I've had my wax-wear F803 for a year now and it is my everyday bag. I keep my Leica d-lux 4 safely in the padded section and everything else for life goes in the other pockets. The bag has aged well. No structural problems at all although the beige straps are looking pretty dirty (I travel a lot and cycle with it). If I could change anything about this bag, it would be to add an inch to the width so an A4 book would fit in back slash pocket and make the two zippered flap pockets just a little roomier so my iphone would fit comfortably. I've never figured out what the 2 side clips are for but they look good.
Overall I love the bag. It's not flashy and its waterproof and sits well on my shoulder. I'll buy another one when and if this baby wears out.

While this bag looks great in terms of color, I hated the Waxwear finish. It rubs off on your hands when you touch it and also when you put something in the back slot such as a book or folder, the wax rubs on that. And if you put something that is rubber there, it will ruin that. I put my Apple iPad there with the Apple iPad case, which is black rubber and the wax rubbed against that and ruined it for good. The inside of the is back does not have the Waxwear finish so you don't have to worry about your equipment there however all of the pockets do have the wax and it can indeed rub off on whatever you place there. [...] got a standard canvas one of the same model and am much happier with that.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
i needed a bag to carry a leica m9-p and a couple of lenses plus accessories. the f-803 with the fa-230 insert answers all my needs. it holds the leica with either the 50 'cron or the 35 'lux attached; each of the other two compartments holds two lenses with stacked rear lens caps (glued together). the front cargo pockets are roomy enough for a sf-58 flash i.e. they are big.
i've had other camera bags before, but none that were as small and inconspicuous on the outside and yet so roomy inside. the padding is good enough (don't drop your camera bag!) and the f-803 can be carried messenger bag-style.
two things that i'd like to see improved:
- the clip on the front plap is a bit cumbersome to open with one hand
- the front flap leaves a small gap left and right where rain can reach the camera compartment. the flap should be made a little bigger.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
Became very tired of using big, clumsy photo bags. The F-803 is a perfect size for the Leica M9 with a 35mm Summarit mounted plus two other Leica lenses and even a Micro 4/3. Need the insert however for extra padding.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
My 30 year-old Nikon bag was worn out and I needed a replacement that could hold an IPad was well as some gear. I am just able to fit my camera (Nikon D300) with lens attached (Nikkor 28-35 Zoom), and additional lens (105 mm Macro Nikkor) and 2 Nikon remote speedlights (SB-R200) with bases in the main compartment. The back pocket is perfect for an IPad. Extra batteries and other small items can fit in one of four additional pockets.
One of the drawbacks to my Nikon bag was that the strap was constantly slipping on my shoulder. This bag has two strips of rubber that are embedded into the underside of the strap that keeps the bag from slipping. That feature and the quality of construction is why I gave this bag 5 stars. I also appreciate the fact that this bag looks like a satchel and not a traditional camera bag.
The only feature I did not like was the front clasp for the main flap takes two hands to open. However, this is such a small annoyance that I still believe the bag deserves 5 stars.

I wanted a bag that didn't scream camera for many reasons.
I had to have a bit of faith in the reviews to buy it on line and from B&H( first time shopper) as they are not sold in New Zealand.
My Leica m9p fits neat and doesn't draw unwanted attention, mission accomplished.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
This bag is slim, and has just enough features to protect your camera, and enough space for all the little things you need to Cary when traveling, and taking a lot of pictures.
That being said, you can't throw the bag around and expect it to prevent damage!
I easily modified the inner removable sleeve to let my camera sit into the bag a bit more with the lens attached (holster style)
Overall this bag excells at looking sharp, without screaming camera bag. It also is small enough to Cary all day while traveling without looking like a purse, which is a huge plus!!
Just don't get this bag if your primary concern is protection.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
I bought the Domke satchel for carrying basic equipment - camera, lens, small attachments - for a trip to France. The Domke is a good-looking bag with no logo. Well made, the bag has adequate room for my DSLR with a padded compartment for an extra lens. The compartment is moveable, reattaching by Velcro. Two small pockets in front carry filters, SD cards, etc. A slot pocket on the back carries an iPad or Kindle. I added a layer of closed cell foam to the bottom for extra protection.
The overflap attaches with a snap hook that requires two hands to open - a nuisance at best. It may have a security advantage in that a thief cannot easily snatch something from the bag. But I would trade a little security for more ease of access. The alternative is to leave the flap unsnapped, which has obvious problems.
The price of the bag makes it a splurge for me. Surely a bag of comparable quality and features could be sold for less - but I didn't find one in the time I had available.
As usual, B&H shipping was quick and sure.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
I use this bag to commute nearly everyday. The size is perfect. Construction is solid. Great finish. The handle stiffener keeps the bag from losing its shape when carrying by the handle.
I stash an ipad in the back pocket, but be wary when it is raining.
I simply remove the lens sleeve inside the main pocket if I am carrying a MacBook.
This bag keeps me organized and my gear safe. It is not overly padded. I love the look of it.
The Domke F-900 pouch works great with it.

I had been looking for a longtime to find the perfect bag to wear while out walking around photographing. I had tried Lowepro and crumpler and just couldn't find something I liked. I came across a couple reviews of this bag and tried it out.
I am so happy with the purchase. It is light, looks great and best of all looks nothing like a camera bag. I also got the 3 piece insert and shoulder pad and can comfortably wear this bag all day.
Would recommend this bag to anyone.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
This bag is simple, but does the job perfectly. It seems to be set up to carry an SLR with zoom attached, plus two large zooms or a zoom and a large flash. I use it to carry one Leica M body with lens, as well as a Holga body and some miscellaneous stuff, and it is more than big enough.
There are two very versatile pouches on the front under the main flap, which I use to carry film, filters and a light meter. The bag also has two smaller pouches on the front of the main flap which zip closed, and are nice for storing things like lens cloths, headphones, memory cards, etc. It's not the most heavily padded bag in the world, but it's definitely sufficient and helps keep the weight down. I also haven't had any issues with the waxed canvas scratching.
The main flap opens silently since there's no velcro, but you do have to open the clip on the front, which sometimes takes two hands, so that's occasionally annoying. The strap has some grippy rubber material on the underside, which is nice in that it keeps the bag from slipping off your shoulder. However, it also tends to pull on one's shirt in weird ways. Those are really my only gripes, and they're minor. It's a great bag and I'd definitely buy it again.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
Just got back from 8 days in Europe. I bought this bag especially for this trip to carry minimal gear in a "non-camera-bag" looking bag. This was perfect. It held my Canon 40D w/17-85 lens + 70-200 lens + 580EX flash, with room for a couple extra batteries, subway and city maps, my wallet and other misc. items. I love the Waxwear fabric--looks really cool. The zippers and clip closure make it secure in a crowd. Of course it is not for a photo shoot when you need lots of gear, but it is one of the best choices I ever made.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
Man this bag rocks. I have been downsizing everything, sold my 1DS3 and heavy L's and picked up a Leica M8 and M9 and a couple of lenses. The 803 fits both my Leicas with Lenses attached (laying flat lenses pointed up) I was formerly carrying a LowePro Commercial or sometimes my Crumpler "Brazillian Dollar Home", also a very cool bag. They are both just too big. I am tired of carrying loads of stuff and want to simplify. The 803 is perfect, feels like a million bucks and my expensive Leicas are not screaming 'steal me'. I did have to customize the padding to accomodate my setup. I had lots of LowePro and crumpler dividers in order to achieve that. Very highly recommended.

I use the bag with an Leica M8 and 4 lenses. Sometimes I even carry with me an Olympus zx-1 and an old Nikon dx28 flash unit also.
The bag is ideal for this kind of equipment because it do not look like a camera bag, it "folds" itself around the hip and is easy to carry.
I have been looking for a bag that has this quality feel, looks like this and has in just enough padding for a long time.
If I just need a god looking bag I can even take out the insert and then I have a good looking little bag that friends envy me because the quality and the looks of it.

a perfect descrete bag for your little camera gems! After being a great fan of black cordura bags from other manufacturers, I have chosen this product for carrying my small street-shooters. With the optional insert you get a great protection for your gear, and the wax finish adds the 'worn look' shortly.

Great little bag, It was smaler then expected but now I start to love it. Don't look too expensive, hide whats in it. I fit a Nikon D300 house with 17-55/f2.8 in it and also bring a 35/f1.8 and 85/1.8, don't look like that stuff is in it. Great fabric, well made and high quality. It also fit a Macbook Pro 15", but then I have to take the camera house in my hand.

Great bag for casual use with 1-2 lens with accessories. I use it with my D3100 with 18-105 lens and I can fit my D7000 with 17-55 lens attached with the other partition set to smaller.
It's really nice and hardly noticed as a camera bag due to its slimmer design and the rugged feel.

Comments about Domke F-803 Waxwear Camera Satchel Shoulder Bag:
I own several Domke bags, so I already knew what to expect in terms of quality and construction. The best! My other bags are all Sand Canvas. This time I opted for the Waxwear version for a newly acquired Lumix GH-2 with 14-140, 100-300 and the Lumix 20,1.7 lenses. They fit perfectly with enough room left over for my favorite OLY 50mm macro f2 on a micro 4/3 coverter, and there is still room for a dedicated flash. I can't believe how compact and organized everything feels compared to my Olympus SLR system that feels like a 40 pound duffel bag. And I think the Waxwear will offer better wear and weather protection the the canvas has..and that has been pretty darn good.
