Samsung makes two models that are Netflix compatible, and this one was the lesser expensive of the two; the other one offers wireless connectivity. It was a great decision--it downloads movies perfectly with Netflix, and also works with Pandora which I'm enjoying a lot, a system I hadn't even heard of (you create your own music radio stations, and it's all free). Also works with youtube, oddly enough. I'll stick to my computer for that. It also works well with BD Live which I've tried out--although BD Live is amazing technology, I question whether I want to play on-line games with others, or chat with someone in cyberland about some movie I'm watching. Probably will use it to watch the numerous, extra trailers that are offered--BD Live is internet based, and thus the opportunity for so much content.
But back to basics: it does play Blu-ray movies perfectly, and I'm still "wowed" every time I watch one. It seems to also do an admirable job at upscaling standard DVDs. Right out of the box, it automatically offered that I upgrade its firmware, which I did, which worked perfectly. Recently, an on-screen pop-up appeared that said there was a newer firmware update, which I did install. Didn't notice any obvious changes this time--after the first upgrade there were noticeable, major changes.
The remote works very well, but I question the logic of the key layout--I've found it easy to hit a wrong key, which might, for example, start the whole DVD over again and lose its place. Chalk that up to the getting-used-to phase.
I'm a manual reader and it did come with a good, printed manual. No having to download one. Set-up is easy, by the way. You do, of course, need an internet hook-up to it, to use the Netflix and other internet based features such as Pandora, BD Live, and youtube. Setup is to simply run one cable from your router.
I'd have rated it 5-stars, except for the fact that Blu-ray DVDs seem to take an inordinately long time to load and start (perhaps a minute or so, but maybe I'm being unduly harsh here?). Standard DVDs start quickly, however.
Heartily recommend this player which is priced right which can be expected, in my opinion, to fall in price even further. Buy one now, though, to enjoy it soon!
You'll love this player!

I bought the player, mainly, to stream Netflix movies, which it does well. Streaming Pandora is a bonus. However, the sound drops out for a couple of seconds every few minutes, and whe I fast forward of reverse, it is very hard to make the palyer stop when I want.
Then, after 2 months, I put in a DVD I had played before, and the video played, but the sound was off. I put in a Blu Ray disc and it just ejected it. This happened with 2 other Blu Rays as well.
The player is being repaired right now. Hopefully it will come back with no further problems.

I love the touch-sensored buttons, they are so easy to press. This product shows such a clear picture of the movies, and it's so compact it hardly takes up any space at all.

Comments about Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Disc Player:
Does not include a wireless card. It must be purchased in addition to the player for an additional $100.00. Product packaging is deceptive. Does not indicate the need to purchase an adapter to stream netflix, Pandora, etc.

Comments about Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Disc Player:
I am quite happy with the purchase. Here are a few things that would have been helpful to know going in that I either missed from other reviews or weren't there:1. It requires a Samsung wireless adapter if you plan on using your wireless network to access the online features. This might be obvious to most people, but I didn't realize it until I started setting it up. Had to make a quick trip to [...] and drop $80!!!! for the LAN adapter. Probably could have found it for cheaper, but I was anxious to get it set up.2. It does have access to Youtube. I didn't see it in the product description, but it does.3. It really wasn't that hard to set up. Some people made it sound really difficult. All you really need are your router key and an IP address I think. It took me a while because I forgot that I had changed my router key from what the sticker says. After I got that straightened out, it took a few minutes. One complaint is that when I watch netflix movies the picture seems more zoomed in than it should be. Could be that I have it set inappropriately but I don't know. I'm using it on a TV that is probably 10 years old.

I have had no problems connecting this blu ray player to my home entertainment system or to the internet using an ethernet cable. The picture is sharp and the sound is great. I also seem to be getting fast download times through my DSL connection. It had everything I was looking for in internet features: Netflix, Pandora, and You Tube. It also has Blockbuster as a bonus. The only downside is that the firmware update took a long time to load, but that was minor issue compared to what I liked about it. I would certainly recommend this product!

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and the best feature is Netflix, we can use it to downloan movies in a flash. It also makes DVDs look incredible! The only downfall is having to pay $80 for the wireless adaptor but it isn't a necessity to run the options, so we just plugged it in to our router for now.

Very easy to install and use (you do need a Netflix and/or Blockbuster membership) I have mine hooked up to a cable to my Router. I don't understand why you need to buy memory (flash on USB) to use BD feature. It should have been on the member board. So you will need to buy USB flash memory. Another $25?

Comments about Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Disc Player:
So far we've used this to access Netflix and Pandora and watched a couple of BluRay disks. We're very happy with the performance and ease of use.
Setup was easy, including network configuration. Somehow I missed the fact that the wireless feature is an option, so I installed an Ethernet drop behind the TV so I could connect the unit for Netflix, YouTube, Pandora access. We also upgraded the firmware immediately upon connecting to the network.
The only complaint we have is that disks start playing automatically on powerup, requiring us to wait until the disk loads and then press the Stop button so that we can access Netflix, Pandora, etc.
DVDs looked better on this unit than on our previous player, a cheap commodity unit from a major retailer.

Comments about Samsung BD-P1600 Blu-ray Disc Player:
I bought this player for Blu-Ray use and the streaming Netflix feature, but after experimenting with standard DVDs, this is now my primary DVD player as well. This unit performs well in all categories and is real easy to use.
The only complaint I would have about it is the download/install times for firmware. These typically come when you power up the unit for use, so having to wait 10-20 minutes before watching your movie can be a bit annoying. But I love everything else!
