I use this on a G lens/HXR-NX5U HD camcorder. I come from the BetaCam era and used a $18,000 Fujinon 4.8x10 BEVM superwide zoom lens on my D-30, switching to a normal lens when needed. Over the years prior to having a superwide zoom, I used a few different wide-adapters, most common the Fujinon CV80. The Sony VCLHG0872K is better than any adapter I have used. It is, I think, every bit as good as my 4.8x10 Fujinon. The first test I made was shooting into the sun on a hand-held walking shot. Only a supermulticoated high end lens will do. No chromatic aberration, no interior reflections. Just the lens flare you'd expect, pointed at the setting sun, on a prime lens, or top-end BEVM Fujinon. Add to that the resolution and color saturation of NXCAM HD and you would see a smile on my face. Highly recommended. Duly noted is the fact that the adapter adds front weight to an already front heavy camera, especially when hand-held. My solution to this problem is a custom made shoulder mount with a behind the shoulder counter-weight (Domke belt pouch with spare batteries, wireless receivers, or just a carton of 1/4-20 steel bolts) combined with a custom 3x loupe on the LCD/viewfinder. This gives me a similar feel and balance of the D-30/PVV3 shoulder mount camera. This rig has a pistol grip with a Varizoom VZ Rock LANC controller-- comparable to the Peter Lisand Adjustagrip/Fujinon SRD setup I had on the D-30. Combine this with the wide-angle Steadyshot on the NX5U and you have a virtual Steadicam. My reputation is built on hand-held ability. This lens/camera combination is a great addition.

The ability to record a wider angle with minimum distortion in small rooms or in weddings is awesome. It definitely adds weight to the front end of the camcorder, so your arm won't "thank" to you for that if you'll shoot without a tripod for a longer time. But the good thing is that this lens kit can be very easily dismounted when not needed and then mounted again when your arm got a rest... The lens fitted my NX5 perfectly and should fit any other 20x "G" lenses from Sony. And ohh yes! Such a large lens with the eyebrow and lens shade will make you camera look soooo impressive. [...] and with the lens kit there were a nice carying bag that also protects the lens.

I love the image this lens creates - it is distortion free and allows 100% zoom through.
The 1 negative is the weight. I do a fair amount of hand held work or use a mono-pod; this lens is really too heavy to use without a tripod.

The wide conversion lens kit gave me exactly what I was looking for. A little wider field of view makes a huge difference in my opinion. Not to mention it is completely zoom through. It definitely adds weight to the front end of the camera, but is well worth it to me. The large lens with the eyebrow and lens shade will make you camera look impressive!! Kinda pricey but I am very happy with the kit!!! Also comes with a nice sony case for storing.

I use the wide angle adapter on indie films. it is simple to attach and french flag on the lens shade is a plus.Cost seems to be reasonable for other brand name mat boxes (only) cost about $1k.This kit fits my FX1000 and should fit any of the 20x "G" lenses from Sony.

This lens adapter works great to add about 10 to 20% more image to your picture. The quality is very good and easy to use. At first you can't really notice the difference but then as you compose for shots and add or remove the lens you can clearly see what is being added to the picture by using the lens. Have not shot with many long tall objects going from top to bottom of the screen to see if there is any significant distortion, but what we have seen so far is that the image looks sharp.
