The short power cable is indispensable when using a Turbo on-camera battery attached to the tripod socket of the camera. There's nothing wrong with the supplied long cable, except that it's too long. NOTE: the short cable works very well on a flash bracket setup as well, with Turbo battery attached to the camera, both attached to the bracket, and the Quantum flash unit (I use Trio) attached above the camera using a flash extension cable such as a Canon OC-E3. In the situation in which there are two cables involved...flash extension and flash-unit power...the short power cable is necessary.
