Turn on the PN50B650 50" 1080p Plasma HDTV from Samsung and you'll be amazed how the resolution delivers top-of-the-line picture quality that takes your home entertainment to another level. With 600Hz Subfields technology, it renders the smoothest most lifelike action you can see on an HDTV. The 3,000,000:1 mega dynamic contrast ratio means you'll see detail in both the brightest and darkest parts of an image. The 18-bit processing capacity delivers hundreds of billions of colors, which is what it takes to deliver a deeper, richer, more realistic picture.
The PN50B650 TV's high brightness lets you place it in any convenient location, while its 600Hz Subfield Motion frame rate is analyzed and then adjusted so nothing goes by in a blur.
The PN50B650 comes with a full complement of inputs, ensuring that you'll be able to hook up any equipment you have or may get in the future. The unit includes 4-HDMI and 2-component jacks for high-definition devices, composite jacks for legacy devices, and a PC input that lets you use the set as a big-screen computer monitor. In addition, the built-in ATSC/Clear QAM tuning system receives virtually any type of cable service, including high definition. The Samsung PN50B650 is energy efficient and is Energy Star compliant. A special energy-saving mode can dim the backlights without affecting the picture quality.

Comments about Samsung PN50B650 50" 1080p PLASMA TV:
I moved my 46" Samsung LCD to another room and replaced it w/ this plasma. I'm amazed at the difference in picture quality! I don't have digital cable (I pay too much already) and aws surprised to find that the plasma picture is much sharper than the LCD with the analog cable signal. I find no difference w/ digital DVD movies. The only complaint I have is that the TV doesn't turn far enough on its stand for me to easily get behind it. I can't even see let alone reach the side panel jacks because the wall is too close. It should be easier to access the jacks on any TV or other electronic device.

This is a great television. Had it for almost 3 weeks now and can't find anything bad to say about it. Except they have discontinued it for some reason.

Comments about Samsung PN50B650 50" 1080p PLASMA TV:
While this set has a plethora of adjustments you can make, it still lacks the "punch" that my Panasonic plasma has. Even in "Dynamic" mode there is still the lack of "punch"- I know, difficult for me to describe. Whites are not as bright as the pana- example, the Winter Olympics. Scenes with a lot of snow (or ice rink) the white gets toned down quite a bit. Close up shots of the athletes in the colorful outfits with multi color bkgnds do look great. Also, some facial features in other shows, newscasts, etc. are not as, shall we say, well lit as the Pana. Yes, I had them both running side by side. The Pana did tend to slightly blow out some highlights on occasion but hardly noticeable whereas the Sammy tends to make sure it does not do that resulting in a flatter and duller appearance. As I said, even in Dynamic mode. Tried numerous other combinations of settings but to no avail. The Sammy has great interconnections available- I have yet to try them all. Will hook up my wired LAN and add an extra confuser to it so I have high hopes for that. Remote has a very nice backlight! USB works great- plays my Aiptek GVS HD vids just fine. Post edited WMV files seem a bit washed out on the color but I need to play a few others to see if just isolated to that one file(it plays on the confuser in beautiful rich colors). Connected my Droid phone to the Sammy and I can play my 3gp vids from the phone just fine. When the set is off the screen appears pinkish (the Pana is the normal greenish-black) and looks really odd and out of place.Sooooo, a good buy for the price I paid from B&H- there was a $300 instant rebate for a few days earlier this month and I jumped on that. I wouldn't pay any more. [...]Bottom line- most people will think the Samsung is great but if you are a discerning aficionado you may have some issues. No set at this price range (less than current price) will be perfect so weigh the cost vs. expectations.

The Pana does not work with any screws in the kits- you have to go on mission to find out the correct size.)

Comments about Samsung PN50B650 50" 1080p PLASMA TV:
I've only had it for a few days now but I have to say - this TV is amazing! There's not much I can add to what people have already said about it - I haven't noticed a buzz at all, there is a glare issue with the lights on or direct sunlight, and the built in speakers are just OK and they are rear firing so if you have it mounted to the wall it might be muffled a bit. I have the unit hooked up to my stereo for movies, games etc. and my girlfriend likes the built in speakers for watching normal TV because she thinks the stereo is too loud - so we have the option to go either way. The picture is amazing - I'm going to be watching many of the movies from my collection over again just to experience them on this tv. Games and video from my HD Camcorder look incredible and connectivity is a breeze. For us 50 inches is perfect and I'm glad we didn't go bigger than that. I can't speak for reliability yet and we have followed the recommendations for break-in by turning the contrast and brightness down and using the burn-in prevention features. So far so good and no image retention. I highly recommend this tv and for the price I feel like this is one of the best televisions on the market.

After much research and final elimination of all but this Sammy and a Panasonic G10/G15 it almost came down to a flip of a coin. But I had a chance to see both in a real world setting; not a store with all the hype. The Samsung was just better in all aspects with beautiful movie color but equally great in sports. Plus its cool looking Touch of Color case adds to our room even when it's off. Super easy setup. The widgets are ok but a little slow. NO BUZZ. [...] After weeks of research it feels good to have made such a good choice.

Great TV with overall beautiful look when off and outstanding picture quality when on. Needed to use the side and rear connection to make my TiVo and old DVD/VCR system work, but I definitely can see the value of having the HDMI for future upgrades.

Comments about Samsung PN50B650 50" 1080p PLASMA TV:
We have been extraordinarily pleased! When viewing most HD material, the picture is so natural looking that we get lost in the program/film and rarely think about the technical qualities of the image.
I relied on Consumer Report's evaluations and picked the Samsung PN 50B650. The picture was good out of the box and became excellent when the contrast was reduced to 80, red was reduced red by 20 points and the sharpness was reduced to zero. Further checking using Spears & Munsil's blu-ray calibration disk revealed that no further adjustments were needed. The speakers deliver clear and fairly natural speech but, as expected, were only fair for music and sound effects.
I should also mention that I also concidered LCD but I couldn't figure out why LCD's were more expensive than plazma. I actually spent more time trying to figure this out than I spent researching the TV I bought. A trip to a nearby retail store revealed that: brightness was about the same, plasmas had better contrast, LCD's blured a little, plasmas generated more heat, plazmas used more electricity and plazmas could viewed from a winder angle than LCD's.
I understand that some plasma sets may retain the ghost of an image if it remains unchanged. We don't use our set that way and haven't noticed any ghosting.
When in the store, I listened for any excessive humming or buzzing but didn't hear any from any of the brands. The Samsung we bought seems very quite.
I was nervous about ordering a large and fragile item like this on-line but was pleasantly surprised --ordering was easy and the set arrived on time without a hitch.

Comments about Samsung PN50B650 50" 1080p PLASMA TV:
This is the 48-52 inch range of HDTV I purchased after very extensive research. After the initial setup, I keyed in the settings from this article which is for the similar 58-inch set, [@]. Picture quality is stunning. I also purchased the disc, "Spears & Munsil, High Defination Benchmark Blu-Ray Edition," which I'll use in the near future to again set the TV and subsequently compare picture quality. I haven't used the Blu-ray disc to calibrate yet as I'm so happy with the TV settings calibrated with the first mentioned link. Even if you unfortunately leave your set at the factory settings, reading the article is enlightening. I can't comment on the sound quality as I'm using Pioneer receiver with Klipsch speakers, etc. Here's another link to settings for calibrating HDTV's, [...].

My first HDTV and I'm very happy with it. The picture looks great, and there are plenty of inputs for my use. The playback of media files seems to work well, though the wireless network seems to drop out and the file just stops playing (it does not seem to resume from the stopping point). I wish the remote could control our cable box.
The internet features are very slow. Almost not worth using (Yahoo weather, YouTube searching, etc.)

Comments about Samsung PN50B650 50" 1080p PLASMA TV:
This TV is simply awesome.
We own two other Samsung HD TVs (one LCD & one rear projection) and this Plasma blows them both away by far.
During months of research before our purchase, I found that in its class, this TV is top dog (which included a very close side-by-side comparison with the Panasonics).
It is very customizable w/ sound & picture, but right out of the box both were impressive.
We haven't dug into the WebTV or home networking yet but it looks pretty cool.
As far as the "BUZZ" reviews, not here - it's quiet as a mouse.
Have no doubts - you will love it.
