The WEM-1 is doing exactly what I wanted. In my surround sound home theater I am using it to drive the back speakers without running wires all over the place. You still need to run wires from the wireless receiver / amp but that is expected with any of these "wireless" units.
I have experienced no popping sounds and the unit was extremely easy to set up. Overall I am very happy with the JBL WEM-1 and at a 1/3 of the price of the KEF system it's a real bargain.

I used this product to set up my back left and right speakers in my 5.1 surround system. Setup was straightforward and the receiver & transmitter synced up instantly. The product has a quality design and had more than enough power for my Klipsch RB-51 speakers. However, there is a noticable hiss/static noise emitted when using the wireless function (audio 3.5mm input sounds fantastic though). My back speakers are placed on either side of my couch and the hiss is annoyingly apparent when there's no audio sent to the back speakers.
The receiver has a feature that enables it switch to standby after 10 minutes without a signal. This would be great if the speakers didn't make a jarring "pop" sound when turning off. I was watching Breaking Bad on Netflix and during a dialogue scene the hissing bothered me, just when I was starting to ignore the hiss and immerse myself...POP! That's when I decided to send this kit back.
If your potential setup and use-case sounds like mine, don't get this product.
(When testing, I tried all 4 signal channels on the devices and I even tried turning my wireless router off)
If you want to use this product to transmit music from one room to another in your home, it would work great. Also, the static sounds didn't grow when turning the volume up; it's very possible that if you have your back surround speakers further away than I have, you won't notice the hiss. And I will say that you do indeed get great wireless sound when the connected speakers are getting a workout.
In summary, the issues I mentioned were dealbreakers for me, but you may have luck with a different setup. Hopefully JBL can improve on this product...until then it looks like I'm buying a crapload of cable raceways.

Comments about JBL WEM-1 Wireless Expansion Module:
WEM1 is more suitable for people who wish to recreate a 2nd zone or just want to route the surround speakers.
for ppl who wish to relocate their sub-woofer, WEM1 does not take the sub output from AVR but uses L/R channels low freq for it. Its useless for people who wish to connect surround and move their wire sub-woofer. JBL actually expect you to buy 2 or these WEM1 to get it to work!
the connector for the sub a 3.5mm stereo out, didn't make sense as most sub-woofer out there uses RCA!
Volume control is poor, there should be a indicator to know its max or min volume given the size of these things.
They should be able to reduce the form factor.

Comments about JBL WEM-1 Wireless Expansion Module:
I purchased the WEM-1 for connecting classic JBL Monitor speakers, model 4311, to an audio amplifier elsewhere in the home. The JBL wireless expansion module replaces an old Kenwood wireless unit purchased several years ago which had begun to fail. The JBL is far superior, driving the old monitor speakers beautifully and providing excellent sound.

The WEM-1 allowed me to add rear surround sound without having to run wires under the floor or through the ceiling joists. The unit can handle both pre amp outs or amplified outs. The auto on off system saves energy. It took me five minutes to set it up and the results are amazing!

Comments about JBL WEM-1 Wireless Expansion Module:
I used this product to safe myself a world of grief and frustration. With the use of the WEM-1 I eliminated the need to crawl through my attic, over wooden beams and mounds of blown insulation and blowing a whole in my exterior wall to bring the speaker wire through. Instead I connected the WEM-1 to the rear speakers of my surround system by connecting 2 pairs of short wires from my receiver to the WEM-1 transmitter and 2 short wires from the WEM-1 receiver to the rear speakers. Plugged in the power of each device, turned on my receiver and wallah. That's it? Yep, that's it! No fuss, no mess, no probs. I can't detect any audio delay and the audio quality is superb. It's mounting versatility is great, vertical floor mount, feet pads for horizontal placement and a wall mount. All the hardware was provided. I'm considering purchasing another WEM-1 for the Zone 2 of my receiver so that I can wirelessly and effortlessly connect to the outdoor speakers. Hum, Great idea!!

Extremely easy to set up and operate. I now have rear speakers for my home theater, without having to run speaker wires across the room. Since it works on RF and not IR, I have the receiving unit hidden under the couch. No muss, no fuss, and worth every penny.

Comments about JBL WEM-1 Wireless Expansion Module:
Got this for my upstairs speakers. Home Entertainment setup has A/B switching so I can listen upstairs only, or both.
It has 4 channels to choose from. Found a usable clear channel after 2nd try -- 2.4 GHz cordless phone & wireless router interference caused voices to sound like evil aliens.
Adjustable antenna also helpful. Would like JBL to offer additional receivers for sale on their own.

I purchased the JBL WEM-1 to rid myself of the speaker cables running around the room to my rear speakers.
The setup was simple and quick. The most time-consuming part was measuring and cutting the speaker wires for connecting to the receiver module.
Once connected to the A/V receiver and the speakers, all I had to do was plug it in, and it worked flawlessly from the start. No interference with or from our phone, wireless network. As I said, it works as advertised.

This wireless system connects my computer music to speakers in an adjoining room. I bought my first WEM-! from another vendor and its power supply failed. I got my money back (they would not replace the WEM) and then ordered from B&H. The replacement has worked flawlessly.

Comments about JBL WEM-1 Wireless Expansion Module:
We use this in a conference room to provide wireless sound for presentations. Not really what it is intended for, but it works great. It was easy to hook up, has plenty of power, and sounds clean. We have several other wireless systems in our building (also at 2.4 GHZ) and there has never been any issues with interference. Highly recommended for any application where wireless hook up of speakers is needed.

Comments about JBL WEM-1 Wireless Expansion Module:
I read this description fairly quickly and didn't appreciate the limitations of this setup's design. There is ONE transmitter and ONE receiver. Therefore depending on your rear speaker layout, you may still have wires running everywhere to connect the two speakers from the central wireless receiver. This wasn't what I was looking for and I had to return the product. The setup from Audio Research has indepedent receivers so it is a better setup for minimizing wires.
