Everyone talks about D3X, especially about its price. Well, all I can say is this: if you really are a pro it will pay you back. I pair it with 24mm PC Nikkor, set it to 5:4 ratio and I get architecture shots that would satisfy many large format die-hards. Set it back to FX, pair it with a wide angle lens, and you have a serious work horse for low light photojournalism. Try it in portraiture and you will be amazed at the quality, detail and excellent skin tones. It also has a very pleasant film like grain at 1250-1600 ISO. D3X feels right in your hand, which also transforms into handheld 1/8 without any problems. White balance is decent, way over average in most cases. Jpegs are big enough for most uses and if you need more resolution, check out the detail in 14 bit RAW uncompressed - it's stunning. Generally a very rewarding all round camera with lots of pixel power, but let's make it clear, it's a pro body and is priced like one so if you think an $8000 camera is going to make your hoilday snaps better, think twice and buy a D700, put more RAM in your computer, and enjoy the same for less, because at the end of the next year D3X will be a history in this ever high paced race for pixel power. There's some drawbacks, like enlarge in preview, lack of sensor cleaning, no HD video, or...yeah, the price, [...]

I have just completed an overseas shoot in China and have shot about 6,000 images with both the d3x and d3 and can share some thoughts. Overall I found the d3 much more flexible and versatile mainly because its iso capability surpasses the d3x in every aspect even beggining at 1200 .I found the d3x useful only in about a dozen shots out of those thousands when both were in similiar circumstances and those shots were at 24 m pixels. I regret purchasing this camera for 8k and believe that a more correct price is about 2,800 -3,000 especially in view of the new canon 5d mkii.

Comments about Nikon D3x SLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

After a 6+ mo. wait I finally received my D3x. It's truly an amazing machine. I've only been shooting with a few weeks, but the differences between this body and my D700 are substantial. If you're a professional nature/landscape/commerical photographer, this is the camera body for you.

Comments about Nikon D3x SLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

A Must have piece of equipment! Until I was regularly shooting with the D3X I didn't know what it was like to be able to do anything I want with a single camera. I've owned Canon's and still shoot with Leaf H-Aptus Systems but This camera is the only one I need. Spectacular Image detail, spot on color, fast, ergonomically brilliant, impressive resolution, 250th Flash sync, creative lighting system, shooting in all kinds of weather without cringing, ISO 1600 low light capability, ISO 100 incredible image detail, dual CF cards, simple tethered capability with PhaseOne & NIKON software...YIKKKKES I"m running out of space here! The only problem is once you have this camera you have no excuses for not getting the shot!

Comments about Nikon D3x SLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

The most powerful machine in the world.... this delivers sharp, well focused images, there is no point to have 10fps if you are going to throw most of the images away because they a re blured as it happens with 5D Mark II, yes, cheap price, but cheap results. As for this, is worth the price you pay for what you get ! If you consider your self a professional, dont hesitate on gear !

I purchased the D3x as a complementary camera to a D3s which I purchased about 4 months previously. I intend to use the D3x primarily for landscapes and use the D3s for sports, wildlife and or any situation that has challenging lighting conditions. The D3x produces stunning images with great dynamic range. I really cannot find anything negative to say about the D3x.

I have brought the camera to have something more portable when I travel than the Arca Swiss 4x5 and the Hasselblad 205 TCC without losing resolution. I could not be more pleased with how good the images are and I am very fussy. It is bulky for an SLR but nothing like the other two cameras.

Overall the D3x produces image quality better than anything I have achieved even with 4x5 and laser scanning. It will be interesting to see if frame stitching can totally replace my view camera.

Comments about Nikon D3x SLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

For the past 6 years, I've been using the Fugi S2 Pro body with a few Nikkor lenses. It has served me well, but I've longed for a camera that could use the full capabilities of my lenses. Both the resolution and DX size have "constrained" their potential. How liberating it is now to use these on my new D3X. Although I still haven't reconcilled dipping into my life long savings account, I am quickly becoming addicted to the 24 megapixel capabilities. Sure, 99.9% of my photos will never reveal this degree of detail, but it's sorta like owning a vehicle with a huge engine. I will rarely use the "horse-power" of this resolution, but it's sure nice to know it's there in reserve. With the larger hard drives and storage media available to us, I see no problem is shooting regularly in the highest setting and then downsizing in Photoshop. This way, I can store my images in the highest resolution, and when it comes time to print them out, modify the file to fit the size, printer and end use of that photo. Although I seriously considered the D3s, I was cautious about a camera that took stills and video. Being also a woodworker, I've stayed away from those "all-in-one" tools. Here, I wanted the best still camera in the FX size and I believe this is the best for me. Although it will put one sizeable hole in my savings account... hey... you only live once, right???

Comments about Nikon D3x SLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

As an architectural and fine art photographer I make my living selling clear beautiful images and the Nikon D3x produces those beautifully. While most of my images are shot at basic iso 100 on a tripod with mirror lock up I find I prefer my D3x to my D3 for any iso up to 1600. I have produced a number of 40x60 inch prints of horseraces taken at iso 1600 that show the stitching on the jockey's silks! My only wish is that the focus points were distributed around the exterior of the viewing screen as well as the interior.

Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Weddings. Has produced exceptionally. The one thing I prefer when buying a product is that they concentrate on that product. Nikon doesn't make copiers, printers, calculators, etc. just Photo products and optics.

Picture quality with the added pixels over my D3. Would have been great if the D3x kept the high ISO values of the D3, 6400 vice 1600.

I have jumped from D90 DX format to the most professional choice of D3X FX format. I wanted to progress to the larger format to be able to provide my customer with whatever size product they wanted and to provide them with a quality product.

Comments about Nikon D3x SLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

I recently purchased the D3x after using my D3s for about 6 months. I bought the camera specifically for more detail in my images and the ability to print much larger prints without having to use a third-party software package for pixel interpolation. My intended use for the D3x is in the studio (macro and some portraits), architecture and landscapes. I've done several macro projects now in the studio and a couple outside and the detail and dynamic range is exactly what I was looking for. As I tell others, there is a tool for every job. I use my D3s for my sports, fast-pace wildlife adventures, event projects and any situation that has difficult lighting. I now head out to all of my projects with the D3x and D3s fully loaded and armed to tackle just about anything. In my mind the D3x and D3s are two different tools that are clearly industry leaders as compared to the relevant competition. I was a Canon shooter for 20 years before buying the D3s. Truly the best decision I have ever made. I was a little frustrated with lens availability over the last couple months, but I now finally have all the lenses I need. In closing, if you need a professional tool that is reliable, high resolution, and rugged for your photography projects/adventures then the D3x will not disappoint you I am sure of it.

Have been a user of Nikon camera since the early 70's, having gone thru the film camera era into the digital age. Finally moved up from my D2x, after several years of use, to the D3x. What a great leap forward. Love the higher ISO's, and and the new horizon feature. No compliants so far, and the ease of moving up from the D2x made learning the menu features was quite simple.

Comments about Nikon D3x SLR Digital Camera (Body Only):

Only what I'm missing is still a bit more resolution/details for landscape, maybe only no/user removable low-pass filter (and Foveon-type sensor, no Bayer, 3 x 24,5 Mpix, right;-). Everything another is the best.
