The Olympus DS-5000 Digital Voice Recorder is a professional dictation recording device. Benefit from improved work-flow thanks not only to the functions but the design of the recorder. The DSS Player Pro Software allows for recording directly to your PC and provides other time saving features like auto retrieval of typed documents and instant distribution of recordings through email. DSS Pro also enables better sound quality with QP or Quality Playback mode. The convenient slide switch and navigation buttons are quiet and easy to use, while a password or lock keeps your data safe and secure.
The DS-5000 also comes with a multi-function docking cradle that not only recharges the recorder's Ni-MH battery, but enables hands-free recording and allows for transfer of data to your PC. Compatible recording media includes SD, microSD, or dual memory cards.

Comments about Olympus DS-5000 Digital Voice Recorder:
Have used this now for 3 years. It has been reliable, but starting to show its age. I work it hard indeed, dictate perhaps 20-40 letters per day, and carry it everwhere
It is slow to start up and for me this is a real frustration. I often dictate on the run, and frequently the first few words are missing, as it takes several seconds for it to wake to create a new file if it is off or asleep.
I would buy again, largely because I am fully invested in the Olympus system, transcription kit etc, despite the fact that they produce a weak and limited version of their software for Mac

Very pleased with the product [...] Works with our existing computer system involving 2003 terminal server.

Comments about Olympus DS-5000 Digital Voice Recorder:
Our office has used these for several years, superceding lesser Olympus recorders. These WORK, including the slide switch that is essential for any sort of high volume dictation. The only improvement might be that the reverse could go back a bit further more easily, but perhaps mine has not been adjusted correctly. The files we generate are uploaded, then handled remotely, rough-edited, then returned to use as MS Word files for our final edits.

Comments about Olympus DS-5000 Digital Voice Recorder:
I use this recorder in my law office, along with Dragon Naturally Speaking. It gives me very good voice recognition results. It is not quite as accurate as my headset microphone but it is good enough, and obviously it is more convenient out of the office.
Easy to operate, fairly clear menu options. The screen has conspicuously low resolution and the entire device looks dated, but it does not effect performance.

Comments about Olympus DS-5000 Digital Voice Recorder:
Will be using the recorder for classroom recordings, interview style with an Olympus me-52w noise canceling microphone as well.
1st impression is quality, and ease of use. Very crisp sound reproduction.
The software looks easy to use, and is password protected.
