As a casual user, I found this camcorder easy to use, but it can also be flexible enough should the need arise to capture that special moment.

We need DVD cameras at the school I work at so that Nursing students can record their interview assignment, return the camera and keep the DVD for their review. then they submit it to the instructor. Sony is the only company still making them and hopefully they will continue because I'd like to buy 6 more next school year. The memory stick option is great too since they are also used by students to video and edit their own documentary assignments.

We purchased this camera to record my wife's voice recital and family moments. We are very happy with the product and would recommend it to anyone. The sound quality and color is very true, even in low light or distance situations. The 60X optical zoom is wonderful and focuses well. The camera is much smaller than the DV cassette camcorder we are replacing, and I actually carried it in my pocket into the recital hall. Yes, the DVDs are very short, but I have a number of cassettes that I haven't watched since recording them (I am not much of an editor, nor do I have a DVD burner) so the usability is much higher for us. There is the option to record on a Memory Stick so I feel that the issue of storage is a moot point. Overall, we are obviously highly satisfied. One point to add, I do not plan on using the still capture feature since I already have a good digital camera, so I cannot comment on that quality (I hear that it is low).

Powerful zoom lens, good picture quality in this price range. Image stabilizer is also OK even at high zoom range. Easy connectivity to PC via USB / can record on DVD also in case you are out of memory.

Great camera that is easy to use and easy to watch after videoing. We simply finalize the disk in a couple of minutes and pop the disk into our DVD player

its really great. i use i for skateboarding and i get the lens smacked over and over. the sound quality is great. bad thing is that theres no input for a mic. but over all its really great (but no HD) great sound quality and clear image. Impressive looking camcorder , happy to receive it as a gift which coincided with a family celebration for our most senior member's 95th ... great time to capture all and memorialize the family gathering ... just one MAJOR DEFICIENCY ... the unit is not user ready right out of the box ... no internal memory and the cam does not come with a sample CD/DVD or memory stick for immediate use / testing ... could not take any video or still shots as it became necessary to go out and purchase media and in the middle of a family gathering, that was not likely !! I think that selling a product not field ready is pretty cheap of Sony ... and to reward this mindset, this one is being returned !! It may be the world's greatest camcorder but unfortunately, I'll never have the experience.

WARNING !! Don't give this cam as a gift with the expectation that it will be used immediately, as in Christmas morning, Mother's / Father's Day ... your event will not get recorded, at least with your newest techno toy !

Excellent. However, the discs only hold 20 minutes at the high quality setting. I like this because it allows me to keep detailed notes on the cover card. Shooting for amateur filmmaking is another story. I shoot everything in VR mode. As far as I am aware, there are only a couple pieces of software which will rip this. Sony Vegas does a fine job, but does not allow you to select which scene to import, and will import the entire disc. This wastes time, but is really an issue with Vegas, not the camera. I just keep a blank disc on hand for these little YouTube concepts. (You don't need to finalize when importing to Vegas.) For easy workflow in filmmaking, I'd recommend DV or a hard drive camera.

Due to ever changing technology, I'd have to agree with another reviewer who suspects DVD cameras are on their way out. They don't do HD and hard drives hold hours more than a mini-DVD.

Found the camera very user friendly. Good variable zoom control. Prefer the eye view display which very few cameras have. Do not use a disc because it's an excessive energy battery load. Got a 16gb chip. The only draw back is the software. It is very difficult to use. Instead I got NCH video pad editor. It can be down loaded for a free trial period. Having easy to use software for editing the videos makes the camera much more enjoyable.

My daughter and I both had an older Sony mini-DVD model, and it was great to be able to upgrade withouth losing capability of processing the mini-DVDs as well step up to the newer technology. The 60X zoom is incredible.

My husband and I purchased this camcorder with the purpose of recording our children and events. We wanted something that would offer quality, easy to use and quick to pass on DVD. We ended up returning it after purchasing the little DVD's for the camcorder that are really expensive and only record approx 30-60 minutes. Then also buying additionally the memory card. At the end it is bulky and not practical for our use.

This Sony camcorder has filled the bill whether the task is filming wildlife or grandchildren. It took all of five minutes to start rolling and the images are fantastic.

Great color, excellent zoom, well laid out controls, and the ability to use mini CDs or memory cards make it all that more versatile.

So far no downside, just a lot of fun and memories.
