The ProTrack Mobile Recording Kit from Alesis is a handy mobile recording system designed for use with your iPod. The kit includes a ProTrack handheld recorder, which records stereo audio directly to your iPod. It also includes a pair of AM2 condenser mics and accessories.
The ProTrack has integrated stereo microphones to capture clean, clear sound to your iPod. It also has level controls, and an LED level meter for monitoring input volume. The AM2 microphones have a cardioid pickup pattern for off-axis rejection, and offer a switchable -10dB pad and a high-pass filter. They are powered by 48V phantom power, which is supplied by the ProTrack. Accessories include a tripod stand for the ProTrack, and windscreens, clips, a stereo mount, and a carrying case for the mics.

Comments about Alesis ProTrack Mobile Recording Kit for iPod:
After ordering the Alesis ProTrack Mobile Recording Kit for iPod -- and briefly testing it out -- I have to report that I returned it for a refund. The reason for that action is that while I like the ProTrack Mobile Recording Unit itself, I found the performance of the Alesis condenser mics in the recording kit to be below what I wanted. Specifically, I found lots of problems with pops and clicks, whereas when I used the base ProTrack Recording device itself with some Shure SM58's, the performance was outstanding.
Bottom line advice would be to skip the kit, order the Alesis ProTrack for iPod device separately and then get your own external microphones that will work with it (Shure SM 58's are great).

I plugged in my Ipod Classic and it all worked perfectly. The kit is a great value too. The Mics are decent and allow you to record without any ipod hard-drive noise.
