Transform your laptop into a formidable mixing and mastering machine with the UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop DSP Accelerator Card from Universal Audio. It brings all of the raw power of SHARC DSP acceleration hardware to your laptop's ExpressCard slot, and puts Universal Audio's award-winning Powered Plug-Ins at your fingertips. It's like having racks of vintage compressors and EQs, lush reverbs, and top-notch channel strips in a piece of hardware that fits in your shirt pocket.
The UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop offers a dramatic improvement over its predecessor by providing an additional 2 1/2 times the processing power in an ultra-compact mobile form factor. Another improvement is the Version 5 software for managing and monitoring the card. It features driver enhancements that utilize multi-core computers, a meter that monitors activity on the cores, and a system that balances the load on the processors.
"Analog Classics" is a new software bundle included with the UAD-2 Solo, a collection of the company's best-selling and most-popular plug-ins that truly captures the quality of their analog hardware emulations, and brings classic "analog" sound to the digital domain. The Pultec EQ and the RealVerb Pro Room Modeler have always been included with the card.
But now, two classics that were previously only available for purchase, have been added. The LA-2A Classic Audio Leveler is an emulation of the revered, electro-optical, analog compressor, while the 1176LN Classic Limiting Amplifier is the most accurate emulation of UA's legendary, FET-based, hardware classic. Also part of the bundle is the 1176SE Limiting Amplifier, a DSP-optimized version of the 1176LN, yielding higher instance counts with its own unique characteristics.
An included voucher allows the user to purchase from Universal Audio (via the Internet) further plug-ins of their choice. Additionally, the UAD-2 Solo/Laptop supports the use of other manufacturers' Audio Units, RTAS or VST plug-ins when using the appropriate host software.
Note! To obtain the LA-2A and 1176LN plug-ins, the purchaser needs to register their card. The plug-ins will then be automatically added to their my.uaudio.com account and available for immediate download and use.

Comments about Universal Audio UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop DSP Accelerator Card:
I got this UAD-2 Laptop card for just [$]!!! So far I'm only unsing the free included plug-ins but even those are pretty good. I use it mainaly for mastering with Wavelab. The installation was pretty painless, only the authorisation didn't work the first time probably because the uaudio website was down.

Comments about Universal Audio UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop DSP Accelerator Card:
These UAD solo cards bring a lot to the table. Comes with the best in class compressors and EQ's that are out on the plugin market. Yes some you have to buy post sale, but with out a doubt some are a no brainer to me. LIke the Pultec-Pro, Fairchild Comp, etc.
Only thing not so great is I can't afford the big computer with a quad core UAD 2, but then this solo laptop is compact, with so far awesome drivers and just what I needed for processing power vs plugins that it can run.

Comments about Universal Audio UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop DSP Accelerator Card:
I used a diverse selection of plugins for my last track and mix project - Waves, PSP, Soundtoys, Abbey Road, etc. All good stuff. But as can be the case with computers, memory and processor requirements sometimes made it difficult to obtain what I was looking for.
So I researched heavily and came upon the Universal Audio UAD-2 SOLO/Laptop DSP, and since purchasing through B&H, I've been very happy with its impressive sound quality as well as the assistance lent to my laptop for essential tools like compression, EQ and reverb,
Out of the box, you have activated plugs for their very nice 1176LN and a Pultec strip. A $50 voucher is included for use through their online store - and they have a fantastic array of plugin simulations for Neve, EMT, Roland, Studer and LittleLabs hardware. Great great stuff.
Installation is super simple for the card - just download the updated installer off their support page, run it, then plug the card into the Expresscard slot on your laptop. The installer comes with an authorization routine that will unlock your included plugins and then you can start using them right away.
They make a huge difference in quality with regards to both compression and EQ, and the tape simulations have a very musical quality that is lacking in some other sims on the market.
I only wish the card option included dual and quad processor choices, instead of the single DSP option. Once can certainly hit its limits on large track projects. However, for laptop recording, this is the best game in town. HIGHLY recommended.

UAD2 Laptop solo simply rocks! The sound quality of the plug ins is industry quality and it will help you sound better straight out of the box. Great 14 day free preview of all the plug ins upon your activating them. I can think of anything that I don't like about them.
