I purchased this camcorder fully knowing that it wasn't the be all end all of the camcorder world. It surpassed my initial expectation and I'm glad that I chose this unit.
The video quality is great. It's not an HD camera but the SD video looks clean on the standard setting and if I wanted to I could increase to the next highest setting to get a bit more quality.
I am using a SDHC flash card with 4gigs of capacity. This ties in nicely with the battery life...appx 2 hours video storage and approx 2 hours of battery life. Once it's full I just have to slip the SDHC card into my computer and transfer the videos. Easy file management with no wasted media expense.
The unit is small/light enough to take along on a day trip. I have large hands but it's not so small that I can't work the buttons.
The zoom is nice but you should consider a tripod or a monopod if you plan on using this to it's fullest. When zoomed out the picture is smooth and stable...but if you try to zoom more than 35% or so the image gets jumpy and it gets worse the more you zoom.
Low light recording! This camcorder works really well indoors with standard lighting. I was expecting to have to tweak the setting to get a bright enough picture...not to worry with this unit.
The sound quality is fine but nothing to write home about. I haven't used the external mic jack just yet but it's nice to know I have that option.
The software bundle that came with the camcorder isn't worth installing. Find yourself a free video processing program if you intend to edit your videos.

Compared to HD, the image quality isn't so impressive, but its simply not an HD camera. This camera is one of the few remaining cam corders on the market that records SD AND has a microphone jack. I would have got HD, but I need to edit my videos and the cost to upgrade computer to specs required for HD editing and rendering were prohibitive. Also needed extra zoom and HD zoom camcorders are pretty limited. Be sure you check all that out before you go for the HD cams...you may be limited to just plugging it into your tv and watching it...un-edited. The whole HD camcorder thing was kind of discouraging after a moderate amount of research. The good news is, this camcorder was relatively inexpensive and when HD editing is a bit more mainstream and affordable, I won't feel bad about retiring this one early.

Comments about Canon FS200 Flash Memory Camcorder (Misty Silver):
I purchased this video camera (18 years since my last) to record my son's senior prom, HS awards ceremonies & graduation. I have only used it twice so far and look forward to the next. Very easy to use and hold. I highly recommend the non-touch display for which most of the cannon line has. A view through would have been nice for outside video, but would have added weight and size. I played back the prom video on my 47" LED LCD TV and the colors were bright and image was crisp. I would have to say that the FS200 has the best bang for the buck at this time for a camera in this league.

Good value and easy to use. Came as expected and performed well. Also, as expected, view screen is hard to see in bright light but all non-viewfinder models suffer from that and I knew it ahead of time.
Only had camera one week.

I have a one year old and this has been a perfect camera and very easy to use. I can keep up with him and have been able to capture fun and 'first' moments which is why I purchased
DOWNSIDE: when you get in dim lighting it really does get a little fuzzy. I also don't like that you have to have the camera plugged in to an outlet when uploading the video to the PC. Other than that its a great camera

Use: Video clips of family and kids.
I will probably use the mic input in the future. It's only standard def, but it's light, fast to start recording, easy to use and works well to get the video emailed to grandparents or up on the web. High def would be too hard to work with and wouldn't matter enough to me. Maybe in the future. I also did not see an advantage to getting the newest model either. The picture is really the same. I'm sure optical stabilization is better than the electronic, but not enough to pay for it.

This camera is so small it could almost hide in your hand. Remember it only shoots SD video. Final Cut Pro won't touch the files without a lot of hassle, but iMovie likes it just fine. Nice video for an SD camera.

I am a videographer, and I use this camera for quick outdoor "b-roll" shots. I find the picture and color quality, even in quite low light, very acceptable. It is so small I can carry it in my shirt pocket quite comfortably, and having virtually no mechanical moving parts I don't risk shock damage so much as I did with my previous MiniDV camcorders.
All in all I am very impressed with this "Mighty Mouse" of a camcorder (my 4th Canon camcorder BTW)

Great camera for family video. Simple to use, good quality video, and the external mic input is a great plus!
Note -- do not purchase the "Edit 100 Camera Bag" which is listed as a recommended accessory. This bag is too small!

I was looking for a camcorder to use in our church. It was to replace an old 8mm camcorder. I read all the reviews online from other websites and this camera was in the top 7. We're very pleased so far. Video quality is good indoors and out. Easy to transfer movies over to the pc. I bought a SD usb reader and I transfer them that way instead of the cable. Its much easier.

Comments about Canon FS200 Flash Memory Camcorder (Misty Silver):
I was pleasantly surprised at just how compact thins thing was when I opened the box. It's our first camcorder; I chose Canon because all of our other cameras are Canon, and we've had nothing but good experiences with them. I haven't tried any low-light shooting yet, so we haven't noticed any of the the low- light noise that people mention in their reviews- I'm sure their will be some, but this is an entry level camera, and we typically don't do too much low light stuff anyway.
The controls are intuitive and easy to use, menus easy to navigate on the fly, etc. Learning curve is very short; you'll have to try hard to find a better camera in this price range.

Easy to use, lightweight and can fit in your pocket. Doesn't take photo's nicely, but I bought it for a camcorder, not a camera. All in all this will be great for my new family member.

Bought this camera for use by myself and wife (home videos). Easy to use and great quality for a standard definition camcorder. Great price and can be taken anywhere due to the small size. Still images are not great, but that is not what I am using the camera for.
