3rd Back up location for architecture firm
No Software needed
Easily recognized by all machines and platforms
- The 2T is a great capacity for this price and ease of use, however I wouldn't run it continuously for more than one or two weeks. I swap these out for taking our file server data offsite, so I only leave them connected for a specific length of time, then replace. Since I connect to a server, there is no shutdown ever during this two weeks. The unit gets hot, but so far I haven't had any problems with the data. I would use something more robust though if this is your only backup location (which it shouldn't be anyway). One thing that is a bit inconvenient, is that it doesn't overwrite when full. I reformat each swap out so that I don't have the chance of skipped files. I don't know if other externals have the option of rewriting, but that would be a convenient option.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk MAX External Hard Drive:
Replaced two external harddrives that I kept mirrored using Carbon Copy Cloner. Now my data integrity is automatic, using less drives, less power, less software services.
USB 2.0 is adequate for single user activity if used for music library or photo library. If intended for network multi-user access, or Video, then consider firewire version.

Looked like a great storage solution, so I purchased 8 units starting 10 months ago.
3 have had a harddrive failures in the last 3 months.
I highly recommend extended protection.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk MAX External Hard Drive:
The design runs true inside and out on this box. Versatility right out the box with a Big setting for 2TB or a Safe setting for double redundant four drive 1TB security and peace of mind. Even on the safe setting I've found not issue with speed of transfer, although I admit I've only used it for archive purposes. I would have rated it four stars except I've only had it a few weeks.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk MAX External Hard Drive:
I purchased this drive to attach to a PogoPlug. I use it as the storage to backup all the PCs in my house as well as hosting our entire MP3 and video collection.
Because the PogoPlug only has USB connections on it this drive was perfect as I didn't have to pay extra for connections I wasn't going to use.
Setup was a breeze. Just had to switch the drive to mirroring mode so that I would get a 1TB drive mirrored to make sure my files were safe.
It now resides in a closet with my other house network equipment and I don't ever have to think about it. That is the mark of a good device. The price was great considering the amount of storage.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk MAX External Hard Drive:
I'm using this external hard drive for all my DSLR digital photos. Easy to change the RAID configuration by clear directions included and pre-installed software to format the drive correctly for PC or Mac. My most dependable external drives have been from Lacie and you can't beat the price on this. Looks great and very quiet under operation. USB speed doesn't bother me as it transfers data very quickly from my desktop.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk MAX External Hard Drive:
I mostly use this hard drive for photo storage and backup. I've had nothing but great reviews for Lacie products, however this particular hard drive seems to be my favorite. It's essentially silent, extremely fast, and it certainly isn't an eyesore like many external hard drives. Based on my previous experience of Lacie drives, I assume it will be equally reliable. I've never had a failure or hiccup during a transfer. I don't have any complaints so far.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk MAX External Hard Drive:
I have a photography business and needed a large capacity hard dive. I bought this to use in Raid 1 for extra security. It comes set up for use Raid 0. I had to call LaCie service to get it running right. Two negatives about the hard drive are 1) that I had to wait 40 minutes or so to speak with a service rep. and 2) it comes with a short power cord & an extremely short UBS cord It's a nice clean design & fairly quiet. It also came with a free 1 year subscription to Carbonite, for backing up files online. So far it's doing what it's supposed to do.

I bought this hard drive for the RAID system for maximum security of my data. The 1GB available is more than enough for my needs and I now have the peace of mind that if one hard drive fails, I can always recover my data from the second one.

Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk MAX External Hard Drive:
Granted I have not had the drive very long (couple months maybe?) I LOVE this hard drive. The 2 TB capacity is amazing AND it has an expansion USB port which I have connected my other 1 TB drive to. I like the flexibility of Raid 1 or 0 and it's very easy to set up. This drive packs a lot of storage into a relatively small space and looks slick with it's all black enclosure. The blue light on the front looks cool at night too. I reccommend this to anyone looking for a lot of space for photos, music, video...
Comments about LaCie 2TB Hard Disk MAX External Hard Drive:
The set-up was a breeze on the MAC and has worked flawlessly since it was plugged in. Had another lacie from 2003 and it is still running smooth. Go figure.
