The Pentax 7x50 Marine Binocular is that rarest of breeds, a center focusing 7x50 unit with an internal compass and reticle. Most of the 7x50 boating binoculars are porro prism models with individual focusing. Many users prefer the roof prism configuration because of the identical barrel spacing to one's eye, and nearly all would choose center focusing over individual focusing if they had the choice.
The 7x50 Marine has an internal compass that uses LED illumination, the most battery-efficient of all, to display its readings. There's also a rangefinding reticle scale, which aids your estimations of the distances of other boats (when their approximate height is already known). The 7x50 Marine is meant for use on water, built to withstand the elements and protected by Pentax's fine "Worry Free" warranty in any case.

Comments about Pentax 7x50 Marine Binocular with LED Compass & Rangefinding Reticle:
I just got them in a few weeks ago and they are very good as far as optics goes. Box says made in china, ( maybe japanese glass? maybe?) in any case very sturdy looking, but have yet to put them through the paces. For those who were glasses, you will be happy to know they have twist up/ down eyecups. I do not wear glasses, so that's a bit annoying to me...Many major manufactuers in the east are doing this on "top of the line" binocs now. Nikons later Monarch series does as well, just FYI. I have a very narrow face, still works fine as far as adjustments, maybe not for the kids.(one reviewer mentioned this..I'm 5'6).The price is excellent, best on the web [...] I bought these as a replacement for a older model Monarch that was stolen from me, I would say I did well.7X is plenty of magnification, and has no "shake" you can get in 10X.

Comments about Pentax 7x50 Marine Binocular with LED Compass & Rangefinding Reticle:
These give a nice sharp bright image with accurate color and low chromatic abberation. They are one of the few roof prism 7 x 50s, so are more compact than the competition. The centre focus knob makes them more convenient than IF types. If you have very narrow eyes these may not work for you.The reticle is clear but minimal so it doesn't obscure your view. This makes them suitable for general use, not just marine use.The compass on mine is terrible. It is poorly made (the markings are not even straight) and mine has a large air bubble inside. I can't even tell north from south let alone get an accurate reading. Oh well, a dedicated compass is always best for that anyway.Apart from the compass I am very pleased with these. I paid 70% less than what I would have in Australia, [...]Once I added them to my cart the price dropped[$]

Comments about Pentax 7x50 Marine Binocular with LED Compass & Rangefinding Reticle:
The compass is handy when boating, it keeps you focused on direction along with your target.
The rangfinder feature is perfect when your anchoring, it helps to give you the distance from shore to the aft of your boat.
I couldn't find anything I would not like about this product. The size is perfect, lightweight, a very good binocular with these features for the money

I'm using these for coastal pilotage and find them excellent. Sharp, bright viewing. The compass is great, easy to see and nice and steady, easy to get an accurate bearing. They focus down to 1.5 metres. A pleasure to use.
