Canon's FS21 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder is ideal for people who don't want to deal with DVDs, tapes, or hard drive recording. Affordable and lightweight, the FS21 stores over 10 hours of video and stills to its internal 16GB flash memory and gives you the option of using SDHC Memory Cards, should you need more space. Flash memory is easy to upload to your computer for editing or sharing on the Internet.

The FS21 features a 1/6" CCD image sensor, Canon's DIGIC DV II Image Processor, 48x Advanced Zoom, and a 2.7" LCD display. This camera also captures digital stills and comes with extras like external microphone and headphone jacks.

Soccer moms and dads will appreciate the Pre-record mode, which captures a full 3 seconds of video before you hit the button, ensuring that you won't miss the start of the action.

In addition, the Quick Start mode and Intelligent Li-ion battery all make your recording experience a pleasant one. The FS21 gives you the convenience of flash memory at an affordable price.

Dual Flash Memory
Record over 10 hours of footage to the 16GB internal flash memory. Expand your recording time by using an optional SDHC memory card.
Image Sensor & DIGIC DV II
The 1.07Mp 1/6" CCD image sensor works in tandem with Canon's DIGIC DV II Image Processor to reduce image noise and customize the color and tonality of your video and still images.
48x Advanced Zoom
Canon's 48x Advanced Zoom extends the length of the camera's longest zoom, so you can record far off subjects clearly and in focus with almost no loss in image quality.
2.7" Widescreen LCD
The widescreen LCD gives you a generous display on which to compose and playback your shots, not to mention an accurate view of what you're actually recording.
Digital Image Capture
There's no need to carry both a digital camera and camcorder to every event. The FS21 captures 1152 x 684 digital still photos to SDHC memory cards and includes special functions to make shooting easier, such as scene modes and auto focus.
Electronic Image Stabilization
The electronic image stabilizer corrects for inevitable camera shake, not just due to an unsteady hand but also when your subject is moving or you're lightly bumped.
Creative Control & Workflow Features
  • External microphone & headphone terminals
  • Quick Start starts camera up for recording when LCD is opened
  • Variable Zoom Speed Control: three fixed speeds for fluid transitions

Comments about Canon FS21 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:

We're using this video camera to record training sessions and instructional videos. The camera is small and very portable which is nice when traveling. It picks up sound rather well and with the mic input gives us some flexiblity to add a wireless lapel mic. Plenty of storage if you buy the 32GB card to go in it. Video quality on LP is good enough for view via computer or internet. The software that comes with the camcorder isn't wonderful, but mostly functional. We've had some quirks getting the videos downloaded when stored on the card. Overall, however, this is a good little camera for the price.

Comments about Canon FS21 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:

For anyone thinking about buying this camera:
I love it, I've been looking at cameras for a while and I finally bought this one. I looked at so many cameras - sonys, panasonics, canons, jvc, etc. and I compared them right next to each other - their zoom, how easy they were to use, and the quality of video - and this one was my favorite. I'm a multimedia production major so I wanted something that will last me a while that I could use for all of my projects and this one is perfect. I just wish canon made them in different colors!

Comments about Canon FS21 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:

Bought this to record church video. Was unable to get ANY good video from it. The video format (.mod)is restrictive and you have to use the proprietary software included to access footage. All video taken had horrible degradation. Could not use any footage after trying for 3 months in various settings.
The audio/microphone input is a plus as it was possible to connect an audio output from mixer to camera.
Very disappointing and useless performance overall.

Comments about Canon FS21 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder:

Pros: Compact design, no need for tapes, microphone input

Cons: Low quality video indoors, no headphone out, weird file type, easily irritated CCD

This is a great idea camera, a cheap camera that doesn't need tapes but has some great features like a manual focus mode and a microphone input. But the bad CCD and the lack of a headphone out kind of ruin it. The footage inside is horrible, the CCD needs almost 1000w of light before it doesn't strain itself, and not being able to hear the audio from your mic just doesn't make much sense. I was planning on working with this camera until i could afford a nicer one, but I already want to get rid of it and I've only had it for a month.

Overall: I would not buy this camera again for any purpose. It seems that low end SD cameras are of worse quality then they used to be, so save up another $200 and get an HD with a CMOS or 3 CCD's.
