It has everything that I want, like external mic jack, earphone jack, and is relatively inexpensive. However, there is one issue so far. The auto focus takes longer to work, than my older sony. The Cannon will oscillate back and forth a few times until it focuses. The Sony will snap right into focus.
But for our purposes, the Cannon is ideal, because we will be using it to record the Rabbi's lectures, so the camera will be mounted on a tripod. The autofocus is not an issue. So for our use, the camera is 5 stars, but for all purpose shooting, I will go with four stars because of the autofocus issue.
The external mic jack is critical. I already have a decent camcorder (the Sony) but the sound recording is dependent on the internal microphones, which pick up camera noise. Since I am recording lectures, an external mic jack is critical. Sony, take note! Why do many and most camcorder manufacterers leave out the mic jack? Beats me because this is the most desired feature for my purpose.

I bought this camcorder on basis of the strength of the Consumer Reports rating and the good value. However, the low-light performance is really poor - and I really wasn't expecting much. I would say it's basically unusable under normal incandescent lighting. The images are not just grainy, which is what I would expect for low-lighting, but there are such bad trails on moving objects that it looks like a bad acid trip. I get better low-light video from my digital camera, which is also a Canon! Also, don't expect the built-in light to do much.
Another really disappointing aspect is the software that comes with the unit. It was shocking to me that it took me so long to figure out how to actually download movies to my computer. This should be one of the main functions of a digital camcorder, in my opinion, but the software almost seems an after-thought. It's clunky and difficult to use.
However, we got this camcorder so we'd be able to record simple videos of our new baby to share with out-of-state family and friends, and for that purpose I think it's OK, especially considering the price. It's a very sleek little unit and is easy and comfortable to use. I imagine this will be great for taking video at the park and birthday parties.

Just needed something portable with simple functions so I could lend it out when needed to people who are "simple".
It's a pretty basic camera but decent.

I got this camera to start a webshow with, it works really well. I'm still working with it some to find the full range of its abilities but for the price its a really good quality piece of equipment.

Comments about Canon FS200 Flash Memory Camcorder (Evening Blue):
I bought this camera at the last minute to film my son's wedding, so I only had enough time to learn a few basics. First of all, I loved B&H's price...blew everyone else out of the water. The camera is compact and takes great pictures. I love the zoom power. It came with an AC power cord that also charges the battery and a USB cable to hook it up to the computer. I bought an 8gb high-speed card to use with it and it seems to work great. My card reader wouldn't let me read the card, though, but I got it to work by plugging the camera into the computer. I still need to do some reading of the manual when I get some time to learn a few things, but so far this has been a great little camera.

We purchased this camera last month to get shots of family events, vacation locations and just for fun. It is very portable so we can take it along on hikes easily. It is easy to use and takes no time to get used to. It has an unbelievable zoom.

I bought this camera for family use. It is very easy to use for me and my wife.
It has worked well in most lighting situations so far. Picture quality did suffer when I was taking video in my living room with three lamps on. I turned the can lights on, and picture was just fine. Also, I was worried that the picture would be blotchy on my plasma tv since the camera is standard definition, but it looks great.
I haven't tried taking a still picture, but that's not what I bought it for. My XSI is in charge of stills. :0)

Comments about Canon FS200 Flash Memory Camcorder (Evening Blue):
I purchased this camera because of its extremely small size and user friendly features, as well as its very reasonable price tag. I'm not disappointed! It is very easy to use, even with a mac, and extremely portable. It is nearly as small as a small digital camera, and very easy to use. I'm completely satisfied with it for my purposes--casual video shooting, family video, etc.

This product is super easy to use especially for students. The upload is easy and best of all does not require firewire cards. Love that you can have a mic input for even better sound. Negative would be the size is a little small in the hand.

Comments about Canon FS200 Flash Memory Camcorder (Evening Blue):
I bought this camera to shoot new baby video. While waiting for this special day I have been practicing shooting just about everything. Before my purchase, I came very close to buying the HF200; after much deliberation, I realized I can't afford the HF200 AND buy a new computer to keep up with the HD technology; most of the reviews showed problematic software anyways. The FS200 can't be beat for the price [$]. It performs pretty much as expected. Low light isn't the best; in good lighting it isn't the best, but it works for me and most consumers don't notice a difference. The set-up, menus and controls are pretty easy; downloading to the computer is quick and painless. It picks up sound well.It really is a good buy for the casual user and someone who wants to store some memories. I feel this was a good purchase. I've picked up a couple of SDHC cards and a spare battery. I still intend to purchase an HD camcorder down the road.

Used for: Home video of Kids and Family.
Pros: Features and video great to navigate, size and ergonomics were great.
Cons: Video is not good even for standard definition. In all but the absolute brightest settings the video was so grainy I felt it to be unacceptable. The video was sub par even compared to a 6 year old Sony Digital 8 camcorder that uses large tapes. I returned this product after using it about 6 times.

Bought this for my wife to replace the broken ZR60 that we had for a flew years - Still works but the tape head is not - I like this new camcorder dew to size and cost - great for catching the great time has my little girl grows up - Only purchased the 4 gig card which I would like a little bigger card but it's nice small video clips to work with as I teach my wife video editing on the new Mac Book Pro -

I love this thing so far. We got it specifically to video our grandson. The display screen is clear and bright so you know what you're getting. For the price you can't go wrong. The few cons are: hard to read buttons (I'm 57). The manuel has 3 other higher priced cameras included in it, which makes it awkward to read. Last, the resolution on the still shots not that great, but that's not what I wanted it for anyway.

I bought this camera as a beginning tool for video capture. I like the small size and recording to a SD card. I got decent, usable video in low light. Maybe should have invested in the next model with on-board memory, but this will be adequate for my purposes for now. A good camera for the money--we'll see how long it lasts in rough conditions.

We bought two of these for our athletic department. We love not having to worry about having enough tapes to last the season. We also bought the DW-100 DVD Burner which makes it extremely easy to create DVDs after the game. It has been a great investment. We have had some trouble downloading into Final Cut and iMovie but that may be due to our software being out of date.
