The Giottos MTL 9271B Tripod is a professional's size 3-section aluminum model, made for use with larger and heavier professional camera setups. It shares much of the unique feature set that is inherent in Giotto's MTL class of aluminum models of various sizes. With 31/28/25mm segments, the MTL 9271B is made for use with flagship professional SLR cameras and large 'fast' telephoto lenses, such as a 300mm f/2.8 lens. The MTL 9271B has simple and easy to operate flip lever style locks.
There's not too much in the world of tripods that Giottos doesn't think to incorporate into their best models such as this MTL 9271B. It has foam padded upper segments, a bubble level right at the neck of the unit, flip-lock levers which can be attended to in the field if needed, and an included tool kit which has a special short column attachment that allows an impressive minimum operating height.
The MTL 9271B gives a 5'3" working height, meaning that a 6' tall person will have their SLR's viewfinder at eye level when the legs are fully extended and the column completely retracted. When collapsed it is 28.3", and it weighs under 5 pounds.

Comments about Giottos MTL 9271B 3-Section Aluminum Tripod Legs - Supports 22 lbs (10kg):
This is certainly a tripod I would recommend. The locks for different angles of the legs are a bit on the stiff side, but work great. An additional weight hook on the bottom helps getting the stability you need. Overall a great quality product. [...]. I bought this one because of being made of alloy, but still has the sturdy capabilities of carrying 10kg.

Comments about Giottos MTL 9271B 3-Section Aluminum Tripod Legs - Supports 22 lbs (10kg):
I have owned and used this tripod for the past few months and have been extremely happy with it. The weight is not light, nor heavy to be honest. It is about middle of the road as far as weight goes. Most of the weight comes from the ability of this tripod to reach taller heights required by taller photographers, which include extra materials for longer more robust legs. Myself, I am 6'7" tall and needed a tall tripod to use. This has no problem scaling over my own head at max height, and still remains stable. Build is very good with this tripod! The quick release levers are miles better than the twist-n-lock varieties and make it a joy to use. The tripod also has 3-various degrees of leg adjustment, altering the footprint of the legs. At the widest setting, you can get this tripod quite low to the ground very easily! Very versatile.
For those looking for a very lightweight easy to carry tripod, this one may not be for you. It still has quite a bit of heft to it although it really is not that bad. Carrying it around an hour or two though may get tiring. It is perfect for somebody who needs one when the moment comes up though, and not necessarily using it to trek through the wilderness all day.
I use a Manfrotto 496RC2 Head along with this tripod and the combo works really well together. It has NO problem what-so-ever supporting my 7D with my heaviest lens combo, a 300L f/4 IS + 1.4x TC and a Speedlite 430EX II. I really enjoy this tripod and hope to give it a little more use more often. I do not use it much, but it is a pleasure to use when I do.
I highly recommend this tripod for anybody who needs height on a tripod along with durability. With any additional head on, this tripod would have NO problem giving somebody 7' tall perfectly positioned viewfinders! Giottos makes incredible stuff, and I highly recommend them!

Comments about Giottos MTL 9271B 3-Section Aluminum Tripod Legs - Supports 22 lbs (10kg):
Originally, I was a bit worried about trying this tripod as there are little to no reviews on it. However, being so pleased with a Giottos monopod I got a few weeks ago, I decided to give it a try with high hopes.
Construction is very stable with excellent overall quality. I am 6'7" so I need a tall tripod. I was surprised to see that I do not even have to extend the vertical tube to get the viewfinder to my eye with a added head on the tripod, it is plenty tall!
The tripod feels very solid with smooth working fasteners. It is quick and easy to extend and retract the legs with the nice flip levers. The 3-angle leg adjustment is very nice, with the ability to get very low to the ground.
Weight wise, it is not lighter or heavier than I expected. I do not carry it everywhere with me, but will have no trouble carrying it around when I do.
I highly recommend this tripod. It is high quality, tall and very stable. It should last a very long time!
