The UV Protector Filter by Canon is just that, a protector. It is not a UV-Haze filter and will not help cut out that much UV, but it is a clear element in front of your lens that will protect it from scratches and accidents.
It is sort of a cheap construction and feels flimsy, however I have yet to have the element fall out of the ring.
If you are looking for a UV-Haze filter look at the B+W filter instead. But if you just want lens protection, this'll do.

A bit pricy, but I got an off-brand before that wouldn't even screw into my T3i. This one works great!

this filter does what it's supposed to do, cut out the glare and protect your several hundred dollar lens. especially if you shoot on the go in all sorts of environments, this is a must. have several items from B&H, and they always get the product out fast, I've had some shipping notices within hours of ordering.

Comments about Canon 58mm UV Protector Filter:
I typically look for the best value and try to save a few bucks but in this case I stuck with Canon to make sure I had great quality. Glass is one of those things that can make or break a photo. Why put a cheap filter on an expensive lens? Pics are only as strong as the weakest link. Great filter.

Comments about Canon 58mm UV Protector Filter:
I used this with my Canon 50mm f1.4.
I thought I'd be saving a little bit of money by buying this instead of a higher quality UV. I ended up being very wrong. I stupidly bought this and used it the day of for a gig. Every highlight ended up being duplicated rotated 180° and turned green. This is an indication of a bad UV filter. I ended up taking the filter off and just shooting with no protection.
DO NOT TRY TO SAVE MONEY BUYING THIS. Buy a Hoya filter or go to some other alternative. You will regret using this filter!

I ordered an aftermarket version that did not fit my threads for my Canon EOS. Shame on me for not sticking to the Canon brand. This one fit perfect (of course).

A friend recommended that I purchase a filter not only to enhance the photo taking process but to protect my lenses. I have to commend B&H because I first ordered the wrong lens. They handled the exchange and getting me my proper filters in a matter of days. Just another reason I purchase all my camera equipment from B&H Photo!

This is a great way to protect your investment if nothing else. I haven't seen a visible difference in my photographs but the peace of mind that there is a extra layer of protection for my lens is well worth the price.
My budget doesn't allow for replacing lenses

Comments about Canon 58mm UV Protector Filter:
I buy a UV filter at the same time I buy a new lens. Won't use the lens until I can get a UV for it. My 300mm just took a crash, the UV was in splinters, it's ring bent, the 300 hasn't a scratch. UV filters also catch all of the dirt, grit and scratches an unprotected lens would catch over time.
Good, cheap, simple, effective protection, don't leave home without them and always have one in your wallet.

Bought the product more for protection of my lens than the function of the UV protection, but it does both well. If you're looking for a UV filter for a Canon lens I suggest buying a Canon product from B&H.

Easy to get on. Fits well. No nasty flares or distortion. Protected my 50mm 1.2 L-Series from a piece of road rock kicked up by a passing car. Get one as soon as you can.
