I'm really pleased with the performance of this scanner. Speedy, paper feeder works very well (only one misfeed in a few thousand pages so far) and excellent quality. The documentation, however, is horrible -- no manual other than an HTML doc that is poorly organized.
Fortunatly, I'm familiar with the Epson Scan software, so I was able to get this operational. Even so, using some of the advanced features was accomplished via trial and error. No excuse for that -- good hardware needs good documentation!
It comes with some ancillary programs, the most useful being the ABBYY OCR program. It's not the full version, but it qualifies you for a reduced price upgrade to the full version. The one bundled with the scanner is OK for light-duty OCR work, but if you expect to do a lot of OCR runs, then an upgrade to the full version is well worth it.
The other software is for business card reading (looked at it, and it seems OK, but I don't use the scanner much for that) and PaperPort (didn't install that at all due to bad past expereince with it). You can pick and choose which apps to load during the install.
Comes with TWAIN drivers which is why I picked this over the Fujitsu (which is also a good model). Plus, this was a bit cheaper to boot.
Highly recommend, but plan on setting aside some time if you want to learn how to use all the features.

Product arrived DOA so I called Epson.. After explaining my situation (the unit was DOA), Epson told me they would not replace the unit, I would have to take it to a service center for repair. They did not offer any type of cross-shipment and the repair center told me at least 2 weeks to get it back. This product is a "business tier" piece of equipment.. what business can afford to have a piece of gear down for 2 weeks?[...]

Great scanner -- I've used it primarily for documents (tearsheets of published articles), but also for photos. It's fast, sharp, and offers great color.

Comments about Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 Scanner:
Since opening my own law office about 15 months ago, I've tried to save and file documents electronically to minimize paper and make my client files available from my computer. I struggled along using a slow MFD scanner on an inkjet printer in an attempt to save money. Big mistake.
The speed and quality of the scans produced by this product are great. Using it has increased my efficiency dramatically. Among other things, I've completely abandoned my conventional fax machine and dedicated fax phone line. I now use this scanner to create pdf's to fax using an online fax service. Saves me about $75 per month over a standalone fax machine and phone line. That change alone will pay for this scanner in no time. It also serves, in conjunction with a high speed mono-laser printer, as my primary copy machine. Scan snd print right from my desk and hand the copies to the client while they wait. I still make trips to the conventional copy machine down the hall, but not nearly as often.
If you need to convert paper to digital files, I would defiinitely recommend this product. Only knock is that the set up software didn't seem as clear as it could have been, but I still had it up and running without problems.

Great product. We choose this over the well known Fujitsu scanner because the GT-S50 has both twain and isis drivers. Everything is easy and straightforward to install & use. The unit is very small which surprised me but excellent if you have a cluttered work desk. Also I do extensive research on products and pricing BH was the best price of anywhere else (about ~60 cheaper). In fact I thought they where going to cancel the order because the price was a mistake.Overall very pleased, scanner works good so far,[...]

I bought this scanner to scan 40 years of photos to CD and am extremely happy with the scanner. You can scan 20 pictures at a time in just a few seconds and the picture quality is great. If you sort the pictures by physical size first, it is smooth as silk with no jams[...] I have never gotten anything that was poor quality from them.

Comments about Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 Scanner:
I bought this to scan all my documents because I have a very small room. The scanner is built like a tank and is made to be a workforce. The scanner is heavy and feels solid.
The software are easily installed, and setting up the different auto scan functions are not too difficult. The scanner is very responsible, I like to start the scan from the different functions that I assigned to the scanner. I just select the function and press a button on the scanner to start the scanning process.
If scanning to PDF only, it is very fast and the software has no problem with catching up with the fast scans; but if scanning to a searchable PDF, then the software lags behind. I don't see the small wait to be a problem while it does the searching PDF conversion. I like how well the included software does OCR with text and pictures. I was surprised how fast the process is with the text layout preserved. I have an older scanner that scans OCR only to text, so this is a great functionality. For photo scanning, I recommend using the carrier sheet to protect the pictures from the roller.
The only problem I have is that the text scans is not as sharp as I would have liked. If I increase the DPI, it helps, but the scan is not as fast. This wasn't the main problem I have with the scanner. I have an older laptop that has problem with the scanner once the laptop goes to sleep; when it wakes up, it refused to see the scanner unless I restart the laptop. It may just be a problem with my laptop.

Comments about Epson WorkForce Pro GT-S50 Scanner:
I bought the Epson S50 scanner for use in a small office. So far, after three weeks, I have been very pleased. I had no trouble installing the software or setting up the machine. I enjoy the duplex scanning which I did not have before. It's very fast and easy to scan right off the LED, but, if you need something a little more complicated, the software interface works fine. I really didn't read any instructions or manuals. I didn't think it was hard to figure out. When I scan from the machine, it puts the file right in My Documents at the bottom. I just rename and file. My only complaint is that it isn't a fast process when scanning from the software. It's okay, but it still goes through several steps and I had hoped for a faster response.
