Need a camera that can keep up with someone (you?) who's active, daring, and/or an occasional risk-taker? Then check out the Olympus Stylus Tough-6000. This is one incredibly durable digital camera; it's shock, water, freeze, and crush proof - ummm, ok - resistant. Don't go driving your Hummer over it, or tossing it into liquid nitrogen. It's not quite that rugged but it sure can take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. Drop it, splash it, toss it - then pick it up and take a photo or make a movie. The Tough-6000 is ready, willing, and able to capture all those future memories and help you share them with friends and family. For sportsters indulging in the wintery and aquatic types of activities - listen-up -Tap Control is about to change your life. Playback, shadow adjustments, and flash mode can all be activated by simply tapping (tapping is not smashing) the top, sides, or back of the camera. No need to pull off the gloves, or fumble for a button - just bop it!
Shooting vistas or portraits? The Tough-6000 lets your creativity become a photographic reality. Your vision and intuition can finally come to fruition; whether it's a breathtaking scenic, or an intimate close-up. For those on-the-go shots we have two flavors of image stabilization: optical and digital. Use one or the other or both at the same time to keep those otherwise blurry photos sharp and clear.

Great Camera - with a couple limitations
This camera was purchased as JUST a fun camera. I wanted something that can go fishing, jetskiing, to the pool, and can survive the life of chasing a kid or two around.
This camera was purchased as JUST a fun camera. I wanted something that can go fishing, jetskiing, to the pool, and can survive the life of chasing a kid or two around.
What I like - easy to use, rugged, and good picture quality (AT LOW ISO).
What I don't like - noise at high ISO, boot-up time, and shutter lag. I am afraid that this camera won't be a good action camera, but we will see this summer.
My test images with it make me decently happy. I shot a macro-shot in "Super Macro" mode of a birdhouse in my backyard, and you can CLEARLY see every detail of the texture of the wood. The depth of field with this camera is very good as well.
Stop-action pictures are OK thus far in day-light. I have taken a handful of shots of my dog playing fetch, and I have no complaints beyond needing to learn the timing of the camera because of the shutter lag. There are a few tricks though, to keeping the camera pre-focused. The real test will come in intense sunlight on the water this summer.
This is a back-up to my dSLR, and I would NOT recommend it as a primary camera if you are at all serious about photography. However, that is not at all what I bought it for.

Pros:1. olympus is a front runner of underwater camera. It has made numerous generations of underwater cameras before others can even make one. Then I realized that if you use it in good light at ISO 50 the image quality is pretty decent.Cons:I really don't have too much enthusiasm to do a full test of this camera but this is what I found:1. flash is not enough on ISO 50. I will post some sample shots in [...]later.2. batter indicator is useless. It shows full all the time, and then jumped to low batter warning. 3. just so so battery life. I would recommend a back up battery4. support at most 2G of memory card5. In the scene mode ISO are not adjustable. which means that although you dont like the pic quality of ISO 800 you have no choice; and the camera automatically reduce the picture sizes in order to reduce noise associated with high ISO.6. ugly flash. (I have tried many other compact cameras and they were all doing better)

Lag time takes some getting used to. Handled great in the snow, haven't used it underwater yet.

I have old model Canon SD1000. In general in all aspects, but waterproofing, this Canon is better than the subject Olympus. From my point of view flash isn't powerfull enough or poorly calibrated. Face recognition doesn't focus on faces but on objects which arn't of my interest. Waterproof is OK. However if you don't have to use the camera underwater often - don't buy it. Get something else. Outside pictures under the sun are OK. However it's not fast enough.

I am using camera in the Philippines for diving and snorkeling. It works great. I used a Canon Pixma/Elph previously with an underwater case and I always had problems focusing while still moving underwater. This camera seems to correct my movement underwater. The only downside, is the size is a little too flat because I have big hands sometimes awkward to hold onto and press shutter release underwater.
