Manfrotto 055CXV3 View Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs (Black)
The Bogen/Manfrotto 055CXV3 View Carbon Fiber Tripod Legs is a special version of the 055CX3 tripod with the features most commonly requested by birders and nature photographers. In contrast to the standard 055CX3 model, this model doesn't have the split center column, but does have leg warmers which make carrying the tripod around more convenient in extreme weather conditions or after a full day out in the cold.
Thanks to innovative production techniques - which allow for high quality 100% carbon tube structures - the 055CX series guarantees a higher load capacity and an increased height with a lighter overall weight (-20%) thanks to a completely new design, which allowed to lighten the components.

No play at all, even with a gimbal mount and 10 lbs. of camera and lens on the top. Not the most compact when closed, but weight is reasonable. The triangular column (eliminating column rotation) and three set screws on the plate (locking the attached head) are really nice features. The only questionable design decision is the fact that this tripod comes with two (not three) leg warmers -- an irritant, not a dealbreaker.

Have only had a limited amount of time to use tripod so far.
But it is easy to set up and use, light weight and convenient. Only draw back is the price but with $3-5k or more sitting on top no reason to skimp on the foundation holding it all up.

I'm a hunter at times I will move to different locations quit often. I am 5'8" tall so this tripod is easy to setup and take down without raising the center collum. It also very stable if the wind is blowing.

The tripod is a god send......I generally use manfrotto's largest tripod on jobs, but shooting editorial automotive images I need flexibility inside the vehicle, I needed a smaller tripod, had to be very strong and be able to squeeze into tight spaces......this tripod is just the thing! At first it looked so small almost flimsy, I thought it would be smashed in the first 5 minutes, but the carbon fibre is so strong, it equals in strength my other manfrotto......which is 3 times the size! I shoot mostly wild life with 75 percent being birds, with my Canon 1dMark111 camera, mostly handheld. I needed a easily manuverable tripod support for my heavier lens, a canon 300 f2.8. This lens and camera, is a hefty load handheld.
I purchased a Wimberely Head Version 11 and attached to this Tripod, with camera and lens mounted,its a well performing combination. Support is stable and secure.
