easy--all you have to do is loosen the center lock attached to the head and level with the spirit level.
The tripod collapses to a very compact size. I got it with a special offer that included a Manfrotto soft case which is great since it is small enough to check as regular (not oversized) luggage.
