Designed for hunters by a company full of hunters, Bushnell's 10x42 Legend HD Binocular proves once again that Bushnell is never a company to sit upon their laurels. The Legends have long been regarded as a great hunter or birder's value, and the 2009 updates offer serious advantages over the prior generations. Bushnell has increased the field of view with just a tiny decrease in eye relief, and that extra field surrounds your peripheral vision within the binocular.
The Legend HD Ultra's objective lenses now feature extra-low dispersion glass, which aims to eliminate chromatic aberration. Other improvements include a facelift to the housing armor, magnesium construction to shave precious amounts of weight, and new anti-reflective internal lens coatings to maximize overall color rendition.
The 10x42 model provides increased magnification and subject size in a standard weight for enthusiastic birders, making for a great all-around hunting and sporting unit for those that prefer the bolder view from a 10x optic (which always presents a less stable image than an 8x unit). This roof prism design offers a streamlined shape for better handling for most average-to-smaller hand.

I loved the included carrying harness. I like the Locking diopter ring. The center focus dial ONLY needs a slight adjustment to bring objects into (or out of) focus. These will gather enough light to make out objects up to 30 mins after sunset. I feel that these bino are an excellent value, however I would spend the extra dollars and get the Nikon Monarch ATB. I wished I had been able to compare them side by side before I had made the purchase.

I used these for birding on an overcast day and, as advertised, they are very bright and sharp. I especially like the harness that is included that makes wearing these binoculars confortable for several hours. I would recommend these for any avid birder.

I recently recieved a pair of Legend Ultra Hd binocs and took them for a week long hunting trip in west Texas. The weather was cold, windy and rainy and these binocs really shined. They were fantastic in dark rainy conditions. No problems at all. The images produced with legend were so clear and crisp it was really unbelievable. I have a bushnell Elite 4200 6-24 rifle scope that has an earlier version of rainguard coatings, so my expectations for these binoculars was high to begin with. The Legend Ultra HD binoculars easily surpassed those expectations. Others in my hunting party had optics costing 2-3 times more. They were asking to use my binocs when visibility was at its lowest! Nice job bushnell!!

Everything I was "looking" for... poor design on the lens covers and a little heavy compared to other models in the same price range... but that is why the clarity is probably better than the others.

I bought the Bushnell 10x42 Legend Ultra HD for a safari. It has a very sharp image and I was amazed at how bright it is - I could clearly see animals hidden in bushes without a problem. The Legend is compact, fits easily in a bag, works well with glasses and all this at a wonderful price. The only thing I wish it had were markers on the diopter adjustment ring...it'd make life a lot easier when there's more than one person using it.

These are my first higher end binoculars and are exceptionally impressive. The color is fantastic and they are extremely sharp. The size isn't bad either. Build could be a littler sturdier I suppose but then they'd be heavier.

Great Value, Great Binoculars at the price point. The lens covers are the weakest part. I would like it if the case was a little smaller. Overall very pleased.

I used these for everything from sporting events to animal spotting. They are not the strongest binoculars but there are in a perfect range. The view is sharp and bright and they are reasonable priced.

Comments about Bushnell 10x42 Legend Ultra HD Binocular (Black):
I have looked at much higher priced glasses and I can see no benefits over the Legend HD. I am a very serious birder, and I am seeing details that I never thought possible. The Rainguard is fantastic. The shoulder strap is very compfortable. The locking diopter and rotating eye cup mechanisms are much better than the new bushnell Elite hd. This is truly an awesome pair of binoculars.

Comments about Bushnell 10x42 Legend Ultra HD Binocular (Black):
I take classes of students to the tropics and I've always had a good camera and not-so-good binoculars. I finally broke down and looked into a decent pair of binocs. A lot of online and print reviews that I read recommended these as the best for the money and I agree. I've tried the much more expensive Swarovskis and these are comparable (I would say just as good) for a tenth of the cost. It seems to me that binoculars and a good Cabernet have this in common; above about 300 bucks the differences cannot be perceived by the average human (and with wine that low end is probably inflated) :)
These binoculars perform very well in low light and are very ruggedly built. They are not what you would call lightweight, and they do require a steady hand, but these are things that I was aware of and are a reasonable sacrifice for the performance gain. The close focus isn't bad at about 2.5 meters, and they come with a good harness and a sturdy case. I'm very happy with them.

Exceptionally bright image and great contrast with a very wide angle of vision. They are light, well built and seams robust. Very clear optics with no distortion from near to far.I would highly recommend these to anyone looking for a quality mid-priced binocular.

I frequently bring student groups to the tropical rainforest and have been extremely pleased with the way this binocular holds up in rough conditions. I recently bought my second pair because of its excellent optics (even in low light conditions) and durability.
