The MHS-PM1 Webbie HD Camera (Silver) from Sony is a fun camcorder, ideal for those with a YouTube habit. The MHS-PM1 records in the Internet friendly MPEG4 format, that along with the Picture Motion Browser software, makes for uncomplicated uploading for sharing via email and social media sites. And, because the camera records to Memory Stick PRO Duo media you can pop the media right into any compatible PC or Mac. You can even transfer stills to your compatible printer for one step still printing.
The MHS-PM1's upright form factor allows it to fit in your pocket with ease, making the Webbie HD ideal for carrying with you at all times. In addition, the 1.8" LCD and 270° swivel lens make self-recording a breeze. Other helpful features include 4x digital zoom, scene selection modes, and a Multi-AV terminal for connection to your TV.

I've given this 4 stars as a mark for a sole photo/video camera. However, thats not why I think you should buy this unit; I bought it as an addition to my existing kit, and for that I give it 5 stars.
These are the key points about this 'Webbie':
(1) its very small & light so you can just pop it in a pocket when you go for a works lunch or go skiing or whatever. Furthermore, its no big deal to carry it in addition to your proper camera.
(2) its not expensive (and its also a self-protecting, rounded design, so you aren't going to worry about carrying it whilst doing sports or going to get yourself beaten up while demonstrating for the preservation of our democratic freedoms (as you do :-) )
(3) The lens rotates. Sorry, I'll say that again: the lens rotates. (There are some other cameras that do this but its a bit rare and they are a bit bulky). Whether this matters to you depends on your photographic interests.
(4) It makes uploading to the web easy I think but I haven't got round to that yet.
If all you do is shoot landscapes and sports movies then forget this camera. But if you want to take candid shots or videos of street scenes without causing a stir, then this is perfect. Please note, I would not use this to invade someone's privacy. Nor would I shoot private individuals then load it up to YouTube. But when I visit a place I like to capture candid shots and videos from the metro, the street, people going about their business in parks, and markets etc. It really enhances your memory experience (and is just for showing friends and family). If you try any of those shots with a 'normal' camera, either (a) the persons get upset or (b) they stop behaving naturally; either of which ruins the shot.
The first shot I took was of an inner courtyard with interesting architecture, which was probably private, but using this camera was so discrete that nobody could get annoyed.
If you shoot with this at your belly, looking down at your hand, with the lens facing forwards, it looks like you are just checking a light meter or a digital diary or something.
Now for the negatives. Well obviously you don't get a big or fast lens on this thing. Being spoiled by a 24mm wide angle on my 'real' camera, I was sometimes frustrated by the more restricted field of view on the Webbie; but the point is: it slips easily into your top jacket pocket - and I'd hate to lose that compactness and robustness when in rough and tumble environments.
This Webbie is a good product.

Overall, great little "direct to web" camera. But we purchased the Webbie with the intention for student/classroom use. Unfortunately, continuous shooting is only available up to 25 minutes no matter the memory capacity. Recording will then automatically stop!!!
THIS is an important fact which Sony neglects to tell up front, but is disclosed on pg 31 in the manual. Webbie is useless for long-form capture unless you have someone to reactivate every 25 minutes.

Comments about Sony MHS-PM1 Webbie HD Camera (Silver):
Light, compact, HD is really HD, the 4X digital zoom is appropriate - the oly thing one has to watch out for is the shake. To overcome this, one holds the hand that is taking the video by the wrist to steady it, then it's fine. 16Gig is a good size SD card.

Comments about Sony MHS-PM1 Webbie HD Camera (Silver):
My only complaint with the camera is the very sensitive microphone. You just move your hand on the camera and the microphone picks it up. Since all of my recording is with the camera on a tripod, the sensitivity is not that critical and actually is a great benefit. Almost all of my recording is a my wife and I performing on piano, guitar, and harmonica. It is outstanding for that purpose. The recorded sound is as good, maybe even better, than my H2Zoom. If we were walking around with the camera, then the mic sensitivity would be a problem.

The sony Webbie is a easy to use full featured product that is made for someone like me who travels often. the 5 MP camera for stills is a nice feature plus you can get a 16 GB card that gives you plenty of space to record. It was exactly what I was looking for and B&H had the best prices.

I bought this camera for private investigations based on the recommendation of another investigator. I like that the camera turns on when one swivels open the lens. Its HD, but little or no image stabilization. It needs to sit on something stationary. Easy to access the images.

I bought this camera with the intention of just using it on my Radio Controlled Planes. The camera is perfect for this because of the swivel lens and its lightweight. However, I was really impressed with the picture (The HD picture looks great even with the compression), the camera's ability to respond to changes in light, and ease of use. It's a great still and video camera to keep in your pocket for whatever interesting shot you run into.
My only con about the project is that the Memory Stick maybe capable of hours of recording, but the instructions state that each video can only be about 25 min long.

This HD MHS-PM1 does have limitations, and it does not have all the bells and whistles like other camcorders; however, I knew this when I purchased it. It is good for travel and for those times when you don't want to take along a lot of equipment.
The video quality and sound are very good, and so is the camera quality. It does a great job of recording kids and pets. I was not disappointed.
The price is excellent too!
Thank you B&H.

Great product. I like that the lens can revolve, and I can catch some funny staff secretly. For exemple I can record at class in my college :) One thing I don't like, this camera has no imidge stabilaser. But it's ok, just dont shake your hands. Other thihg, it's has poor video quality in the dark.

I purchased this camcorder to be a compact way to capture real life. Its way simple to use and the quality of the photos and videos is better than I expected. I love how it turns on and off automatically when you open and close the lens. The reason why I only gave it 4 stars and the only issue I have is, it does not do extreme close up photos very well (self portraits). Also the audio works well if the camera man is the narrator but it doesn't do well if the subject is talking.

Very convenient due to its tiny size, no bulky camera to carry on trips, no tapes to handle, transfer recording to computer easily. Size becomes a slight disadvantage though in big hands.

Very light weight. Easy to use. Took it on a Boy Scout 5 day backpack trip through Yosemite and it took some video and photos. The light weight made it perfect for this trip.
The limited number of buttons is great but the one for uploading directly to blog sites is, in my opinion, unnecessary.

Yes, it is great to have a small camera with video and still picture capabilities. The screen is large and clear. I miss a flash. And the lens is too

i have the candy bar shaped webbie so i can pretty much have a camera in my pocket at all times...yes it is what it is...yet i've been amazed at how nice the footage is...of course i don't expect much quality indoors and would rarely use it indoors...i have much more expensive prosumer cameras that don't shoot well indoors either...yes cameras need light...but all the outdoor footage has been a bit of a jaw dropper...i use sony vegas pro and the files just drag right into vegas no prob...sure not for everyone but for the price i would think the quality is better than the flip hd...
