I primarily shoot with a Nikon 300, and I am having a great time with this little point-n-shoot Olympus. Brought the camera sailing for a week in the Bahamas... no worries about the camera getting banged around the boat while underway. What fun to simply grab the camera, jump in the salt water, and snap underwater photos while snorkeling... no waterproof housings to mess with. Also great while kayaking. Camera worked fantastic while taking photos in the pouring rain in Amsterdam. Great fun in the pool!! Quick, sturdy, and durable. My suggestions for improvements would be to add RAW file capability (only jpeg format), and faster time between shots (ok, ok, ok... I am spoiled with my Nikon DSLR speed). Camera also small enough to take around almost anywhere (verses the DSLR "project" to drag around). If you will be using the camera in water, be sure to buy the Olympus floating strap.

I bought the Olympus Tough 8000 about 2 weeks ago for a point in shoot to have while at the beach on a cruise. I took it snorkeling and took some decent pictures and also used it just out and about. One evening during dinner I took some pictures. The next day I turned it on just after putting it in the water and the camera lense opened but the camera would not boot itself up. I brought it to land and that evening tried everything to resurrect it to no avail as it was dead.It seems some water must have gotten inside the camera despite being extremely careful about the seals, always rinsing the camera off in fresh water, and not taking it deeper than 10 feet even though this model is rated to 33 feet. The only thing I did not do (not in the manual either) was to open up the camera after each use, remove the battery and media card, and let the camera air-dry. Perhaps condensation built up over time and it needed to dry.BHPhotovideo is going to exchange the camera and gave me no problem - a great company. I just hope the 300+ pictures I took on the memory card will be ok once I get a camera I can hook up to my computer with.If I take this camera underwater again for anything other than a brief dunk, I'll buy a waterproof housing for it.It worked just fine in low light contrary to some reviews I read. It isn't my Nikon D70 SLR with a big flash, but it works ok.I recommend the camera but consider it extremely water resistant and not waterproof as it is advertised.

We purchased this camera for our honeymoon in Jamaica and loved using it all week. We used it snorkeling, in the pool, during day, morning and night, indoors and out, and it was fantastic. The pictures were generally crisp and smooth- we had a lot of fun changing the settings in order to see how the pictures would turn out. We ended up with some that National Geographic would be happy to publish, I''m sure. The underwater picture modes worked extremely well, and the camera is easy to clean. The only thing I would like better is a larger zoom. The panorama mode is easy to use, and the rest of the modes worked similarly well. the only thing I wish you could do is take better night shots or dusk shots- the auto mode tends to blur these a bit. We have also taken it skiing, and it has endured some pretty serious drunken fun. The battery lasts a pretty long time, even with my wife leaving it on forever.

Recently got back from a trip to Mexico where my husband and I took this camera snorkeling and SCUBA diving. Though rated to 10 meters, we dove as far as 40 feet without any problems! One scary moment where I though water *might* have been leaking into the LCD, but the camera remained functional and upon surfacing there was no water in the LCD....maybe just the extra pressure? Worked very well underwater, at the pool, and on the beach. Lovely to take a vacation and not worry about getting my camera wet! The ability to zoom underwater was especially handy!
For those who want a compact camera and don't care about the underwater ability, I think that some of the photo quality could be a hair better....which is why I'm only giving 4 stars. But if you want something that goes underwater, in the sand, and can stand a drop or two I'd give this a five! I wish there were some more manual controls, but I'm hoping with a little more practice I'll be able to work some of that out.

Firstly, great service.
I purchased this camera with an underwater housing due to it's compact nature and on recommendations from others. I already have a larger underwater set up with a strobe which was too big for everday use. I am very happy with the camera and housing.

This product is very easy to use. I read the manual (10 mins) and was off and going. Although, the buttons and camera tell you all you need to know.
Its durable, withstands harsh conditions, worked great under the water. I used it for sking and used the snow-scn and they came out awesome. Night scn settings were also great. I used different MACROS and unbelievable!
I also love I can use a MICRO-SD card. I added 8GB and have room for video capture and pictures.
Not so great, is the battery life when taking video, but thats minor compared to what the camera can do and that's top be expected. Buy a back up battery.
AMAZING CAMERA!!!!!!

So far I really like this camera, I have tested it underwater and it still works. I have yet to drop it and see how well that works...I'm not going to intentionally do that. It has a fast response time when I push the button to take a picture it takes maybe 1 second. The anti-blur function works great I don't have to try and steady my arm against something to get a clear picture, I have taken about 100 pics so far and maybe had 3 blurry ones. So far this camera is definitely something that I would suggest to others.

I used this product during a 2 week vacation in Hawaii. We snorkeled several times and I used this camera at a depth of 15 ft during snuba diving. It performs great. Pictures turned out great. The tap operation feature was great too! The only negatives are that the flash is not very bright and the lag time is a little too long. But, it is a point and shoot. I would buy this camera again.

The camera is awesome! I used it skiing and after I got the hang of it, I didn't have to take my gloves off to take a picture. The only thing that bothered me is that is requires a different memory card than most digital cameras.

I bought this camera as a backup for a whale-watching excursion, because I didn't want to let the whales put my Nikon 300S underwater. I was thrilled with the quality of the photos, and my ease of mind while being showered by ocean water. The two features I would like to see added would be the ability to zoom while in video mode, and a separate battery charger. I plan on making it my first choice as a beach camera this summer. The lag time is annoying to someone used to the responsiveness of a DSLR, but a worthwhile tradeoff.

Tried the camera out only a couple of times so far, it does not work very well in low light, or back light situations. but then I've not had time to explore all the settings. it does work under water, however it's difficult to get the salt water residue off, a 10 minute soak in fresh water does not quite do it. need some type of cloth, etc. to clean film lens.

Have yet to test the limits of this camera, but from what I have used it so far it is excellent. Takes great photos in normal use. Love the tap controls, they make it very easy to quickly change flash settings or review pictures without having to find the button.
Bought with 2GB memory card and extra battery. Would recommend doing the same so you never lose battery life when you want to catch that one last photo.

This is an early review, but I used it up North last weekend in sub-zero temps and it worked great! Though when we brought it inside the cabin, it took fuzzy pictures and would not adjust correctly. This could partly be my own fault; I enjoy just throwing the camera on Auto and taking pictures, especially when you want to catch something in a hurry. The Canon that I had before was better at this, but it broke. The durability of this seems very solid which I am very happy about.

Got this for my boyfriend for Christmas and he loves it. He's already taken it ice climbing, banged it around, and overnighted with it in really cold temperatures and so far so good. Haven't tried it under water yet. It's a little heavier, but probably needs to be to make it so tough.

I have used the camera on hikes, in the ocean, and while cave crawling since I purchased it a few weeks ago. I dropped it on a bus and took it under the water, and I plan to take it snowboarding with me next weekend. It has continued to work perfectly, taking excellent high quality photos and videos the entire time. I love all of the features, especially the panoramic and multi-shot options. I recommend this camera to anybody who wants to live an active lifestyle and remember all of your favorite moments.

I brought this camera with me to Belize less than one week after purchasing it. I wanted something that would hold up in the tropical rain forest and on the ocean. This little camera was amazing! I took pictures in rain, mist, sea-spray and on clear days ... and all came out exceedingly well. It is very easy to use, takes great pictures and offers a variety of different settings for different situations. These settings actually make a difference, which I found out when taking pictures at night. I didn't actually get to use it underwater but I am looking forward to that on my next trip. I am thrilled with this purchase!

good product, i tested its waterproof capabilities and it works well. the bright display and super bright flash works great under water. the bright flash, however, burns an indoor picture - it's just too bright even if the subject is 10ft away. it would be great to have control for shutter speeds to help with the lighting.
i have no intention of testing the shock resist by dropping so no comment about durability.
good selection for shooting modes. panorama sometimes omits a portion of the shot esp. when lines are vertical and color almost the same. slow to focus, focus is bad in a dark room without flash
i will take this to my next snowboarding trip, snorkeling in one of Palawan's islands and to AT next summer. Great camera but it is not worth it if its use is limited indoors.
